Match Report;

Wellington Diesels dominate hapless Wollongong Miners------------------------------------------------------------------------Wollongong,NSW- Another game in which both starting Quarterbacks were injured but the result was known long before. Wellington were just too powerful today and over ran a Wollongong team that is now in serious trouble. The Diesels won the battle of the ground game and then forced the Miners into 5 turnovers, a statistic that will rankle with Head Coach Frank Curry.

"I was pleased with the way we took charge. That was more like what we are looking for. Two desperate teams today and we were able to step up when it mattered which is a good sign for the future" Coach Nick Flemming said after the game.

Another telling statistic were the 6 catches by Troy Williamson. That was the most Corner Back Dan Whittle had thrown at him in over 2 years and Williamson showing his class won that battle. "Playing 33 of the Miners is the toughest challenge. He gives you nothing but I gave him nothing so it was enjoyable" Williamson said.

A deflection gave the Diesels the first turnover and David Mundine took the pick all the way for the score. Wellington then added three field goals and another score after a turnover to lead 23-0 by the start of the final quarter. Rookie Jordan Jerome was now in charge of the Miners offense and he was struggling with the speed of the game. He was able to get into the end zone himself after a long drive late but it was never going to be anything but a consolation.

After the game both teams turned to the injury list. Rod WIlliams complained of shortness of breath and pain in the chest but it was believed he just has bruising of the sternum and could be back as early as next week. For The Miners the situation is much worse with Richard Davis suffering a dislocation of his throwing arm.
