LEFKOSIA (NICOSIA) WALKSGet to know the capital by walkingWithin the framework of wider efforts to get foreign visitors better acquainted with the old city within the walls, the Lefkosia (Nicosia) Municipality from 1987 established a series of thematic walking tours. These tours have been reorganised to present various new aspects of the old city as well as the city outside the walls. A city like Lefkosia (Nicosia) with its 5000 yearlong history has much to offer. By walking, one gets a better feel for a place and its yearlong atmosphere, then and now, and a better understanding of its continual cultural development. This is the philosophy upon which these walking tours of Lefkosia (Nicosia) are based.

1. Germasogeia - A Village Blessed by WaterThis tour aims to take visitors to the peaceful, picturesque village of Germasogeia 15 minutes away from the beach, to stroll through its narrow streets, see its special architecture, visit its churches, and feel the village life. Water has always been the most important element in the development of Germasogeia. It is bounded by the sea in the south and on its north it has as a physical boundary, the water dam of Germasogeia fed by the river Amathos coming from the mountains of Troodos. The tour also includes a visit to the water dam of Germasogeia.

2. Discover the Natural Environment of GermasogeiaThis tour aims to discover the nature of Germasogeia. The idea is to walk away from the village to the serene surroundings of the area and enjoy a relaxing stroll wandering the hills of Germasogeia. The participants of the tour will enjoy a ride in the old Bedford bus, which drives partly through an earthen road. They will walk (there is some up hill walking) for more than half an hour along the nature trail of the area off Phinicaria laid out by the Forestry Department and enjoy the magnificent view of the water dam and river. In the winter colourful flowers and shrubs cover the valley. The herbs and wild flowers and tree blossoms give a variety of colours and scents.

PAFOS WALKEvery ThursdaySTROLLING AROUND PAFOS TOWN CENTRE (KTIMA)In an effort to get visitors acquainted with Pafos Town Centre (Ktima), which is the newest part of the city of Pafos as opposed to New Pafos, the ancient Hellenistic and Roman Capital of Cyprus, the Municipality of Pafos would like to invite everyone to visit Pafos Town Centre (Ktima) and get to know this part of Pafos, incorrectly considered as merely a shopping area. The walking tour Strolling around Pafos Town Centre (Ktima) aims to provide an overall picture of Pafos and how Pafos

Town Centre evolved and developed from the late Byzantine and Medieval times to what as it was called until recently Κtima. The Pafos Town Centre (Ktima) is associated with the local everyday life of the population. For the Pafians though, Pafos Town Centre (Ktima) has so much more to it….Through historic references, linked with some very important historic phases including Medieval, Ottoman, British and modern times; one will ‘walk’ into the past but will also get better acquainted with the commercial centre of Pafos. The walk is led by a licensed CTO qualified guide. It lasts about two and a half hours, including a half-hour break for refreshments.
