CHAPTER 1

Allosaurus

By: Nate McDonald Allosaurus was a killing machine. It was a meat-eater who hunted in packs. It’s teeth were as sharp as steak knifes, and it had 50 of them. It ate other dinosaurs such as Stegosaurus and Iguanodons. Allosaurus had a gaping bite that could fit around the thickest body parts of its prey. Allosaurus had a head with small bony knobs and brow horns over each eye. It had a long tail and walked on 2 legs. It weighed 1 to 5 tons. Allosaurus was 10 feet tall at the hips and 40 feet long. On each hand it had 3 claws longer than 6 inches. The first complete skeleton of Allosaurus was found in Colorado in 1983. It lived in the late Jurassic period. Its name means “different lizard.” No matter what it was called, Allosaurus was a fierce predator!

CHAPTER 2

Allosaurus

By: Tyler Wesely The Allosaurus walks on 2 legs. It is 10 feet tall. The Allosaurus weighs 4.5 tons. It is a meat eater and lived in the Jurassic period. The name means “Different Lizard” and was 38 feet long. The Allosaurus has weird bones and rare bones. The Allosaurus can hold its prey and eat at the same time. It has 3 claws on each arm. The Allosaurus was named by O. Marsh and named in 1883. The Allosaurus Fossils were found in Western North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. The Allosaurus can run 37 mph. It can expand its jaws to fit in bigger chunks of meat.

CHAPTER 3

Ankylosaurus

By: Tobias Naney An Ankylosaurus is a very powerful dinosaur. The Ankylosaurus used its tail club to protect itself from other dinosaurs. The Ankylosaurus was a huge dinosaur measuring 35 feet tall. It weighed 3-4 tons or 6000 to 8000 pounds. This dinosaur walked on 4 legs. With a medium sized head that was partly covered, it was able to use his beak to eat the plants. The Ankylosaurus lived in Montana and Canada, about 65 –70 million years ago. Their fossils were found in the western USA. Two Ankylosaurus skulls and three parts of a skeleton have been found. The dinosaur means “Stiff Lizard” in order to protect the dino-saur. There was a heavy club at the end of its tail that was able to swing and attack. It could break others bones.

CHAPTER 4

Ankylosaurus

By: Burkett Peters

Have you ever heard of a dinosaur that means “fused lizard”? Then you are looking for Ankylosaurus! This dinosaur had a wide skull but a small brain. I bet he was smart! Ankylosaurus had spikes on its bulky head. Its teeth were 2 centimeters long! It ate low lying plants. Ankylosaurus lived in Montana in the U.S.A. and Alberta, Can-ada. It weighed up to 3 to 4 tons and was 25 to 35 feet long! I couldn’t pick it up! The height of Ankylosaurus was 4 feet at the hips. Its tail had a club on the end of it that was used to whack its enemies. Ankylo-saurus walked on four legs, not two like some other dinos. It had armor plates on its body. It would be kind of scary to meet an Ankylosaurus. Another reason to stay clear was because it ate a lot. To help it digest, it had a fermentation compartment. To put it simply, Ankylosaurus was one gassy dinosaur.

CHAPTER 5

Apatosaurus

By: Faith Renard Did you know that Apatosaurus swallowed stones to help it grind up food? It had a big gut because it ate so much plant material. Apato-saurus had flat, pencil shaped teeth in its small head. Its brain was even tiny. Apatosaurus walked on 4 legs. It had a long ship-like tail that helped it balance. Apatosaurus was 10 to 15 feet tall at the hips and 70 to 90 feet long. It weighed 33 to 38 tons. Apatosaurus lived in the Jurassic period. Fossils were found in Colorado, Oklahoma, Utah, and Wyoming. Most fossils have been found without skulls. Apatosaurus means “deceptive lizard” or “head-less lizard.” People used to think that there was a dinosaur named Bron-tosaurus. It really was Apatosaurus. “Headless lizard” or “deceptive liz-ard” really describe Apatosaurus.

CHAPTER 6

Brachiosaurus

By: Dylan Doty Brachiosaurus was a dinosaur with a small head but a very long neck. It stood kind of like a giraffe. It had a great sense of smell. Brachiosaurus had 52 chisel like teeth. It ate plants like conifers, gin-kos, and cycads. It swallowed its food whole and stones in its stomach helped it digest the plants. Brachiosaurus walked on 4 legs. Its front legs were longer than its back legs. It had a short but thick tail. It was 50 feet tall at the head and 80 to 85 feet long. It weighed 33 to 88 tons. That was 20 times larger then a big elephant. Brachiosaurus lived in forests and near rivers in Colorado, Africa, and Portugal. It lived in the Jurassic period. Its name means “arm liz-ard.” I was excited to learn about this really tall dinosaur!

Page 8: Dinosaurs - 2013

CHAPTER 7

Brontosaurus

By: Paige Bunn The dinosaur I am writing about is Brontosaurus. It has two names. The name Apatosaurus means ”deceptive lizard” and the name Brontosaurus means “thunder lizard.” Brontosaurus had tough skin, like leather, a long, thin neck, clawed “thumbs” on it’s front feet, and 3 claws on it’s back feet. Bronto-saurus had peg-like teeth and a long, whip-like tail. It was thought to be an enormous, peaceful dinosaur. It also stood on it’s back legs to reach the highest plants to eat. Brontosaurus had a tiny head and brain. But, that was perfectly fine, because when Allosaurus or another dinosaur attacked it, it would stand up on two legs and use its tail and thumb claws to defend itself. Brontosaurus’ height was ten to fifteen feet tall, and its weight was thirty-three to thirty-eight tons. Standing up, it was taller than a two-story building! It lived in Colorado, Oklahoma, Utah, and Wyo-ming, all in the USA, which is in North America. Brontosaurus was a Herbivore, which is a plant eater. It swallowed it’s food whole, so it had to swallow stones to help grind up food inside its stomach. Brontosau-rus was seventy feet long! It was among the largest land animals. It was also fifteen feet long at the hips. Brontosaurus lived in the late Jurassic period, about one-hundred fifty-seven to one-hundred forty-six million years ago. Brontosaurus is one of the best known dinosaurs. I think it is cool!

CHAPTER 8

Carnotaurus

By: Brooklyn Shaw The Carnotaurus weighs 1 ton and it is 6.5 ft. tall and 25 feet long. The Carnotaurus has two knobby eyebrow horns and it is a lizard hipped dinosaur and it has a large head, a long thin tail, and large teeth. It’s name means “Meat Eating Bull.” Akin impressions that were preserved with the single skeleton in-dicate that the skin was being covered by feathers. Teeth seen in other abelisaurids. On each side of the upper jaws there were 4 premaxillary and 12 maxillary teeth, the lower jaw was equipped with 15 dentary teeth per side. Contrasting to the robust-looking skull, the lower jaw was able to shallow and weakly constructed. The jaw bone was con-nected to the hindmost jaw bones by only two specific points. The forelimbs were probably shorter than any other large carni-vorours dinosaurs including the T-rex’s forelimbs were only a quarter of a size of the upper arm. The Carnotaurus lived in the early creta-ceous period. It is known to have lived 91 to 113 million years ago. It also lived in areas around South America and to this day only one sin-gle fossil was found.

CHAPTER 9

ChasmosaurusBy: Kaitlyn Emanuel

The Chasmosaurus has three sharp horns. One above each eye and one on their nose. All the Chasmosusauses have bony frills around the back of their heads. It’s most likely that it helps protect their head and keeps the head balanced. Scien-tist think that boy dinosaurs bump each other in fights to win girl dinosaurs. That kind of behavior has been seen with other living animals. The females have brighter color on their skin then males, so they can attract the males. The Chasmosaurus skin is rough. The jaws open and close like the sharp edge of scissors slicing easily through leaves and parts of plants. About 70 to 75 million years ago the Chasmosausorus was discovered, When they discovered the Chasmosaurus they discovered that they hatched from eggs. We think about 65 million years ago, dinosaurs became extinct. The Chasmosaurus was one of the earliest dinosaur to be discovered, in 1898. There thigh bone was 75 cm. long. The Chasmosaurus had a barrel shaped body. They needed strong neck muscles to hold it’s heavy head. Some dinosaurs were giant, like the Bronteosaurus it’s about the size of a football field. Is that giant or what? Some dinosaurs heads where as big as a man like the Chasmosaurus. The Chasmosaurus where fiers fighters, because the meat eaters wanted to eat them so they had to fight. The word dinosaur means “terrible lizard,” although some of the dinosaurs did look a bit like giant lizards, but dinosaurs were not really lizards, they were rep-tiles. Dinosaurs were found practically every were on earth. The Age of Dinosaurs was full of odd-looking creatures in many different shapes. We can learn about how dinosaurs behaved by comparing their claws, horns, spikes, clubs and other weapons. Some of their claws can be as long as a fork or 12 inches and 30 cm long. Many plants we know today did not exist in the time of dinosaurs. Giant ferns cone bearing trees and trees that looked like palm trees grew in damp, hot forest during the early dinosaur days. Later there were oak trees, willow trees and birch trees and flowering plants such as roses.

CHAPTER 10

Corythosaurus

By: Paige Dunker

I would like to see a real live Corythosaurus. Why, you might ask. I would love to watch it eat plants like pine needles, twigs, and magno-lia leaves. This duck billed dinosaur had 100’s of cheek teeth in the back of its mouth. Corythosaurus had a head like a helmet. The hollow bony crest on its long head was used like a trumpet. No wonder its name means “helmet lizard”. Corythosaurus was 6.6 feet tall at the hips and 30 to 33 feet long. It weighed about 5 tons. It had a long stiff tail. Corythosaurus walked or ran on 2 legs but it probably ate on all 4 legs. Corythosaurus lived in the Cretaceous period, roughly 80 to 65 million years ago. Fossils have been found in western North America and in Alberta, Canada. The first specimen was discovered by Barnum Brown in 1912. He found them in the Red Deer River, in Alberta. Corythosaurus had no natural defenses. It had no horns or ar-mor. It wasn’t even the smartest dinosaur but it did have a really cool crest.

CHAPTER 11

Dilophosaurus

By: Haley Johnson Dilophosaurus have two flattened semi circular crests on the head. It has a S-shaped neck. Dilophosaurus have long and thin legs. Dilophosaurus have three toed feet with sharp claws plus dew claws. The Dilophosaurus have long tails. Dilophosaurus have short arms with 3 fingered clawed hands. It must killed with its clawed arms and legs or scavenged carcasses. Dilophosaurus dinosaurs are 20 feet in length. The height is 5 feet tall at the hips. It weighed 650 to 1000 pounds. Dilophosaurus have long narrow legs, but strong back legs allowed it to run very fast. The first fossil Dilophosaurus skeleton was found in Arizona. Dilo-phosaurus fossil have been found in the USA all found together in Ari-zona. They are all now at the University of California’s Museum and Pa-leontology and at Berkeley. Fossils are similar to those of Dilophosau-rus have been found in many places. The Dilophosaurus was named in 1970’s by Samuel P. Welles. Dilophosaurus has teeth for biting meat and sharp claws for tearing at their preys skin. This Dilophosaurus probably moved in groups when searching for prey. The meaning for Dilophosaurus means “double crested lizard. “

Page 13: Dinosaurs - 2013

CHAPTER 12

Diplodocus

By: Peyton Bruce Diplodocus was a huge dinosaur with a very small head and a 26 foot long neck. Its whip like tail was 45 feet long. In all, it was 90 feet long and 16 feet tall at the hips. It weighed 10 to 20 tons. Diplodocus walked on 4 legs. It lived in the Rocky Mountains. The first fossil was found in 1877. Its name means “double beamed.” Diplodocus ate plants like ferns and mosses. It had jagged teeth. It swallowed huge stones to mash up its food. I learned a lot about Diplodocus.

CHAPTER 13

Dryosaurus

By: Catherine Vyhlidal

The Dryosaurus was named by Orthaniel C. Marsh in 1894. This dinosaur lived in a lush forest during the late Jurassic period about 145 to 156 million years ago. Dryosaurus was a herbivore dinosaur. Dryo-saurus was a fast two legged runner. Its back legs were long, strong, and thin. The tail helped it balance when running. Its main defense was running. Dryosaurus was about 10 feet long 5 feet tall from the hips. It weighed 170-200 pounds. Its eyes were large and its legs were long and thin. It also had only three toes with short arms and five long fingers. Dryosaurus laid eggs and may have cared for their young for at least a little while.

CHAPTER 14

Eoraptor

By: Madison Widick Eoraptor had sharp teeth. It was a meat eater. It ate animals that were dead. Eoraptor had a long head and tail. It walked on 2 legs and 4 legs. It lived in South America. It was 1 fool tall. It was one of the old-est dinosaurs yet found. Eoraptor means Dawn Plunderer. Eoraptor was named by Paul Sereno and named in 1993. It lived in the late Trias-sic period about 228 million years ago. Eoraptor is one of the earliest known dinosaurs. Eoraptors were small, lightly-built dinosaurs. It lived between 225 and 230 million years ago. The oldest Eoraptor lived 227 million years ago. The name dinosaur means “Terrible Lizard.” Eoraptor’s long jaws were lined with lots of small, saw-edged teeth. Peo-ple didn’t known if Eoraptor had eggs. Eoraptor was very small. Dino-saurs lived so long ago kids would love to have one.

CHAPTER 15

Gallimimus

By: Jake Hunke

Gallimimus was one of the fastest dinosaurs. It had long slender legs like an ostrich. An ostrich can run up to 43 miles per hour. Gal-limimus balanced itself by stretching out its spiky tail. It walked on two legs. Gallimimus had a small head but a large brain. It was a smart di-nosaur. It had a flat toothless beak. It ate both plants and different kinds of small animals like insects and lizards. Gallimimus was 6.3 feet tall at the hips and 13 to 20 feet long. It weighed 970 pounds. Its fossils were found in the Gobi Desert in the 1970’s. Gallimimus means “rooster mimic.” Gallimimus was one fast and smart dinosaur.

CHAPTER 16

Giganotosaurus

By: Taneeko Cooper Giganotosaurus means “Giant Southern Lizard.” It was named in 1995, It is a meat eater. The Giganotosaurus weighs 8 tons. When it was living 95-110 year ago. The length is 44-46 ft. It can be as tall as 13 ft. It lived in South America in Southern Argentina. Giganotosaurus was named by Rodolfo Coria Kindom Animalia Phylum Chordata. Name G. coroliniini in 1994. It was bigger than a T-Rex. It was the king of lizards. It could slice deep into its prey It lived 90 million year ago. It has a great sense of smell. It lived the same as aenormous plants. It did walk on two legs. It had a three fingered hand and also clawed feet. It may have cooperated in task like hunting and protecting their young. Meat eating dinosaurs have been scavengers as well as hunters. This means they ate animals that had been killed by others. By scavenging an animal gets a meal without much effort. This massive hunter was even larger than a Tyran-nosaurus. Its biggest teeth were an amazing 8 inches 20 long and could slice deep into the flesh of its prey. It lived 90 million years ago. Its length 50 feet.

Page 18: Dinosaurs - 2013

CHAPTER 17

Iguanodon

By: Arissa Obershaw I is for Iguanodon. This is the second dinosaur ever discovered. The Iguanodons thumbs were sharp spikes that it probably used to tear up leaves and branches for food. Instead of thumbs on its front hands, Iguanodon had strong, sharp spike made of bone. Iguanadon was un-usual because it could actually chew its food. Most reptiles cannot do this. Iguanadons specially-hinged upper jaw could flex from side to side, so its upper teeth ground over the lower ones. Discoveries were dozens of Iguanadon skeletons were found together. The Iguanadon was an animal that lived in herds. Iguanadon probably bit off ferns and other low plants with its beak. Then it chewed them with its cheek teeth. The herds usually roamed flat lands near rivers in search of food. It would use its beak to nip vegetation from trees and plants, then push its food further back into its mouth to be ground up by the teeth. One of the first dinosaurs discovered, Iguanodon lived at the same time as some meat eaters it weighed 4.5 tons. The Iguanodon’s thumb spike is about 5 inches long and can sink into a Spinosaurus’s right eye. Iguanodon teeth and bone were discovered in 1822 in south-ern England, before that of any other dinosaur.Meaning Iguana “tooth” Iguanodon was named Iguanodon because it has no teeth like Iguanas.

Page 19: Dinosaurs - 2013

CHAPTER 18

IguanodonBy: Owen Simanek

One of the first dinosaurs discovered was the Iguanodon. It lived in the early Cretaceous period. Iguanodon was in the bird family be-cause of its duckbill nose. You might think of it as a bird flying, but Iguanodon had four legs. The babies walked on two, but the grown ups walked on all fours. Usually, Iguanodon would hang around the lakes. In Europe ancient rocks with footprints of Iguanodons were found. Iguanodon held its food like today’s pandas. Iguanodons were plant eaters. They ate cycads, conifers, and ginkgos. Iguanodon had a horny toothless beak, with wide flat teeth in the back of its mouth. In 1878, 24 Iguanodon bodies were found in Belgian coal mines. Scientists could not find out if the spike on the thumb of the Iguanodon was on its head until they found an Iguanodon with the thumb in the right place. Iguanodon was 20 to 33 feet long and 9 feet tall at the hips. It weighed 4 to 5 tons. Iguanodon lived in England, Belgium, Germany, and in the U.S.A. Usually, Iguanodons traveled in herds. Iguanodon lived 125 to 135 million years ago. It had no defenses but its bony, spiked thumb. It used the thumb to eat too. Iguanodon’s name means “Iguana tooth” because one lady found a tooth that belonged to Iguanodon. That is how they got their name, Iguanodon. The lady told her husband. Her husband called a scientist who said it looked like the tooth from an Iguana. However, the lady thought it was from prehistoric times. I loved learning about Iguano-don, one of the first dinosaurs ever found. I hope some day I can dis-cover a brand new dinosaur.

CHAPTER 19

Lambeosaurus

By: Rebekah Voss Would you ever believe that a dinosaur would have a shape on top of its head and it might be as big as its head? Well, its true. Lambeo-saurus did. Lambeosaurus was a plant –eater. It ate conifers, ginkgos, and magnolia leaves. Lambeosaurus had a wide, toothless bill and many cheek teeth. Lambeosaurus was 7 feet tall at the hips. Its length was 30 to 50 feet long from the top of its head to the tip of its long, stiff tail. It weighed 5.6 pounds. Lambeosaurus walked on 2 legs. Fossils have been found in western USA, Mexico, and Canada. Lambeosaurus lived in the late Cretatacous period. Its name means “Lambe’s Lizard.” It was named after Lawrence Lambe, a Canadian pa-leontologist. Lambeosaurus was the first duck billed dinosaur found in North America. To me, Lambeosaurus was one of the coolest dino-saurs.

CHAPTER 20

Megaraptor

By: Jacob Lewis Megaraptors lived during the late Cretaceous period, about 90 million year’s ago. Megaraptor means “huge robber.”Megaraptor bones have been found in Argentina. Megaraptors were ter-rifying predators with two large, sharp claws. Megaraptors were not very tall, only 6 feet in height. They walked on 2 thin bird like legs. Me-garaptors were 20 feet long, they used their tail for balance. Megaraptors had a curved flexible neck, with a big head and sharp teeth. They used their sharp teeth and powerful jaw to kill prey. Mega-raptors were carnivores, meat eaters. Megaraptors hunted in packs.

Page 22: Dinosaurs - 2013

CHAPTER 21

Megalosaurus

By: Kristian Colvin-Maher Megalosaurus lived in Europe. It is nicknamed “Great Lizard.” They can weigh up to 1 ton and 12 feet tall. They have big jagged teeth so they are meat eaters. A Megalosaurus was a dinosaur who was very smart at lot of things, more than other dinosaurs. It was known to waddle like a duck.

Page 23: Dinosaurs - 2013

CHAPTER 22

Saltopus

By: Lauren Kohl Saltopus was an early dinosaur that lived in Scotland during the Traissic period. Its fossils were found in 1910. Saltopus had a long head. It had dozens of small sharp teeth. It was a meat –eater that mostly ate insects. Saltopus walked on its two strong back legs. It had hollow bones, with five fingers on its hands. Saltopus was 8 inches tall at the hips. It was two feet long and weighed two pounds. Saltopus was about the size of a cat. The name Saltopus means “hopping foot.” It was a fast runner. It may have been a scavenger, eating carcasses that it found. Saltopus was a small but quick dinosaur.

Page 24: Dinosaurs - 2013

CHAPTER 23

Spinosaurus

By: Abby Johnson

Have you ever heard of Spinosaurus? Its name means “spiny liz-ard” because it had a large bony spine on its back. This huge “sail” was used to regulate its temperature. Spinosaurus lived in the Cretaceous period. Its fossils were found in Egypt and Marocco. Some fossils found in 1912 were destroyed dur-ing World War 11. Spinosaurus had a large head. It had long sharp teeth. It was a meat-eater. It liked to eat large fish. Spinosaurus was 40 to 50 feet long. It weighed 4 tons or more. Scientists really aren’t sure if Spino-saurus walked on 2 or 4 legs. This spiny lizard was interesting to study.

Page 25: Dinosaurs - 2013

CHAPTER 24

Stegosaurus

By: Leia Westwood Stegosaurus had bony plates down it’s back. It’s name means “roof lizard.” It was named in 1877 by Othniel Marsh. It’s bones were in USA since 1876. A Stegosaurus usually weighed 6,800 pounds. It was 200 feet tall.(That’s as tall as ten cars!) If you were compared to it you would probably be smaller than the knee. Stegosaurus probably ate moss, fox tails, and cycads. Most people still wish that dinosaurs were alive. If a predator came too close it would swing it’s tail side to side. It’s tail could travel up to 2 mph. If the predator came even closer it would slam its tail into it’s predators chest. Stegosaurus also had spikes on the end of its tail. These spikes were up to four feet long. It was a plant eater. It was so tall that it could reach up to very tall trees. Some people believe that the plates on its back made it very attractive. Babies were up to 4 in. tall right after they were born. It was 6.5 to 11.5 feet long and 110 pounds. Troodon mother laid up to 22 eggs in pairs. Troodon mother arranged them carefully. She buried them to keep them safe and from moving or they might be born with deformities or dead. They are amazing dinosaurs.

Page 26: Dinosaurs - 2013

CHAPTER 25

Stegosaurus

By: Shawna Ziemba We use plates to eat meals. Stegosaurus had 17 plates on its back that were used for protection. Its name means “plated lizard” or “roof lizard.” The head of Stegosaurus was the same size as a horse’s head. Stegosaurus had small leaf-shaped teeth further back in its cheeks. It had a toothless beak. It ate low growing plants like ferns, mosses, and conifers. Stegosaurus walked on 4 legs. Its back legs were longer than its front legs. It was slow moving. Stegosaurus had a flexible tail with spikes at the end. It was 9 feet tall at the hips and 26 to 30 feet long. It weighed 6,800 pounds. Stegosaurus was the size of a bus. Stegosaurus lived in family groups. Fossils were found in Colo-rado, Utah, and Wyoming. It was really fun learning about the “plated lizard,” Stegosaurus.

Page 27: Dinosaurs - 2013

CHAPTER 26

Torosaurus

By: Liberty Dake

Torosaurus had the longest frill of all the horned dinosaurs. The frill at the back of the skull was longer than the skull itself.Torosaurus lived 70-65 million years ago. Torosaurus length was 21-23 feet. The height is 7 ft and the weight is 4 tons. The first Torosaurus skull was found by the fossil hunter John Bell Hatcher. The Torosaurus means “Pierced Lizard.” The Torosaurus habit is woodlands of western North America. The Torosaurus eats plants like flowering plants. The fossils have been found in North Amer-ica. Torosaurus’ enormous horned skull was 8 feet long. It had a large, bony neck frill, with a short horn on the snout. Also having two long eyebrow horns and a toothless beak. Torosaurus could chew well with its cheek teeth. Torosaurus had a short tail. Toroauruswas named after a bull and walks on 4 legs.

Page 28: Dinosaurs - 2013

CHAPTER 27

Triceratops

By: Brooklyn Warren Triceratops means “3-horned face.” It’s a great name because Tri-ceratops had 3 horns on its face. There were 2 big horns and 1 small horn on its 10 feet long skull. Triceratops had a frill behind its head. It had a sharp parrot-like beak. It was a plant eater. Triceratops walked on 4 legs. Its tail was short but pointed. It was 7 feet tall at the hips and 30 feet long. It weighed between 6 and 12 tons. Triceratops lived in the late Cretaceous period. Fossils were found in western Canada and western USA. Triceratops was hunted by Tyrannosaurus rex. Triceratops probably charged into its enemy like a modern-day rhinoceros does. Triceratops was one of the most famous dinosaurs. I liked learning about Triceratops!

Page 29: Dinosaurs - 2013

CHAPTER 28

Triceratops

By: Ethan Emanuel Triceratops lived in North America and it also lived in the late cre-taceous period. It lived about 72 million years ago. Fossils have been found in western U.S.A. and the state of Wyoming. The Triceratops skin was like leather. The neck was a shield for defense. The Triceratops had 3 horns on its head, 1 is below its eyes. The Triceratops lived in T-Rex country. It also had a plastic like shield, so the T. rex couldn’t bite it. One Triceratop’s skull that was discovered weighed more than 3.3 tons. Triceratops is Greek for three horned face, but this dinosaur had only two real horns, the third one was much smaller horn. On its snout was made from different material.

CHAPTER 29

Troodon

By: Alisha Hernandez Troodon was a very smart dinosaur. For a small dinosaur it had a very big brain. Its eyes were also big. They were almost 2 inches wide. Troodon had long serrated teeth. It was a meat-eater. It’s name means “wounding tooth.” Troodon walked on two legs. It had a stiff tail. It was only 3 feet tall at the hips and 6.5 to 11.5 feet long. It weighed 110 pounds. Fossils of Troodon were found in Alberta, Canada and in both Montana and Wyoming in the U.S.A. Mother Troodons laid up to 22 eggs in pairs, all at the same time. That’s a lot of eggs and Troodons.

Page 31: Dinosaurs - 2013

CHAPTER 30

TroodonBy: Allie Jo Wochnick

When it ran it rotated its huge middle toe claw upwards and ran on the other toes. Some nests are in dirt nests. The Troodon’s is a good hunter. The brain would have been about six times bigger than a croco-dile. This dinosaur had huge eyes that took up a big part of its skull. Troodon hunt prey at night. The hands of the Troodon had slender fin-gers. Unlike the “terrible claw” in Deinonychus, the claw of the Troo-don was smaller and higher up on the foot. Troodon had strong legs. The first specimen of Troodon found with just one tooth. Troodon had more teeth than any other meat eater. The dinosaur walks on 2 legs, has a thin tail, sharp teeth and eats meat. Troodon is a human-sized fast long-legged bipedal (walked on two legs) meat eater with serrated teeth and long slim jaws. It may have been the smartest dinosaur. This Troodon lived 76 to 70 million years ago. Troodon’s teeth were almost 1 inch. It was 3 feet tall at the hip.

Page 32: Dinosaurs - 2013

CHAPTER 31

Tyrannosaurus Rex

By: Josiah Brodd A T-rex is 40 feet long. T-rex is 5 to 20 feet tall. T-rex is 5 to 7 tons. T-rex means “Tyrant Lizard King.” Henry Fairfield named the T-rex in the year 1905. The T-rex lived 65-85 million years ago. Fossil have been found in the USA T-rex was the king of dinosaurs. It was the largest meat –eating dinosaur on Earth. This dinosaur was as long as an 18 wheeled semi-truck. T-rex had big jaws full of saw like teeth for crunching bones. T-rex’s arms are tiny and weak. T-rex lived 70 million years ago. T-rex is as tall as 3 men. A T-rex jaws are 4 feet long. A T-rex had 50 to 60 thick bone crunching teeth. A T-rex has 9 inches long. A T-rex can eat 500 pounds of meat in one bite. T-rex lived in the forest. A T-rex eats some plant eaters. A T-rex probably found a lot of food. A T-rex’s teeth are 6 inches long. A T-rex has a stiff tail.

CHAPTER 32

Tyrannosaurus Rex

By: Nate Leners

Tyrannosaurus rex was one of the fiercest dinosaurs around. Its name means “Tyrant lizard king.” T. rex had a skull that was 5 feet long. Its jaws were big. They held about 60 sawlike teeth for crunching bones. It was always growing new teeth. If you were in the mouth of a T. rex you would have 60 good reasons why you wished you were some-where else. T. rex was a meat-eater. Its favorite meat was Triceratops. T. rex walked on 2 powerful legs. It was a fast runner but its tiny arms were weak. It had a very stiff pointed tail that helped it balance. It was 15 to 20 feet tall and 40 feet long. It weighed 5 to 7 tons.T.rex fossils were found in Montana, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming in the USA. Others were found in Canada and Mongolia. If T. rex was alive today it would be a man eating beast! I’m glad T. rex is extinct.

CHAPTER 33

Ultrasaurus

By: Trent Harris Ultrasaurus was a long necked dinosaur. It breathed through a crest on its head. Its nostrils were located there. Ultrasaurus had tiny chisel shaped teeth. It was a plant eater that ate the tops of trees. It swallowed its food whole and digested the food in its gut. Ultrasaurus was the biggest dinosaur found so far. It was the size of a 4 story building. Ultrasaurus was 50 feet tall at the hips and 82 to 100 feet long. Its whip like tail was 18 feet long. It weighed 55 to 130 tons. It walked on 4 legs. Ultrasaurus fossils have been found in Colorado. It lived in the late Jurassic period. Its name means “Ultra lizard.” For such a huge di-nosaur, it had a very small brain. Even though Ultrasaurus wasn’t very smart, it was one enormous dinosaur!

CHAPTER 34

Ultrasaurus

By: Makaela Wolfenden It means “Ultra Lizard!” It swallows it’s food whole in 1 swallow. It does’t have sharp teeth. It has sharp claws though. It is all different colors and it’s my favorite. The Ultrasaurus was close to 100 feet long and may have weighed up to 20 elephants! I’d say that’s a lot of ele-phants. I wonder if it would scare a T-Rex, wouldn’t you and your friends and say? I wish I was up close to one. Even bigger dinosaur then Brachiosaurus were Superosaurus and Ultrasaurus, but scientists now think the biggest dinosaur of all was Saismosaurus, meaning at least 110 feet long. It eats the top of trees. It weighed 130 tons. This giant dinosaur has not yet been officially named however, it is so huge that it probably deserves the name Ulti-mate Dinosaur. I think there are still some dinosaurs out there.

CHAPTER 35

Utahraptor

By: Conner Kitt Utahraptor had the perfect name. Why? Its fossils were found in Utah. Its name means “robber from Utah.” It was named in 1993. We’ve only known about this dinosaur for a little more than 20 years. Utahraptor’s head was big. It had large eyes and a large brain. It was very smart. It might have hunted in packs to make it easier to catch its prey. Utahraptor had sharp serrated teeth it used to eat meat. When it broke a tooth it grew a new one. Utahraptor was about 6 feet tall at the hips and 16 to 23 feet long. It weighed roughly one ton. It walked on two legs. Its tail was made for balance and turning fast. It was a fast runner that could jump and bal-ance on one foot. Utahraptor was an interesting dinosaur to study.

CHAPTER 36

Velociraptor

By: Hannah Johnson I would never want to meet a Velociraptor if I lived during dino-saur times. Why? Velociraptors were smart dinosaurs who probably hunted in groups. They had 80 very sharp, curved teeth in their 7 inch long heads. They were meat eaters who even battled a Protoceratops. A Velociraptor weighed between 15 to 33 pounds. It was 3 feet tall at the hips and 5 to 6 feet long. Its tail was longer than its body. It walked on two legs. Velociraptor had retractible claws that were 3.5 inches long on the middle toe of each foot. Velociraptor’s name means “speedy thief.” It could run very fast. Fossils of Velociraptor were found in Mongolia, Russia, and China. The first ever Velociraptor fossil was found in Mongolie in 1924. Velocirap-tor was small for a dinosaur, but it was quick and smart.
