Part III. What Can Comic Book Club Do For You?1. Which of the following activities would you most like to participate in? Rank

them from 1 to 6 (1 being the activity you would most enjoy, 6 being the activity that would make you want to quit comic book club)

Activity RankingCreate Your Own Characters WorkshopThis is exactly what it sounds like. We will spend time creating our own characters. We will begin by researching the elements of good characters (i.e. background story, impact on values, and…super powers!!! ). We will also look at different artistic techniques. Work in pairs (writers/artists) or work alone (you do it all!).

Fan Faction! Create Your Own Comics Workshop...This is also exactly what it sounds like….but keep reading anyway. We will use existing characters to write “fan fiction.” You will create entirely new storylines for your favorite characters. We will begin by researching existing storylines to develop a good understanding of the characters and their history. We then use that knowledge to write and draw our own comics.

The Great Comic DebateWho is the better speedster – Flash or Quicksilver? Who would win in a fight – Hulk or Superman? Who is smarter – Tony Stark or Bruce Wayne? Which is better – Marvel or DC? Who is more evil – the Red Skull or Apocalypse?….We will spend time choosing a side, conducting research and then debating important topics such as the ones listed above and many, many, many more! Each week we will have a couple of new debates.

Book GroupsWant to teach people about your favorite comic book? Want to discuss your favorite title with a few people who love the same book? If you answered “no” then this activity is not for you. …But if you answered “yes”, you will probably enjoy this activity. Each week you and a small group will discuss a title that you all agree upon.

Exploring Universes and MythologiesDid you know that Spiderman has countless clones? Did you know that Bane once broke Batman’s spine? If you want to learn more about a particular comic book character, then you will enjoy this activity. We will spend a couple of weeks exploring different characters like Spiderman, Batman, the Avengers, or whoever else you’d like to learn more about. After selecting a character/team, we will explore important story arcs and look at different ways the character(s) have been portrayed.

Comic v. FilmComic book characters make for really great movies (….sometimes). We will watch movies based on comic book story lines (i.e. Days of Future Past, TMNT) and compare them to the original comic book story lines. We will discuss why changes were made between the two versions and discuss which does a better job at telling a story.
