Nominations will be accepted online through October 2 nd , 2011, and the web address is: http://www.ncsu.edu/faculty-development/awards/nominate-ot.html UNDERGRADUATE COORDINATOR All students: October 18 th begins the Advising Period for Spring 2012. Seniors, Juniors, and Sophomore are able to register first, followed by second-year Ag Institute students, and later Freshmen and first-year Ag Institute students. A student’s enrollment date is the first day and time he/she can begin registration. For general enrollment start dates, please see http://www.ncsu.edu/registrar/calendars/enrollmentsprg.html . To see when your specific Enrollment Date begins, the web link above will have instructions soon. An Advising Hold has been placed on your student account by Registration and Records until you have met with your advisor, so be sure to schedule an appointment with your advisor before your Enrollment Date! Please be prepared when you meet with your advisor; you should already have determined which classes you will take. Most advisors require students to fill out the online “Plan of Work” (which is your plan of which courses you’ll be taking). The Plan of Work is available through MyPack Portal. If you need a curriculum sheet, you may see it online at http://www.cals.ncsu.edu/an_sci/home/teaching.htm . Once you have met with your advisor, he/she will release the Advising Hold from your student account so you can register for courses. If you are unsure who your advisor is, please log in to MyPack Portal and check your Degree Audit, where you will see your advisor listed. For advisor contact information, please go to http://www.cals.ncsu.edu/an_sci/home/teaching/advisors.html . If you are an Animal Science major (B.S.) and do not have an advisor listed, please contact Dee Pryse at [email protected] or stop by 342 Riddick. If you are a freshman looking for an Animal Science course to take, you may be interested in ANS 105, Intro to Companion Animals or ANS 110, Intro to Equine Science for spring or fall. These courses are also offered via Distance Education in the summer. Pass/fail warning: Please remember that changing a course you are enrolled in to be pass/fail (also called “credit only”) means the course can only count as a free elective. If it is an Animal Science course, it cannot count as a Departmental Elective; if it is a Humanities/Social Science course, it will not fulfill the requirement. Only free electives and PE courses can be taken pass/fail. Also, courses taken pass/fail at other institutions will not transfer in; a transfer course has to be taken for a letter grade and the student must earn a C-minus or better in order for it to transfer. Grade Exclusion Regulation: The "First Year Course Repeat" policy has been amended to become the Grade Exclusion Regulation, which means a student does not have to be in his or her first year to be able to invoke the regulation. Please note that applying this regulation means the course cannot count toward a major or minor and the course will move to Non-Degree. Please see: http://policies.ncsu.edu/regulation/reg-02-20-16 for more information. Note: The new regulation says students who have applied for graduation cannot invoke it, but we can get a waiver this semester only for graduating seniors (see Dr. Moore). Please also note that vet schools, grad schools, etc. do not recognize this and will re-calculate the student's GPA using all courses attempted. ANS 500-level courses: Seniors - Did you know that you can sign up for 500-level ANS courses? Animal Science majors automatically get Animal Science Discipline credit, and 500-level courses also meet the requirements for Honors or Scholars courses if you are in one of those programs. All Seniors with a 3.0 or higher GPA, whether or not they are in Honors or Scholars, are encouraged to look into the 500-level Animal Science courses. To see all 500-level Animal Science courses that are being offered next semester, simply do a course search.
