The land, in a steep, grassy canyon with fruit trees, birds and butterflies, lies at the end of a quiet country road. Surrounded by pristine, protected rain forest, the area is reputed to have the cleanest air on the planet. The site is 20 minutes away from the historical university town of Vassouras, two hours from Rio de Janeiro and four hours from Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte, three major cities of Brazil. This is the most populated part of Brazil and the area with the most meditators. The first course in the Centre was held in April 2003 and presently regular 10-day courses are being conducted including courses for old students. The Dhamma Hall can seat 80 students, and the Centre can presently accommodate 60. Two foreign language discourse Halls are also available. Dhamma Santi will have individual cells and accommodation for 30-day courses by 2007. The Centre capacity will be expanded to serve 80 meditators and to have courses for the Chinese community, in Chinese and English.
