JAMMU, Oct 18: IndianInstitute of Architects (IIA),J&K Centre is organizing fourdays Building Materials Expo(BME) from tomorrow at RoyalRetreat Hari Niwas.

This was stated by SL Suri,

Chairman IIA during a pressconference here today. DevinderGupta, Vice Chairman, VikasDubey, treasure, Harbinder PalSingh, secretary, Anil Anand andMaharaj Krishan Sharma, execu-tive members were also present.

Suri said that BME is aunique opportunity for manufac-turers and dealers to display theirmaterials, products and also for

various professional and finan-cial institutions to project theirprogrammes which will helpthem in having direct interactionand discussions among variousprofessionals and buyers/usersvisiting the exhibition.

During the expo, direct mail-ers and professionalsfrom various parts ofthe country engaged inthe field ofArchitecture, interiorand building trade willparticipate, he added.

Besides architects,engineers and officialof Government andPublic SectorUndertaking will alsovisit the expo to see thelatest product and tech-niques, Suri informed.

For participationand space booking, IIA

invite manufacturers, dealers ofbuilding and furnishing material,professional and financial insti-tution to display their productsand exhibit their building tech-niques and concept of interiordesigning, he added.

Stalls are being booked onfirst come first serve basis, hesaid, adding that already 15 stallsare booked and others are inpipeline.

JAMMU, Oct 18: Three-daylong fast observed by the activistsof Jammu Joint StudentsFederation (JJSF) to pay tributes tothe martyred students of 1966 agi-tation namely Gursharan Singh,Brij Mohan, Gulshan Handa andSubash Chander at ShaheediSathal, outside GGM ScienceCollege, concluded today.

The three-day long fast wasobserved by Jatinder Singh, presi-dent JJSF JU Unit, Sandeep Singhand Abhishek Singh.

The fast was ended today asPrincipal GGM Science CollegeSatvinder Singh offered juice tothem.

JJSF activists also performedspecial 'Pooja', during whichSatvinder Singh and staff of GGMScience College paid tributes to themartyrs by offering floral tributes.

3-day international seminar on ‘TheRepublic in Shakespeare’ concludes

JAMMU, Oct 18:Valedictory function of thethree-day International Seminaron the Republic in Shakespeare,jointly organized by theDepartment of English inJammu University and TheShakespeare Association(India), was held today on thecampus.

Prof K B Razdan, key speak-er of the function, delivered thevaledictory address and dwelton various facets of the topic.

Registrar JU, Prof Manoj KDhar, who was chief guest onthe occasion, said thatUniversity of Jammu hasemerged as a hub of academicactivities.

The valedictory function wasaddressed by several resourcepersons who shared their experi-ences and gave their remarks onvarious sessions of the seminar.They included Prof Paul Budraand Dr Anand Prakash.

Over 200 scholars fromIndia and abroad participatedand presented papers in thethree-day Seminar. There were30 Parallel and 7 PlanerySessions. The resource persons

Upliftment of oppressed sections ofsociety Govt's prime duty: BhallaExcelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Oct 18: Ministerfor Housing, Horticulture andCulture, Raman Bhalladescribed Maharishi Valmikijias a great spiritual ambassador,adding that he authored thesacred epic Ramayana, whichsets out the path of ideal and vir-tuous living.

The Minister was addressinga large gathering in connectionwith 'Valmiki Parkat Diwas' cel-ebration function held atValmiki Colony, here today.

Bhalla underlined the com-mitment of the Government forthe overall welfare of theoppressed sections of society inline with the philosophy ofMaharishi Valmiki so as to cre-ate equitable and harmonioussociety. He said that theGovernment has taken variousinitiatives to ameliorate the lotdowntrodden and weaker sec-tion.

The Minister claimed thatthe State Government has beentaking greater care of the peoplebelonging to this oppressed sec-tion of society and thrust hasbeen laid on ensuring high stan-dard of living of these sectionsof society.

Elaborating the steps takenby the Government to preserveand maintain religious places ofhistoric background, Mr. Bhallastated that the special focus hasbeen laid on development of thereligious places associated withgreat gurus and saints.

The Minister said that theCoalition Government was com-mitted to provide all civicamenities to downtrodden peo-ple of the State.

He said that UPAGovernment, headed by Dr.

Manmohan Singh has launchedprestigious MGNREGA schemefor guaranteeing 100-day job tolandless and marginal farmers ofthe rural areas. He said thatunder Indira Awas Yojnascheme, the Government is pro-viding financial assistance toweaker sections for constructionof low cost houses and Rs.9000for toilet units on subsidy.

Bhalla said Government hasprovided Rs 2.75 lakh underBasic Services to Urban PoorState Subject lot for constructionof pacca houses besides basicamenities to slum dwellersunder Rajiv Awas Yojanaincluding pacca units. He calledupon the poor lot to approachthe concerned authorities andavail the benefits of suchschemes.

The Minister informed thatCentre has released Rs. 2.63crore under Rajiv Awas Yojna(RAY) for upgradation andimprovement of basic amenitiesin slum basties of the State,adding that in this regard thenecessary instructions have beenissued to the concerned execut-ing agency for taking up the nec-essary developmental works atthese basties.

The Minister said underBSUP, Rs 19 crore one-roomaccommodation flat includingtoilet and kitchen facilities arenearing completion at Sunjwanfor poor urban lot of city, addingthat the accommodation wouldbe provided to them after formalinauguration shortly.

Later, the Minister also paidobeisance in the temple ofMaharishi Valmiki ji at ValmikiColony in Gandhi Nagar andprayed for peace and prosperityof the State. JWAM holds anti Pak protest

The protest led to disrup-tion of vehicular traffic forhalf an hour and the protest-ers flayed the Congress UPAGovernment for hiding thefactual position from the peo-ple of the country and burnteffigies and flags of thePakistan and Prime MinisterNawaz Sharief for his doublespeak for the aiding and abet-ting terrorism in the State.

Singh said that the persistentPakistani mis-adventures on theBorders in violation of CeaseFire Agreemant (CFA) should bean eye-opener for the IndianGovernment which has beenthrough pursuing a submissiveand meek approach despite thehighly pernicious onslaughts ofPakistan.

He lamented that a steephike had been recorded in terror-ist related fatalities during 2013with Pakistan refusing to mendits ways despite high level meet-ings between the premiers of thetwo countries. Condemning thePakistan aggression, as an act of

war, he called for appropriateand adequate response to thismost reprehensible act.

Harshdev Singh furtherasserted that Indian leadershiphad projected itself in very poorand helpless state in the past alsoby its failure to prevail uponPakistan to bring to book theculprits responsible for murder-ous attack on Sarbjit, ChamelSingh and others after January2013.
