NEW DELHI, Oct 3:

The Union Cabinet is likely toapprove setting up of the anti-profiteering authority under theGoods and Services Tax (GST)regime tomorrow.

Prime Minister NarendraModi-headed Cabinet may alsoapprove creation of the post ofchairman and four technical

members of the authority tomor-row, officials said.

To keep a tab on businessesthat have not passed on to con-sumers the benefit of lower taxrates under the GST regime, theGST Council had approved set-ting up of a five-memberNational Anti—ProfiteeringAuthority.

The authority will have a sun-

set date of two years from the dateon which the chairman assumescharge. The chairman and the fourmembers of the authority have tobe less than 62 years.

The chairman, who would bea secretary level officer, shall bepaid a monthly salary of Rs 2.25lakh plus other allowances andbenefits of similar ranking offi-cers. If a retired officer is selectedas chairman, he will be paid amonthly salary of Rs 2.25 lakhreduced by the amount of pen-sion.

The technical members willbe paid a monthly salary of overRs 2.05 lakh plus allowancesand benefits as applicable to anadditional secretary rank officer.

The officers who are or havebeen commissioner of state taxor central tax or have held equiv-alent post under the excise,Customs or VAT laws will be eli-gible for appointment as techni-cal members in the authority.

The additional director gen-eral in the Directorate General ofSafeguards (DGS) will act assecretary to the anti-profiteeringauthority.

The chairman and membersof the authority will have a termof two years or until they attain

the age of 65 years, whichever isearlier, and shall be eligible forreappointment.

As per the structure of theanti-profiteering mechanism inthe GST regime, complaints oflocal nature will be first sent tothe State-level 'screening com-mittee' while those of nationallevel will be marked for the'Standing Committee'.

If the complaints have merit,the respective committees wouldrefer the cases for further inves-tigation to the DirectorateGeneral of Safeguards (DGS).The DG Safeguards would gen-erally take about three months tocomplete the investigation andsend the report to the anti-profi-teering authority. (PTI)

57 fresh cases of dengue reported Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Oct 3: Fifty-seven fresh cases of dengue were report-ed today in Jammu region, taking the number of people affectedwith this vector-borne disease so far this season to 213.

According to official sources, as on today a total of 1177patients have been tested for dengue out of which 213 cases havebeen found positive and reports of 704 have been found negativewhile result of 256 samples are still awaited. "No death has beenreported due to dengue so far", they added.

Elaborating more, sources said that out of 213 dengue cases,maximum 189 have been reported in Jammu district followed byfive in Doda district, Four each in Rajouri and Udhampur districts,three in Samba and one each has been reported from Poonch andKishtwar districts.

They further revealed that out of these 213 dengue patients, 139were adults (87 males and 52 females) and 74 were children (46males and 28 females).

"So far dengue has not claimed any life in Jammu region andmost of the patients affected with the disease have returned to theirhome after successful treatment in various hospitals", they added.

JAMMU, Oct 3: Miran Sahibpolice under 'OperationSanjeevani' arrested a youth alongwith heroin.

As per police sources, basedon reliable information, a teamfrom Miran Sahib Police Stationlaid a naka at Darsopur and inter-cepted a motorcycle bearing reg-istration number JK02BH-8443.

During checking, policerecovered one gram heroin, oneinsulin syringe, one cigarettelighter, one spoon and rolled cur-rency note of Rs 10 from the pos-session of the rider and arrestedhim.

The arrested youth has beenidentified as Rajat Kumar, son ofSatish Kumar Bhagat, a residentof Darsopur.

A case under FIR Number137/17 under Section 8/21/11NDPS Act has been registered atMiran Sahib Police Station andinvestigation started to ascertainthe source of the consignment.
