This exhibition presents a grouping of images of vernacular and often simple signs and buildings from many different parts of Florida. These images demonstrate Lang's commitment to documenting the signs and symbols used by everyday citizens to make their voice and opinions public. The Southeast Museum of Photography's new Lyonia Gallery presents exhibitions and programs related to the environment, land-use, local history and regional culture in an exhibition space in Volusia County Government's new LYONIA ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER. The museum gallery occupies display space immediately adjacent to the environmental exhibits area of the Center. “Summer Photo Camps ” for children aged eight to 11, and 12 – 15 begin Monday June 14 at the Southeast Museum of Photography. Campers will learn a broad spectrum of photo tips and tricks, as well as have the chance to improve their picture taking skills at any level - no experience is necessary! On the final day of each weekly camp, both kids and their parents are invited to attend our special "It's a Wrap" party, where work that was created during each week will be showcased for everyone to enjoy. Three sessions of camps will be held: June 14 – 17; June 21 – 24; and June 28 – July 1. Camps are held Mondays through Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost for each four-day session is $185 or only $165 if registration is made by April 30. CONTINUING AND COMMUNITY INTEREST EDUCATION July 12 - 30 Daytona Motorsports Summer Academy 2010 Presented by the Center for Community & Professional Education at Daytona State College this summer academy for gifted or high-achieving students in grades eight through 12. During three week-long sessions, students will use race engineering and technology on remote control cars 1/10th the scale of actual race cars. Florida 4-Hour DATA (Drug Alcohol Traffic Awareness ) Course All first time drivers in the State of Florida are required to take the Drug Alcohol Traffic Awareness (DATA) course before applying for their license. By taking this online course, you will learn about how alcohol and other drugs affect your ability to drive, laws and responsibilities, safe driving techniques, and how to increase your awareness on our roadways. This curriculum meets state requirements for basic boater education and includes a final exam approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and recognized by the United States Coast Guard. July 12 - 16, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Jr. Lifeguarding Camp Participants will learn water safety and rescue skills, basic first aid and CPR for infant, child and adult. Aspects of pool, waterpark and ocean lifeguarding will also be covered. The camp includes trips to Daytona Lagoon to shadow waterpark lifeguards and to the beach to learn more about ocean lifesaving and how the beach patrol operates. Campers who successfully complete covered material will receive an American Red Cross Community Water Safety and CPR certificate. Participants should bring bathing suit, towel and dry change of clothes. Camp participants must be pre-registered. Pack a hearty lunch!
