Dear Nature Lover,

The BNHS established as Bombay Natural History Society in 1883, is today

India's foremost non-governmental organization concerned with natural history

and conservation of nature.

It has a strong presence in the areas of field research, conservation projects,

advocacy, environment education, nature trails and camps, environmental

assessment, natural history collection and library.

We work together with individuals, groups and corporates in a variety of ways

that can add value to both.

To conserve nature for a better tomorrow, for a better world for our children,

we appeal to you to patronize our thematic range of Cards, Calendars, Diary,

Publications, Mugs and T-shirts. Each product has stunning images of India's

natural flora and fauna.

You can make a significant difference in the lives of the present and future

generations by supporting BNHS Products, becoming a member, making

donations (which are tax exempt) or sponsoring some of our educational and

research activities.

The resources that we generate through all our activities are used to protect our

natural environment through research, conservation and education.

Dr. Deepak Apte

Director

Our MissionConservation of nature, primarily biological diversity, through action based on research, education and public awareness.

ABOUT US

The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) is one of the oldest natural history

societies in the world. We are a membership-driven organization dedicated to the

conservation of the biodiversity in India.

Started in 1883, we have grown leaps and bounds to cover every nook and corner

of the country, effecting significant changes especially for threatened species and

their habitats. A number of regions across India have been declared protected

areas, thanks to the concerted efforts of our dedicated scientists.

We are a research-based organization with a deep commitment to conservation

advocacy based on sound science. We focus on:

• Studying and conserving threatened and lesser-known species and their habitats.

• Promoting sustainable livelihood

• Bringing nature closer to the public

The study of threatened and lesser-known species such as Great Indian bustard,

Bengal florican, Asian elephant, giant clams, freshwater fishes and bush frogs, and

of landscapes and seascapes covering the length and breadth of the country are

just a few steps in our conservation efforts. The Vulture Programme, spanning over

two decades, is a model to be emulated.

BNHS operates from several centres and field stations across India, playing a crucial

role as a facilitator between government bodies and local communities.
