Let us walk and pedal as much…

• In continuation of the earlier presentation, some more examples of developments that have taken place across the globe in bringing in the pedestrians and non-motorised transport amidst the city centres

• Here too, a predominantly Americanised, or should we say, a pro-motor approach aimed at fast movement of vehicles was soon replaced by traffic free zones. Pedestrians were given more area in the city centres than the lifeless motors. Bicycles are encouraged and parking facilities are provided.

• Europe has very few flyovers, whilst USA is full of them. And how many have we created and willing to create in Bangalore?

• Panjim, is a good example to emulate as the city has wide walkways that are neatly tiled and covered with trees.

The once traffic-filled street between Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery is now a thriving plaza.

The plan is aimed at nothing less than making London a "zero emission city“, with CO2 reduction targets of 30 percent by 2025, and 60 percent by 2050.

…our own Dufferins early in the morning

London’s Trafalgar Square Goes Green… Literally.

A once traffic-heavy part of Trafalgar Square, now open only to pedestrians, just received a green, grassy face lift from London's city government.

Could Mysore’s Clock Tower and the Dufferins Clock Tower Squares go green?

When Streets Are for People

U.S. urban centers large and small are following Latin American cities in periodically shutting off streets to cars, and they are reaping the benefits.

Wide ped crossing at market places a must

We often squeeze past the oncoming person at most of our crossings on Sayyaji R R, of course with our bag loads

Shanghai Is Back on the Bicycle Bandwagon

SHANGHAI is making efforts to prove that the title of "kingdom of bicycles" still fits the world's most populous country, even in the car age.

The city is renovating a 300-kilometer network of "cycling arteries," covering at least 60 percent of local roads open to cyclists, and plans to separate bicycles from motorbikes and scooters in some busy areas.

Paris Embraces Plan to Become City of Bikes

The Socialist mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoe, has the same aim, said his aide, Jean-Luc Dumesnil: "We think it could change Paris's image -- make it quieter, less polluted, with a nicer atmosphere, a better way of life."

…Mysore too can handle this!
