Bridgewater, which was originally chartered in April of 1749, was one of New Jersey's original 104 townships. What is very interesting is that Bridgewater Township could have covered more square mileage. In 1806, parts of Bridgewater Township were actually removed to form what is now Warren Township, NJ.
