Tales of the grim sleeperAn aerial shot has been used in the following image. This is a still from a clip where it shows the police finding one of the bodies from one of the murders. This can be interesting for the audience because it shows a real life moment, this creates a realism factor for the audience to think about. I believe an aerial shot taken from a real life event is very useful in documentaries but I will not use it in my documentary because it is hard to replicate at a good quality level.

Tales of the grim sleeper• Direct address is used throughout this documentary. Direct address is

when the person on screen is talking directly to the camera about an event. This technique allows the audience to feel more included in the documentary as the person being filmed is talking to them. If I was to use this in my documentary I would like to include a caption of the interviewee to make it more understandable to the audience and allow them to create an idea of characters.

Tales of the grim sleeper• In this shot taken from the grim sleeper, it shows a high angle looking

down onto events. It is also taken from a CCTV camera, as you can tell from the quality and the date and time in the bottom corner. This creates the reality effect of the situation at hand. It is also good hard evidence for the case. This is a shot that I really like and I think that I will include it in my documentary.

Ross Kemp On Gangs• The picture shown is one of the establishing shot of one of the

episodes of Ross Kemp on gangs. The opening scene shows Los Angeles. Los Angeles is known as the gang capital of the world because of how many gangs are situated there. The shot shows the whole city, this makes the audience aware that there are gangs over the whole of Los Angeles. As the lighting in this shot is quite dark as the sun sets, it helps create a tense mood and the idea of danger for the audience.

Ross Kemp On Gangs• Here Kemp uses direct address to talk about a gang that he is just

about to go and visit. In it he stresses the dangers that he is going to come under from being around them, and as he is talking and looking right into the camera it allows the audience watching the documentary to feel and understand the danger of the situation. This is a technique that I will want to include in my documentary as it creates the audience interaction that I want my audience to feel.

Ross Kemp On Gangs• This over the shoulder shot is creating the sense of power from the

individual. Not only is the label “sheriff” shown on his back, but the camera man is following close behind him. This has started the idea that he has authority even to the camera crew as they are the ones following him and not having them lead the way. This is an aspect that I may decide to incorporate into my documentary if I want to create authority within in it, if I do use it, it will probably be with a member of the emergency services, such as a police officer.
