First, the bad news

1. According to Dr. Susan Lipkins, “Over the past ten years, hazing has become more violent, more humiliating, and more sexual. Hazing is a virus that has attacked our youth and is spreading quickly.”

First the bad news:

A recent editorial from the HBCU Digest assert that the financial cost that hazing causes to your school can impede its growth for decades, if not generations. … The social capital cost lost by such an incident can be simply immeasurable on a schools brand.

Now, some good news

Coalitions and taskforces currently being formed will heighten awareness on our campuses about the consequences of hazing.

For example, the Anti-hazing Coalition led by Dr. Jimmy

Hammock, International President of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Now, some good news

The launching of the new ANTIHAZE National Hazing Hotline providing students, parents, faculty and staff, and other stakeholders a “tool” that they can use to deter hazing.

How is this hotline different from other hazing hotlines that are operational?

Some  features of the ANTIHAZE Hazing Hotline

The ANTIHAZE Hazing Hotline that is available to any student, parent, or other person who chooses to use it to give notice about hazing activities to the appropriate officials at any university.  This scope of service makes ANTIHAZE a national hazing hotline, perhaps the first truly national hazing hotline.

Some  features of the ANTIHAZE Hazing Hotline

5. Each Hazing Notices recorded on the Hotline can be immediately   forwarded by email or text messages to responders facilitating a rapid   response;

6. Confirmation information is requested from each caller in an effort     to authenticate supplement the information given in each call;

7. The identity of callers to the ANTIHAZE Hotline is protected, minimizing the risk of retaliation against callers or callers being ostracized.

These features should combine to make the ANTIHAZE Hazing Hotline a highly effective hazing deterrent in the near future as student use of the hotline expands.
