ANNOTATION FORMAT

The annotation format in the following pagespresents concise, pertinent information on edu-cational materials in Spanish and Portuguesethat the Materials Acquisition Project has col-lected for its resource library. Among te itemsof information in each annotation are subjectclassification, bibliographic data, .content,physical characteristics, ordering instructions,and price.

All materials are assigned Dewey decimal clas-sification numbers and subjects. Alternate sub-jects are also assigned in appropriate cases.

Below the subject line is listed the main en-try, which customarily comprises the call numberand the author. If more than one author producedthe piece of material, the name of the first au-thor mentioned in the material is listed in themain entry. If no author is indicated, the com-piler, editor, illustrator, translator, or titlemay be listed in the main entry.

Beneath the main entry is the imprint, whici.includes the title, co-authors, compiler, edi-tor, illustrator, translator, and edition. Nextis the collation, which contains: the number ofpages, books, or volumes; kinds of illustrations;academic level; series (in parentheses); bibli-ography and glossary.

The body of the annotation describes in detailthe content and physical characteristics of thematerial. In addition, it may suggest areas inwhich the material would be most useful.

Ordering instructions are located in the lowerleft-hand corner. They are coded to correspondto the U.S. distributors found on the front pageof the publication.

Approximate prices appear at the lower right-hand corner. These prices are subject to change,and they may be increased by handling and mail-ing charges, especially if the distributor mustobtain the material from either Portugal or

Spain.

NOTE: It is recommended that materials be or-dered either from a distributor indicated on theannotations of the materials desired, or from adistributor located in one's geographical area.
