Digipack
OUR DESIGN
Template
We have conducted research on digipack’s as seen on our blog. The artists Caroline and Aino hypothetically represent Christina and Beth.
This is the template structure of the digipack we’ll be using:

The song title, ‘I love It’, isn’t included because I couldn’t
find the right font. But this is hopefully the layout and
theme we are hoping to go ahead with.
I formatted the image by adding in the triangulation background and edited by rotating it
to suit the original image. Such as the pattern ending mid thigh on Caroline (left) as well as
running across Aino’s white camisole adding some colour.
If you look closely at some of the white
patterned triangles., you can see a slight yellow tinge, which I
incorporated. I achieved this by
reversing the orlorn effect on the website I
used.
As our genre is Pop, I thought by incorporating a
quirky and colourful background with a white and black image would
create a juxtaposition of mixed emotions.
As our storyline focuses on being free and having fun
after breakup. So the black and white image represents
the good and the bad (binary opposites, as stated
by Levi Strauss). The triangulation background
creates a fun dynamic edge, which links to our narrative
of being free and having fun. By having the
background cast over them it creates a buffer between the good and bad emotions i.e. happiness and sadness.
I added an engraved banner and chose this
font because I felt it went well together and complimented the
triangulation stencil in the background. The
positioning of the banner was crucial. As I’ve placed it so one end lines up with Aino’s crossed leg and the
other crosses into the triangulation background
nicely.
INSIDE COVEROur storyline emphasises the bond between best friends. So it
makes sense to have an intimate shot of the two friends. As in our narrative Beth helps, Christina to get over the
breakup with her boyfriend, something many teenage girls and young female adults can relate to.
By having a close up, essentially from just below
the shoulder. Allows the attention to remain on the
Artist’s, essentially promoting their star image.
Where as a long shot would distract the
audience, by showing the outfit or a background. This shot has our focus directly
on them.
Body language is key and the positioning of the pair in the shot. As it portrays the bond
between them and importance of it is depicted in our
narrative. Also their outfits are simple and aren’t loud,
allowing us to focus on their facial expressions. Caroline’s black blazer contrasts nicely with Aino’s skin tone, as it
enhances the contours of her face.
Additionally the fact that there is no physical space between them reflects on their close
bond . Additionally, that they’re a pair, two peas in a
pod.The make up is bold but helps to draw attention to the star image , and make the shot
come across as more powerful and significant. The white background is simple yet very effective, and
in this case less is more. By having a plain background it means that our attention isn’t navigated away from
Caroline and Aino.
CD This will denote a consistency in theme from the front cover of the digipack, which was a key feature I identified in album adverts.
However I will probably rotate the image. I think I will keep the colour scheme the same as it incorporates that fun vibe we put across in our narrative, about being young and free. Which is depicted through the different shapes and sizes and the patterns on the triangles.
Again the differences could relate to the array of emotions in the music video as you can see a serious edge to the music video, for example by using black and white effect, when Christina and Beth are lip synching in the Studio.
BACKAs we have a black and
white effect in scenes of our music video as well as the
black and white image of the front cover . I think that by
having the back cover have a grey scale background will
be consistent with the theme. Also on the inside cover the background was white so it makes sense to have the back cover have a
black/ greyscale background as it creates a good
juxtaposition between the two.
The makeup here unlike the inside cover is made
to look non existent. This denotes a sense of
vulnerability which is connotes through the sombre background colour as well as the stoic expressions and the black clothing. All
these features through mise en scene create a sombre, pensive mood.
The fact that they are positioned opposite each other and their
eye contact is averted from one another adds
to the tension in the picture.
Additionally, this image will juxtapose with the
image on the inside cover, basically
denoting a contrast between the happiness
and sadness (binary opposites), as even though Christina is
having fun, she’s still hurting.
Additionally, the lighting is a key feature in this
image. As you can seen it mostly on Caroline’s face,
portraying her as being exposed and hurt. In the context of our storyline
this could be explained as being a result of her
being hurt from breaking up with her Boyfriend. Also you can see the
lighting on Aino, but to a lesser degree. Again, in
the context of our narrative it would denote
Beth hurting because Christina is. Therefore again establishing the
close bond they have with one another.
