The Free ThrowsBy Nikolas Fantocone

State Championship on the line. Today I have been shooting just fine. When I got the ball I yowled. “The defender on me has just fouled”. Two free throws just for me. Will I make them? We will see. The first one bounces up and in. Just one more and we will win. I shoot the ball and get it done. I can’t believe that we just won!

The Free Throws By Nikolas Fantocone

This poem is a couplet because every two lines rhyme and it is constant throughout the whole poem. I enjoy couplets so I liked this poem and

how it kind of left suspense in the middle. Also, I chose this poem because I have been in the

position that the author is in and I can relate to the poem.

Fastball By: Dwayne Brenna

This whole poem is a blank verse. The writer, Dwayne Brenna, is very creative with his words and interesting. I think this poem is a little tough to understand at first but once you really think about what he is saying, I think the way he said it is genius.

True Baller

Back in the day before I was old-school King-of-the-Court got Game shoe-dazzle, ball between skinny legs perfect touch, shooting a trifecta out on the perimeter

swish, nothing but net nobody could stop me one-on-one darting by defender throws

down tomahawk jam showing off, white man can dance.

This poem is a blank verse and is

somewhat a satire because the

common perception is that white people can’t play basketball

as good and this poem states

otherwise so it is ironic that the white

man is the best player on the court.

BasketballBy Lena Zheng

As you can see, This game is between you and me. I try to shoot, But I realize that I'm wearing boots! Where are my sneakers?

Wait, they're in my lockers. I tie my shoe laces tight, With a smile that's shining bright. I'm running to the hoop, Trying to shoot. SCORE!!! I'm winning this game, The crowd are screaming my

name. I finally success, This game is the BEST!!!

This poem is also a blank verse and uses an approximate rhyme at the end with the words “success” and “best”. This poem is an odd scheme but is interesting. Also I chose the poem because it is an awesome feeling when you are playing good or hit a big shot and the crowd chants your name.

Makin’ Jump ShotsBy Michael S. Harper

He waltzes into the lane

’cross the free-throw line,

fakes a drive, pivots,

floats from the asphalt turf

in an arc of black light,

and sinks two into the chains.

One on one he fakes

down the main, passes

into the free lane

and hits the chains.

A sniff in the fallen air—

he stuffs it through the chains

riding high:

“traveling” someone calls—

and he laughs, stepping

to a silent beat, gliding

as he sinks two into the chain

This poem really stood out to me because it creates really good imagery. I can picture the scene the poem is describing in my head. Also, this poem isn’t an average poem, its a free verse but it still flows very well. The writer, Michael Harper, did an excellent job turning a scene into poetry.

The Love Of The Game By Mitchell Browder

It's Friday night, I've got a game, We play the Indians,My best friend's team

My uniform's on It's only 4 o'clock Mom says we leave 5:30 on the dot

Tonight's our first game I'm fast in my new cleats, My glove's broken-in cause I've slept

on it for weeks

I'm still a little nervous but not about playing I'm wondering which girls are there and what

I'm going to be saying

The Love Of The Game By Mitchell Browder

This poem is also a couplet in a way and has a tone that the author is nervous. It is a poem that I’m sure some guys can relate to. I chose the poem because I like how he leads up makes you think he is excited to play his friend but really he is only nervous to talk to girls.

Thinking back through all the yearsHow swiftly they've passed byI close my eyes and bite my lip

Try so hard not to cryYou were always such a scrapper

A raging thunderstormThe day you shed your diaper

You donned a uniform.Fear - never a factor

With the toughest, there you stoodYou have the will, the soul,

the heart...But, I always knew you would

I watch you while you're sleepingSo still, so calm, serene

Once you step uponThat football field

You're one powerful machine.I marvel at your talents

You're intense and dedicatedSo keen, devoted, daring

Just as I anticipatedYour qualities are endless

You're faithful, kind and trueRighteous and respected

A leader, Josh, that's you! Watching you play any sportHas always been a pleasure

You're masterful and focusedMy pride - I can not measureAnd now my little scrapper

You've become a strapping manSo stay steadfast … follow the sun

And be the best you can!

My Little Scrapper By Judy Muldowney

This is my favorite poem that I chose. This poem has so much emotion in it and you can really feel it. I chose the poem because it really was meaningful and deep. The tone of the poem is sad/happy. It is a mother reminiscing about the years of her son being younger all the way up to now.

BARREL HORSEBy Kickin Bass Farm

It's a whole lot of power, that I sit upon.

Some days I think I'm crazy, just to get on.

He'll jump, he'll buck,he'll spook at this.

He'll spin, he'll hop,he'll run a bliss.

I keep threatening to sell, but I never do.

I'll make a good run,win a dollar or two.

He's hard to load up,and he's kinda head shy.

But when he gets in the arena,he really can fly.

This poem has a very good consonance. A consonance is when a poem has good harmony or an agreement on the

amount of components. This poem has a very good harmony , it just flows when you read it. I like this poem because of the ending. The ending in this poem just has so much energy. This poem stood out to me because its realistic, it shows how horses really are and how great

they can be.

This Is The Football SeasonBy Francis Duggan

This is the football Season it is that time of year

When men in the pub talk football as they enjoy their beer

And look forward to September when one club will fly the winner's flag

The team that wins the Premiership gives their fans the right to brag.

Their wives nicknamed the footy widows their husbands at the football club

Or after work talking football with their mates down at the local pub

They take football so seriously 'tis their passion in life

The footy fan loves his football club as much as his children or his wife.

And if their team lose at the weekend they feel and look so sad

What's known as football addiction they seem to have it bad

They feel sad for their football team and the chance of four premiership points gone

But they cheer up and look forward to next weekend's game as the working week wears on.

This is the football Season football has gone to their head

And their football scarves and beanies they even wear to bed

About their team they feel so passionate as if to them it did belong

And 'tis with delight and pride in victory that they sing the club song.

This Is The Football SeasonBy Francis Duggan

This poem is definitely imagery. The author, Francis Duggan, describes the scenes perfectly and he made the picture of what “The Football Season” is, real clear. I chose this

poem because I love how he created such good scenery and how accurate

it is.

The Victory Dance

To play as if today

Is your only chance.

Some say, “It’s just a game.”

Have they done the Victory Dance?

When hard-earned Victory

Was finally at hand,

Have they felt the glory

Raining down from the stands?

To do or not to do….

No one wants to hear, “We tried.”

Effort and dedication will be rewarded…

And ‘Sooner Magic’ is on your side.

Yes, to fall short is still an option;

But much better to succeed.

Heroes are made and remembered

Only by their deeds.

So, just go out and win.

Give your all to each and every chance.

Persevere and achieve…

And do the Victory Dance.

The Victory Dance By Robert Candler

This poem is very inspirational and is a poem that all athletes should be able to relate to and if not then they shouldn’t be playing. I chose the poem because I want to do the “Victory Dance” as well as many other people. This poem is in five stanzas, and the “Victory Dance” is a symbol of success.
