Methodology:
The researcher administered the descriptive method of research which was
employed through the use of a questionnaire as a tool for gathering data.
The questionnaire was composed of questions trying to identify the cultural
impact of the Paru-Paro Festival to the Dasmarineńos.
Findings of the Study:
The results of the study are as follows:
1. Only 15 % of the total respondents said that they are very aware
of the reason why Paru-Paro Festival is the annual festival of the
city. It is because it aims to trace the metamorphosis of
Dasmariňas, from being a barrio into becoming a city. 65 % of
the respondents said that they are aware of the reason why
Paru-Paro Festival is the annual City Festival of Dasmariňas
while 20% said that they are not aware at all of the reason
behind the celebration of Paru-Paro Festival.
2. To measure the cultural impacts brought by the Paru-Paro
Festival to the Dasmarineňos, the researchers asked the
respondents if they have noticed changes in the following since
the Paru-Paro Festival started in the year 2011.

a. The enthusiasm of the local government in promoting
the festival. 85%
of the respondents said that they have noticed changes in
the enthusiasm
shown by the local city government of Dasmariňas in
promoting the festival
while only 15 % said that they have not noticed any
difference.
b. The way they perceive Dasmariňas as a City. 90% of the
total respondents said that there have been changes in the
way they perceive Dasmariňas as a City since the festival
started while the remaining 10% said that nothing has
changed in how they perceive Dasmariňas as a City even
though the purpose of the festival is to trace the
metamorphosis of Dasmariňas from being a barrio before
into, becoming a city in the year 2009.
c. The increase in number of commercial and business
establishments in

difference in the increase of establishments.
d. The growth of tourism related industries/activities (local

Conclusion
1. Only few of the total respondents asked answered that they are
“very aware” as to why the Paru-Paro Festival is the annual city
festival of Dasmariňas. Based on the findings, the researchers
concluded that the local city government of Dasmariňas is not able
to effectively disseminate the necessary information to inform its
citizens about the purpose being served by the celebration of the
Paru-Paro Festival as the annual city festival of Dasmariňas.
2. When it comes to the enthusiasm shown by the local government of
Dasmariňas, majority of the respondents answered that they are
able to notice some changes since the Paru-Paro Festival started.
But still there were some who answered that they are not able to
notice any changes in the enthusiasm of the government; thus, the
local city government fails to show its full enthusiasm in promoting
the festival to its citizens.
3. There are cultural impacts established by the Paru-Paro Festival to
the Dasmarineňos. There have been changes in the enthusiasm of
the local government in promoting the festival-the way the
respondents perceived Dasmariňas as a city, increase in the
number of commercial establishments in the city, growth in tourism
related activities, and unity of Dasmarineňos in celebrating the
festival. All the changes that happened in the categories mentioned
7
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas
were ranked by majority of the respondents as positive, meaning it
brings something good to the Dasmarineňos themselves and to the
city. However, majority of the respondents answered that although
the Paru-Paro Festival has an impact on some of the categories
concerning their cultural aspect, the festival is not able to establish
an impact on their personal lifestyle.
Recommendations
1. Make the Paru-Paro festival more diverse in terms of age
considering the inclusion of more people who are in the
later years of their lives since there are still people who
are willing to join the celebration of the festival. Make
programs such as karakol for more elderly people in order
for them to give their participation.
2. Make the Paru-Paro festival more diverse in terms of
gender considering the inclusion of women in the
celebration of the festival. Make programs that will give
more female participation for gender-equality purposes.
3. The local city government of Dasmariňas must implement
more ways to effectively disseminate the necessary
information such as the reason why Paru-Paro Festival is
the annual city festival of Dasmariňas. In this way, not
8
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas
only more people would become fully aware as to why this
festival is being promoted and celebrated in the City of
Dasmariňas. More would also be encouraged to
participate and do further to promote this kind of festivity.
4. More activities related to Paru-Paro Festival must be
formulated. And it must be in harmony with the purpose
being served by the festival. In this way, people would
enjoy more the festivity while at the same time, will have
deeper understanding and appreciation of what this
festival is trying to convey every year.
5. The activities in harmony with the festival must not end in
a one-day basis. Businesses related to it must as well be
established mainly with the help of the local city
government and the Dasmarineňos must be actively
involved to it. Businesses such as Paru-Paro themed
furniture and clothing or butterfly sanctuaries can be
implemented by the local city government. It will help in
further promoting the festival not only to its citizens but
also to the people in the neighboring cities. It will also
establish more impact on the cultural aspect of the
Dasmarineňos mainly on their lifestyle. As the study
9
De La Salle University - Dasmariñas
found, majority of the respondents asked answered that
the festival does not have any impact on their lifestyle.
6. To the Dasmarineños, they must also do their part in the
celebration of the festival because all the efforts of the
local government would be for nothing if the people who
are supposed to celebrate it will not be taking part in the
festival’s celebration.
7. To the future researchers, further studies must be
conducted regarding the Paru-Paro Festival to monitor the
steps taken by the local city government in improving the
celebration and impacts brought by the festival.
