2 Product outline

The VAC-5000HD is an HDMI distribution amplifier for distributing digital video and audio signals to 5 outputs.

Since signals can be distributed to multiple devices that have the HDMI input connector, the VAC can be used

for multiple systems of HD images, production lines, and others. An L/R stereo audio output is provided, and

only the embedded digital audio input is converted into an analog stereo signal for the stereo analog audio

outputs. The HDMI input has an automatic compensation circuit while the HDMI output has a manual one,

and they are able to minimize signal degradation caused by cable extension.

3 Features

Video and audio signals input from the source device can be distributed to multiple sink devices. Audio can be

output as digital or analog signals.

■ Video

● Max. resolution: QWXGA (RB)*1, 1080p

● Digital cable compensation circuit Input and Output: Max.10 m/32.8 feet to 50 m/164.04 feet

● Anti-snow*2

■ Audio

● Analog audio conversion output

■ Others

● EDID emulation (with copy)

● DDC buffering

● HDCP

● Displaying statues of Input/Output signals

● Connection reset*3

*1 Only Reduced Blanking is supported.

*2 The anti-snow feature automatically fixes snow noise that is a specific symptom of HDCP-compliant

signals and mainly occurs at start-up. This feature does not work when snow noise has already occurred

during startup or when it occurs due to a bad condition of the transmission line.

*3 For digital systems, some problems, such as an HDCP authentication error, can often be recovered by

physically disconnecting and reconnecting the digital cables. However, the Connection Reset feature will fix

these problems automatically without the need to physically remove and insert the cables. It creates the

same condition as if the cable were physically disconnected and reconnected. This feature only works for

the VAC’s output. If other devices are connected between the VAC’s output and display device, this feature

may be invalid.

7.2.15 [F38] Setting CEC physical address copy of EDID

CEC: Pass through between IN and OUT1

The CEC physical address of the sink device that is connected to OUT1 into the EDID of IN. can be copied

If the CEC physical address of the connected sink device and the VAC’s address are not the same, the CEC

functions, such as input switching in the sink device at start-up, may not work correctly. The problem can be

solved by using the CEC physical address that is copied into the VAC.

Setting values

on: Copy physical address

oFF: Not copy physical address [Default]

Notes:

● This is enabled if CEC-supported source and sink devices are connected and one of 03 to 22 is selected

for resolution setting of EDID.

● CEC system link functions supported by other companies are not guaranteed to work correctly by this

setting. Check the actual configuration.

7.2.16 [F40] Setting input equalizer

If it is set to “00” (AUTO), automatic equalization is normally performed depending on the amount of input

signal attenuation. However, it may not be performed automatically in some PCs. In these cases, set the

amount of equalization manually according to the cable length.

Setting values

00: AUTO [Default]

01 to 25: Low to high

Notes:

● If you use a 5 m/16.4 feet or longer cable for input, we recommend that you check the configuration with

actual devices in advance, because it largely depends on the output signal quality of the source device.

● Set the equalizer value before using the VAC, since images sometimes are interrupted when the setting is

changed.

7.3.2 [C10] Setting how long video output requests of sink device are ignored

You can set how long signals for requesting video output that are sent from the sink device are ignored If

those signals are repeatedly sent from the sink device within a short cycle, the VAC tries to set the video

output every time. Video can be output correctly by setting this menu.

Setting values

oFF: No masking [Default]

02 to 15:2 to 15 [sec.]

Note: This setting applies to all outputs.

7.3.3 [C20 to C24] Setting forced HDMI output mode

In order to output signals, the VAC acquires EDID from the sink device to determine if the sink device is using

HDMI or DVI signals. If the sink device cannot do it for any reason, problems will occur (for example, audio

cannot be output). In such a case, use the forced HDMI mode to output signals.

Menu numbers

*1 xvYCC, Lip Sync, 3D, ARC, and HEC are not supported. CEC: Pass through between IN and OUT 1.

*2 Analog audio output only supports 2-channel linear PCM.

*3 The transmission distance depends on connected devices. The distance above is the maximum transmission distance when a cable

made by IDK (AWG24) is used and signals, 1080p 60 Hz 24bit/pixel (8bit/component), are input or output. If the connected device is

not matched to the VAC or if other makers' cables are used, video signals can be unstable or video signals cannot be output, even

though the transmission distance is within the information above.

*4 Anti-snow function automatically eliminates snowy noise that is a specific symptom of the signal having HDCP. This feature

automatically eliminates the snow noise causing mainly at start-up of the device. If the noise occurs in the input signals or if the noise is

caused by bad-quality signal transmission, this feature does not work.

*5 The connection reset feature automatically fixes problems that can normally be solved by removing and inserting connectors. Users do

not have to remove and insert connectors in order to utilize this feature. This feature works only for the VAC’s output. If other devices

are connected between the VAC’s output and display device, this feature may be invalid.

9 Troubleshooting

In case this device does not work correctly, please check the following items first.

Are this device and the connected devices turned on normally?

Are cables connected correctly?

Are there no loose connections?

Are cables that are appropriate to this device being used?

Are signal specifications of connected devices matched to each other?

Are settings of the sink device correct?

Are there any close objects that may cause noise?

If the problem still cannot be solved, check the items in the table below. Please refer to manuals of connected

devices as well, since they may possibly cause the problem.

Problem Check item

Video output

Video is not output. If there are no problems with cable connections, first check [1] and [2] below.

[1] Verify that the EDID resolution setting of the VAC is set to the

input resolution supported by the display device.

・The EDID resolution is set to 1080p by default, but some TVs do

not support that resolution.

・If the EDID resolution is set to 1080i, the video may not be output to

the display device that does not support the interlaced signals.

・Some monitors for PCs do not support the resolutions for TVs. Some

LCD TVs do not support PC resolutions (VGA to QWXGA).

[2] Verify that signals are output from the input device.

If the “SIGNAL” LED lights, check [3] to [6]; if the LED turns off, check

and [8].

[3] If signals protected by HDCP are input, does the sink device support

the HDCP? If the sink device does not support HDCP,

copyright-protected signals are not displayed.

Check whether the sink device supports the HDCP.

You can also disable HDCP output to the source device by an input

setting.

[4] If a long cable is connected for input or output, replace it with a 5

meter/16.4 feet or shorter cable. A 5 meter/16.4 feet or longer cable

can be connected for digital input/output for the VAC, but some

cables fail HDCP authorization or EDID acquisition depending on the

quality of the cable and connected devices.

[5] Verify that unsupported signals are not being input.

[6] Change the [C10] setting. Access this menu by changing [F99]

setting.

[7] Verify that No-signal input monitoring time ([F16]) is not too short.

[8] Check the video output setting of the source device.

Problem Check item

Interference or noise

appears on video.

If a long cable is connected for input or output, change the equalizer setting.

If a long cable is connected for input or output, replace it with a 5 m/16.4 feet

or shorter cable.

Even though a 5 m/16.4 feet cable can be connected since the VAC has

compensation circuit for digital input and output, it cannot deliver its full

performance depending on the cable quality and connected devices. If the

problem is solved by the replacement with a shorter cable, the signals may

have been deteriorated because of the long-distance transmission. IDK

provides high-quality cables, boosters, and cable extenders. Please contact

us as needed.

Transmission clock of Deep Color signals is faster than normal signals. If

poor-quality or long cable is connected at the time of signal input or output,

noise may appear on the video.

The color depth of input signals can be controlled in the EDID setting.

Video blinks. If interlace signals are input to a sink device that does not support interlace

signals, the video blinks. Check the supported resolution of the sink device.

Video edges

(up/down/right/left)

are cut out.

Some sink devices display input video in overscan, and the video may be cut

out. Check the display setting of the sink device.

Video is distorted

horizontally or

vertically.

Some sink devices display input video on full screen, and the aspect ratio

cannot be kept. Check the display setting of the sink device.

With some resolutions, full-screen display cannot be avoided. In that case,

change the output resolution of the source device.

Black bars appear on

PC images.

Only part of the PC

image is displayed,

and the rest of the

images is displayed

by moving the

mouse.

If the PC has the Panel Fit function, select “Scale Full Screen”.

If the resolution that is set for the PC and the resolution that is actually output

from the PC are not matched, those problems may occur. Check the

resolution of the PC and the EDID resolution setting.

The dual monitor

function cannot be

set or it is canceled

automatically.

When the No-signal input monitoring function works, the dual monitor function

may not be enabled correctly. In this case, turn off this monitoring function.

Problem Check item

Video is displayed,

but audio is not

output.

Verify that audio output is turned on.

If there are multiple output connectors in the source device, check the audio

output setting of the source device.

Verify that audio whose format is supported by the connected sink device is

input. Especially, LCD monitors may not output 88.2 kHz or higher linear PCM

and compressed audio (such as Dolby Digital and DTS).

In order to play a Blu-ray disc having compressed audio, check the audio

output setting of the source device.

You can also control audio signals that will be output from the source device

by setting EDID.

Verify that DVI signals are not being output from the source device.

Even though

multi-channel audio

is played, only audio

signals of 2 channels

are output.

For multiple channel play, change the EDID setting which is set to 2 channels

by default.

Audio is output from

HDMI output, but it is

not output from

analog audio output.

If compressed audio (such as Dolby Digital and DTS) is input, analog audio is

not output. Only 2-channel linear PCM is supported for analog audio output.

Audio is output from

analog audio output,

but it is not output

from HDMI output.

Verify that audio output is set to ON.

Verify that audio can be output by the connected sink device with the selected

resolution.

If an output resolution for PCs (VGA to QWXGA) is selected, the sink device

may not output audio.

Verify that the selected sampling frequency is supported by the connected

sink device.

Some LCD monitors cannot output high-sampling frequency audio

(88.2kHz or higher).

Audio signals output from the source device can be controlled by setting

EDID.

Compressed audio

(such as Dolby

Digital and DTS) is

not output from the

source device.

Inputting compressed audio is limited by the EDID setting(factory default). In

order to use compressed audio, change the EDID setting.

Check the audio output setting of the source device.

Devices cannot be

controlled by CEC.

If you use CEC, enable the HDMI link control function of devices to be

connected to the VAC, such as LCD TVs and Blu-ray disk recorders.

10 Fuse

The VAC is equipped with a glass tube-type fuse (5 × 20 mm/0.2 x 0.79”), which prevents overcurrent from

flowing into the VAC when a circuit or circuit part is broken.

If the VAC cannot be turned on, first check if the fuse placed in the AC inlet is blown or not. If it is blown,

replace the blown fuse with the spare fuse by following the procedure below.

1. Turn off the VAC and unplug the power supply plug.

2. Remove the power connector from the AC inlet

3. Remove the fuse holder by pulling out the depressed portion of the connection area for power

supply connector using a screw driver or the like.

[Figure 10.1] Fuse holder

4. Replace the current fuse with the spare fuse.
