Briefly highlight the contributions of the department to enerating new knowledge, basic or applied: The department of Urdu after the interval of three years or so, revises its curriculum according to the needs of the students and introduces additional themes in the existing courses that are relevant,and cater to the needs of the students, keeping in mind the prospect of employability and

research interests of the students in mind. In this direction, the department follows a systematic process of designing of the courses with improved content per training to media and translation. It may suggest a workshop to be organized for the betterment of the subject and after thorough discussion and approval on the proposal of the same by the statutory bodies. Subsequently ,the Faculty Committee after its assessment sends the same for the final approval of the Academic Council. And the university after proper utilization of the guidelines of the regulatory body concerned gives its final approval to the same and tries to facilitate the infrastructure, if needed. It appreciates and encourages the individual departments to widen the canvas of the relevant programmes.

Strength: • Emphasis on discipline through keeping a spirit of co-operation among the teachers and their

preparedness to help students. • Frequent thorough revision of Syllabi in view of new trends in learning technology • Competent teachers to take up courses in allied disciplines like Linguistic sand mass media

• Teaching materials based on modern and classical Urdu as well as technology in learning and teaching Urdu.

• Teachers’ active involvement inguiding students in literary and co-curricular activities like Seminars, research scholars’seminars, debates and essay competitions

Weaknesses: • Requirement for more faculties • Faculty enhancement through greater exposure • Teachers to be provided more institutional and academic environment • Non availability of Seminar Library • Non availability of Conference Hall

52. Future plans of the department: The future plans of the department are: Ø Establishing an Urdu Centre in the name of a distinguished Urdu Scholar associated with

Jamia Millia Islamia earlier. Ø Taking up a massive project to translate the works of Grudev Rabindra Nath Tagore into Urdu

in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. Ø Enhancing the status of present DRS-Phase-II to DSA through quality translation of

representative fiction in regional languages of India. Ø Establishing an Urdu Culture Centre at Jamia Millia Islamia.
