• In continuation of the earlier presentation, some more examples of developments that have taken place across the globe in bringing in the pedestrians and non-motorised transport amidst the city centres

• Here too, a predominantly Americanised, or should we say, a pro-motor approach aimed at fast movement of vehicles was soon replaced by traffic free zones. Pedestrians were given more area in the city centres than the lifeless motors. Bicycles are encouraged and parking facilities are provided.

• Europe has very few flyovers, whilst USA is full of them. And how many have we created and willing to create in Bangalore?

• Panjim, is a good example to emulate as the city has wide walkways that are neatly tiled and covered with trees.

The once traffic-filled street between Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery is now a thriving plaza.

The plan is aimed at nothing less than making London a "zero emission city“, with CO2 reduction targets of 30 percent by 2025, and 60 percent by 2050.

Shanghai Is Back on the Bicycle Bandwagon

SHANGHAI is making efforts to prove that the title of "kingdom of bicycles" still fits the world's most populous country, even in the car age.

The city is renovating a 300-kilometer network of "cycling arteries," covering at least 60 percent of local roads open to cyclists, and plans to separate bicycles from motorbikes and scooters in some busy areas.
