DPIE Afterschool Enrichment Classes BollyWood Dance Class for Kids Tuesday - 2:05 - 3:05 PM Tuition: $195 Instructor: Professional Dance Instructors from BollyNaach Dance Company Course Description: A fun-filled introduction to beginner & intermediate Bollywood dance for kids. Instruction includes foundational movements, fundamental techniques, hand gestures, rhythmic patterns & communicative expressions. Students will learn dance routines choreographed to snippets of popular Bollywood songs as well as some Koliwood and Tollywood songs from the South Indian cinema. The classes will also strengthen individual coordination and rhythmic skills through various exercises and drills. Additionally, students will develop a vocabulary of common Bollywood dance moves that they can string together to create their own unique dance. This class will provide exposure to kids on many different dance styles, as Bollywood has become a melting pot of many popular traditional and western dance styles. Dougherty Drama CampTime: Thursday -3:05-4:05 PM Tuition: $185 Instructor: Ms. Carissa LaGasca, Dougherty Teacher Course Description: Calling all actors! This class will be a fun experience for students in grades 1 – 3. They will have a chance to gain self-confidence and develop their presentation & speaking skills as they prepare and perform a Reader’s Theater production. During each class, students will participate in a variety of Drama Camp games that will develop different performance techniques such as vocal dynamics, body language & mannerisms as well as use of space and improvisation. Students will be assigned parts and create costumes and scenery in preparation for an end of class performance for parents! Here is your chance to become a STAR! Life Science In The Garden -The Power Of Water Thursday- 3:05 - 4:05 PM Tuition: $185 Instructor: Mr. John Price, Dougherty Teacher Course Description: Embrace your inner engineer and help Dougherty build its first water feature in the garden. Students will be analyzing our sources of water and how we can use it to our advantage. The water feature will help create a feel of a natural environment and attract more kinds of wildlife to the garden. We are looking for students who can think critically and creatively. Students will get the opportunity to collaborate, design and construct a feature that captures water and cycles it back into the garden. Proper tool usage and tool safety will also be covered. Magic Tree House Book Club Thursday- 3:05 - 4:05 PM Tuition: $185 Instructor: Mrs. Jackie Beeson, Dougherty Teacher Course Description: Does your child love the Magic Tree House series? Join this fun book club to dive deeper into the popular series by Mary Pope Osborne. Jack and Annie, the intrepid brother and sister team who are the main characters in every story, are magically transported to interesting historical places and events. Once there, they learn facts about their destination while trying to complete the tasks assigned them by Morgan, the magical librarian of Camelot. In this club we will have fun exploring the series while your child gains valuable comprehension strategies, increased vocabulary and group discussion skills. Magic Tree House: Adventures with Jack and Annie are perfect for readers who are just beginning chapter books. Explore the magic with Mrs. Beeson!

Readers Book Club Thursday- 3:05 - 4:05 PM Tuition: $185 Instructor: Ms. Lina Barakat, Dougherty Teacher Course Description: Students will read a chosen novel, using a reader’s workshop model to enhance their reading comprehension abilities to encourage higher level collaborative reading strategies through a mini lesson format. Students will rotate through different roles, working together to engage in various texts. Later, students will adapt the novel into a play they can perform as a culminating project. Students will also be given roles in a book club, which allow them to practice communication and public speaking skills, participating in interactive group discussions. Sharkology : Thursday- 3:05 - 4:05 PM Tuition: $185 Instructor: Jennifer Crothers, Dougherty Teacher Course Description: In this course, students will dive into the oceanic world where a new animal is at the top of the food chain - sharks. Mrs. Crothers will open your eyes to a new world; filled with the most fascinating animals on Earth. Using multi-media, we will plunge into the sharks sophisticated functional anatomy of swimming, breathing, and eating. Explore their brains and behavior. Nosedive into their ecological role in the health of the ocean, and grasp the importance of conservation efforts. Learn more about Ms. Crothers’ & Ms. Lattau’s 5 day boat adventure to Guadalupe Island where they learned about and came face to face with Great White Sharks. The boat they were on, The Horizon, and some of the crew have been featured on the TV series, Shark Week. Come to the shark side, it is going to be JAWSOME! Friday - 3:05 - 4:30 PM Tuition: $195 Instructor: Professional Actors from the Kenn Adams’ Adventure Theater Company Course Description: It’s laughter, learning and limelight with the After School Drama Club’s The Actor’s Workshop! Through a fun series of theater games, acting exercises and scripted scene work, this introductory acting class teaches the fundamentals of the actor’s craft. Students explore the “three tools of the actor” – voice, body and imagination – as they learn how to create characters, interpret scripts and perform for an audience. The class teaches true theater skills such as stagecraft, emotionally truthful acting, and professional theater etiquette, while encouraging creativity and inspiring the imagination. The class culminates with a free workshop presentation of scenes and monologues for an invited audience.
