UNDERGRADUATE COORDINATOR
All students: October 18 th begins the Advising Period forSpring 2012. Seniors, Juniors, and Sophomore are able toregister first, followed by second-year Ag Institute students, andlater Freshmen and first-year Ag Institute students. A student’senrollment date is the first day and time he/she can beginregistration. For general enrollment start dates, please seehttp://www.ncsu.edu/registrar/calendars/enrollmentsprg.html. Tosee when your specific Enrollment Date begins, the web linkabove will have instructions soon. An Advising Hold has beenplaced on your student account by Registration and Recordsuntil you have met with your advisor, so be sure to schedule anappointment with your advisor before your Enrollment Date! Please be prepared when you meet with your advisor; youshould already have determined which classes you will take. Most advisors require students to fill out the online “Plan ofWork” (which is your plan of which courses you’ll be taking). The Plan of Work is available through MyPack Portal. If youneed a curriculum sheet, you may see it online athttp://www.cals.ncsu.edu/an_sci/home/teaching.htm. Once youhave met with your advisor, he/she will release the AdvisingHold from your student account so you can register for courses.
If you are unsure who your advisor is , please log in toMyPack Portal and check your Degree Audit, where you will seeyour advisor listed. For advisor contact information, please goto http://www.cals.ncsu.edu/an_sci/home/teaching/advisors.html. If youare an Animal Science major (B.S.) and do not have an advisorlisted, please contact Dee Pryse at [email protected] orstop by 342 Riddick.
If you are a freshman looking for an Animal Science courseto take, you may be interested in ANS 105, Intro to Companion
Animals or ANS 110, Intro to Equine Science for spring orfall. These courses are also offered via DistanceEducation in the summer. Pass/fail warning : Please remember that changing acourse you are enrolled in to be pass/fail (also called“credit only”) means the course can only count as a freeelective. If it is an Animal Science course, it cannot countas a Departmental Elective; if it is a Humanities/SocialScience course, it will not fulfill the requirement. Only freeelectives and PE courses can be taken pass/fail. Also, courses taken pass/fail at other institutions will nottransfer in; a transfer course has to be taken for a lettergrade and the student must earn a C-minus or better inorder for it to transfer.
Grade Exclusion Regulation : The "First Year CourseRepeat" policy has been amended to become the GradeExclusion Regulation, which means a student does nothave to be in his or her first year to be able to invoke theregulation. Please note that applying this regulationmeans the course cannot count toward a major or minorand the course will move to Non-Degree. Please see:http://policies.ncsu.edu/regulation/reg-02-20-16 for moreinformation. Note : The new regulation says students whohave applied for graduation cannot invoke it, but we canget a waiver this semester only for graduating seniors(see Dr. Moore). Please also note that vet schools, gradschools, etc. do not recognize this and will re-calculatethe student's GPA using all courses attempted.
ANS 500-level courses : Seniors - Did you know that youcan sign up for 500-level ANS courses? Animal Sciencemajors automatically get Animal Science Discipline credit, and 500-level courses also meet the requirements forHonors or Scholars courses if you are in one of thoseprograms. All Seniors with a 3.0 or higher GPA, whetheror not they are in Honors or Scholars, are encouraged tolook into the 500-level Animal Science courses.
To see all 500-level Animal Science courses that arebeing offered next semester, simply do a course search.
Choose "ANS - Animal Science," then for "course number," setit to be "greater than or equal to" 500. This returns a long list, but you can ignore everything beyond the 500's. October 14 th is the deadline to withdraw or drop a coursewithout a grade, last day to change from credit to audit, and lastday to change to credit only. MyPack Portal closes at 11:59p.m. If you need to take care of any of these issues, please besure you do so by October 14th. Requests after this deadline areconsidered only for unforeseen and unavoidable extenuatingpersonal situations. The deadline for dropping below 12 hourshas already passed.
