Design Statement

The overall concept and meaning of the production is natural and to let the audience decide who is right and wrong in the production. The whole production is all about organic and natural forms and shapes. The production of Medea to allow the audience members to decide which person she is, whether that be she is good and strong or if she is hateful, bad person.

The world Medea’s placed in is a very natural setting that may seem calm, but has some aspects that are scary and frightening. The colors used are organic and neutral colors like brown, red, orange and a little bit of blue. The colors will be very rich but low in value. There are few pastel colors, but more shades of the certain colors. There may be some shine to our color scheme, but deep and dark colors. The space is very large, so the audience will feel like they are lost in the setting. The lighting will be very natural occurring light, with some ethereal light. The main lighting will have a tint of orange, and yellow. The play take places during the fall, where the outside colors are red, yellow and orange, a very organic feel. The space is very open and free. The shapes in the setting will be very round and oval shapes, with very few sharp edges. The lines in the production are very fluid.

The design concept adds to the overall mood and atmosphere in many ways. The setting and atmosphere are very calm because the story and plot itself is very tense and dark. The mood and feeling is to be organic and natural.

The visual production style reinforces the meaning of the play in many ways. The colors and style represents the meaning and idea of Medea, which is about death and dying.

Design Statement Part 2

The research and metaphors helped in the design concept because the metaphor and made the painting come to life in the production. The shapes are very round and organic.

There were lots of directional principles such as repetition. Everything continues and is the same feeling and setting throughout the whole production. Everything fits and makes sense to there is the same familiar things. Everything has rhythm and flows together, and the radiation is the colors used. The whole production transitions smoothly and naturally together. There is gradation with the reds. The lines are very fluid but there is still parallelism in the way the lines flow throughout the setting. There is alternation in the setting and design in the way that there is natural and calm things but then there will be scary and haunting things in the setting as well.

There are highlighting principles in Medea as well. There is emphasis on simplicity in the show. Everything is natural and neutral but there are intense parts in the setting and that is what the emphasis is focused on. The whole setting is calm but every once in a while there are things that stand out that are frightening. There is concentricism in the show because everything goes together. There is contrast because almost everything is natural and organic but there are a couple things that stand out to be scary and causes a difference in the setting.

There is synthesis in the production as well. There is unity and harmony throughout the production because everything is natural and is all goes together. There are things that stand out but it still fits in well with the rest of the setting. Everything is sized correctly so there is proportion and scale in the show.
