THE PROPOSAL of Technical Specification
Title of proposal:"Dimensions of special product of residential area manhole cover, of round opening, of cast iron construction, size DN.615mm or 24.30in (D.615/620), and up to 125 kN loading class."Material: - cast iron - of grade to fit the loading class in compliance with thicknesses of pieces.
The document proposal comes to settle up a dimensional based normative document (as case, a publication / deliverable) in the form of a technical product specification concerning the dimensions of special product of a residential area manhole cover - in order to complete with requirements of one or more regional basic standard(s) of cast/ductile iron manhole covers, - e.g. the regional CEN standard "EN124 - Gully tops and manhole tops for vehicular and pedestrian areas. Design requirements, type testing, marking, quality control", - or, with other basic standard concerning street, or residential area, manhole covers - as long as the basic standard (e.g. as the EN124 is) does not apply for dimensions of special products of manhole covers.
Thus, the proposed normative document (norm) aims to specify the main dimensions for a special product of a grey/ductile iron residential area manhole cover of rated dia DN.615mm / 24.30in round opening; - and must, as case may be, completed with other standards which refers to testing, marking, quality control. (e.g. the EN124 CEN standard).
Short description of design related to product and main dimensions:
= Square frame (at top side) with round opening;
- overall dia. of lid piece: 615/616mm (~24.25in),
- top opening of frame: dia. 620mm (24.4in), - round,
- top length of frame: 725mm, (~28.5in), square
- lower opening of base of frame:
> round base frame, (with square top side), - dia. 795, - over the flange,
to fit a 800mm dia. of round manhole top opening (entry).
> square frame (at base and top), 725x725 or 767x767mm,
to fit a 700x700mm (~28x28in) or a 750x750mm (~30x30in) square manhole top entry.
- clearance (clear opening) of frame, - about 575mm (~22.63in),
- a key hole of about 1...1.25sq.cm. clear opening which allows an easy opening using common tools,
- optional, on designs of lid and frame - a hinge or locking system may be added.
The product which the subject of standardization consists in, may be useful for outdoor networks - water supply, as well sewerage or storm water manholes, - in residential areas.
The type of public standardization document, considering the proposal may later transform into:
> concerning the terminology of EN45020:2006 description: - prestandard (3.3), technical specification (3.4), - in order to complete with CEN standard EN124, which is a basic standard (5.1).
> concerning the terminology of ISO/CEI-2:2004: - technical specification (3.4), technical report (3.5), publicly available specification (3.7).
