Confession andrepentance bring us thepeace that only Christcan give. This is aspiritual peace, peacewith God, that anchorsour life and helps ustranscend our ownfrailty and anything elsethat life throws at us. Itis God's gift to God'speople. This is why wesay to each other afterthe Prayer ofConfession: "The peaceof the Lord be withyou."

Hymn: This paraphraseof Psalm 23 comes fromthe so-called ScottishPsalter of 1650, actuallyproduced by theWestminster Assemblyand intended for use byall Presbyterians in theBritish Isles, in place ofthe Sternhold andHopkins “Old Version”of the Church ofEngland.

We pray the Prayer forIllumination just beforethe reading of scripture. In this prayer, we askGod to speak to usthrough the words ofscripture and thesermon. We pray forillumination so that wemay be able to seethings we couldn’t seebefore.

Affirmation of Faith: Following the sermon, the congregation isgiven the opportunity torespond to hearingGod’s Word through theApostles Creed, NiceneCreed or other creedalstatements, affirmingwhat the Churchbelieves and expressingour faith. Creeds give usthe opportunity to saywhat we believe aboutGod and what God hasdone in history. Ourstatements of faithshould be a reflection ofthe deep commitmentof our lives.

PRESENTATION OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS Rev. Schaaf ANTHEM: The Tree of Life K. Lee Scott

Chancel ChoirThere in God’s garden stands the tree of Wisdom, Whose leaves hold forth the healing of thenations: Tree of all knowledge, tree of all compassion, Tree of all beauty. Its name is Jesus, name

that says, “Our Savior!” There on its branches see the scars of suffering; See there thetendrils of our human selfhood Feed on its lifeblood. Thorns not its own are tangled inits foliage; Our greed has starved it; our despite has choked it. Yet, look! It lives! Its griefhas not destroyed it Nor fire consumed it. See how its branches reach to us in welcome;Hear what the Voice says, “Come to me, ye weary! Give me your sickness; give me allyour sorrow; I will give blessing.” This is my ending; this my resurrection; Into yourhands, Lord, I commit my spirit. This have I searched for; now I can possess it. Thisground in holy. All heaven in singing, “Thanks to Christ whose passion offers in mercyhealing, strength, and pardon. Peoples and nation, take it; take it freely!” Amen! MyMaster!
