Grief– is an intense emotion from a loss, disaster, or misfortune.

Intensity of Grief– Low-Grief Deatha death caused by prolonged sickness or anticipated death showing little emotion after death due to experienced grief prior to death

Intensity of Grief– High-Grief Deathunexpected death where grieving process may be more emotional and longer because no preparation for death was done

Five Stages of Grief– DenialThis stage is a healthy response to a stressful situation, and it act as a temporary buffer to help protect individual. “This can’t be happening to me”

Five Stages of Grief– AngerAfter denial you become angry, resentful, and hostile. Anger may be directed to love ones and expressed through shouting, complaining, and bitterness. “Why is this happening to me”

Five Stages of Grief– BargainingThis stage typically occurs throughout the dying process. Before a loss, it seems like you will do anything if only your loved one would be spared, you bargain to prolong life.

Five Stages of Grief– DepressionThis depressive stage feels as though it will last forever. It is important to understand that this depression is not a sign of mental illness. It is the appropriate response of great loss.

Five Stages of Grief– AcceptanceThis stage is about accepting the reality that our loved one is physically gone and recognizing that this new reality is the permanent reality.

Mental Illness/Disorder– Acceptanceis an emotional disturbance, which affects the way an individual thinks, feels, and behaves making it difficult to live a normal life. It may be organic or functional.

Types of Mental Disorder– Organic mental disorder are due to physical injuries and illness affecting the brain.

Types of Mental Disorder– Functional mental disordercan be due to environmental conditions or poor coping skills.

Causes of Mental Disorder– Life situations and experiencesthese include insecurities in early life like broken homes, loss of loved one, marital problems, financial difficulties, unemployment, and others

Causes of Mental Disorder– Physical conditionsthese include fever, intoxication from alcohol or drugs, trauma like head injuries, senility, and disturbance of the endocrine glands.
