Type: Research Laboratory BuildingClient: North Carolina State University

Roles: Design, project management, construction administration

Description: A 30,000 square foot laboratory facility to support research collaboratives between industry and academia. It is

constructed with a glass and metal curtain wall, brick veneer and structural steel frame. The bay layout provides simple solutions to

up-fitting spaces as new partners join and leave the partnership. Each bay is flanked by shared exhaust shafts that are distinguished

on the exterior to identify the building type.

Trantwood ElementarySchool

Type: SchoolClient: Virginia Beach Public SchoolsRoles: Design, design management, project architecture

Description: A 37,000 square foot addition and modernization to an existing public school. The addition provided new administration cluster, media center, cafetorium and kindergarten class-rooms. The modernization brought all existing facilities to universal design standards that meet the Americans with Disabilities Act. All modernizations and new construction provided building envelope solutions that assist the school to meet or exceed Energy Star ratings for buildings.

Type: Multi Family ResidentialClient: Collins Enterprises, LLC

Roles: Design, design management

Description: An award winning 60 unit residential infill project in the historic Freemason District of Norfolk. Varied brick coursing and colors present a solid backdrop for the tectonic balcony porches. This creates

proportions and details suitable to a human scale and contributes to the pedestrian activity the district is known for. “The buildings facade

is a fresh architectural style respectful of the surrounding structures which are so much a part of Norfolk’s heritage” 2003 Hampton Roads Association for Commercial Real Estate: Award of Excellence for Best

Multi-Family.

WorcesterFirefightersMemorial

Type: CompetitionClient: Private FoundationRoles: Design

Description: An Ideas competition to design a memorial for six Worcester, MA firefighters who lost their lives in service to others. This was the second most tragic event where first responders died within the line of duty. The totems in the water represent the six men, their orientation is to the east facing the fire location. To reach the totems a bridge is provided that passes through a solid mass. This mass suggests the threshold of life and death that the men crossed when they entered a burning warehouse. A grid of leyland cypress trees flank the shoreline; standing in formation to honor the fallen.

Page 8: David Peronnet Portfolio

Type: LiturgicalClient: Trinity Presbyterian Church, Norfolk, VA

Roles: Design, design management, project management, project architecture, discipline coordination / integration

Description: An adaptive reuse of a mid 20th century office building into a 250 seat church. The design includes space for formal and casual assembly, Sunday school class areas and administration. The heavy timber structure and

gabled forms contrast against the orthogonal compo-sition of the original building. Ground face concrete

masonry units, insulated concrete forms and lapped fiber cement siding make up the building envelope. This

assembly provides energy efficiency and distinction from the buildings former identity.

Type: LiturgicalClient: Trinity Presbyterian Church, Norfolk, VARoles: Design, design management, project management, project architecture, discipline coordination / integration

Description: An alternative design to the adaptive reuse proposal presented on the former page. This proposal was conceived to provide all new construction and to meet the revised Federal Emergency Management Agency guidelines for flood prone areas. The identical program was included as in the adaptive reuse solution with the addition of a courtyard that provides daylighting to internal rooms and a play area for children.

Description: A 900 square foot, one bedroom house designed to operate at net zero energy

consumption. An array of photovoltaic panels provides the entire power demand of the house along with a super insulated build-

ing envelope and custom designed “thermal batteries” that temper heating and cooling demands. All the systems provide a com-

fortable environment using universal design principles that promote a simple, smart house

for owners to age in place.

Description: A 950 square foot, one bedroom house designed to operate at net zero energy consumption. The unit was planned as 1 / 6 of a three story multifamily complex. This prototype represents the top floor residence and would provide power via roof integrated photovoltaic panels and a mechanical core to distribute the power and hot water to units below.
