(a) At age 7, you become a page- Must be from a noble family- Leave your home

(b) At age 14, promoted to a squire- Duties included upkeep of equipment- Helped the knight put on armor

- Did other tasks, such as carving meat- Combat training (but did not fight yet)

Knights were the elite soldiers of their time.

(a)They were better equipped.

(b) They were better trained.

Knights were effective because most soldiers were foot soldiers often with little more than I pitch fork and regular clothes.
