CWP  -‐  DESIGNING  WOOD

CWP Coloured Wood Products is focused on the environmentally friendly production of through-dyed birch veneer, reconstituted veneer and laminated blanks for the furniture, fixture and interior design markets.

Other types of wood also respond well to colouring, such as beech, ash, maple and oak.

The various thicknesses and manufacturing methods of the veneer allow the material to be used in a wide variety of applications. The innovative and durable material makes a suitable surface material for parquet, interior wall, acoustic board, furniture, fixtures, interior doors and ceilings.

CWP continuously develops its processes and technologies in order to achieve the best results.

CWP material enables us to offer something new and sustainable. To design colour combinations that no one else can offer. To stand out in a positive way.

WOOD IS THE MOST ECOLOGICAL

Ecological and sustainable building creates wellbeing for generations to come.

WOOD STORES CARBON

As it grows, wood binds carbon dioxide from the air. Products made from wood act as carbon storage as the carbon stays in the products throughout their lifecycle.

GENUINE, HEALTHY WOOD

Wood is a natural material. It gives off heat and creates a softening effect in different kinds of spaces. Wood cut from well-managed forests brings tidings of joy from the forest to its beholder.

NATURE  COMES  FIRST

We at CWP want to participate in the protection of nature. All of our products are maid mainly from Finnish birch veneer, but other types of wood can also be coloured.

Veneer used as a raw material for products is PEFC or FSC certified. The wood selected for the products comes from a verified source. The birch is sourced from sustainably managed forests.

The materials and methods used for manufacturing through-dyed veneer are environmentally friendly.

Materials and products made from through-dyed veneer can be used for replacing endangered wood types from rainforests or developing countries, such as the brown merbau or blackish wenge. Thanks to through-dyeing, wood can also be given the tone the customer needs in an ecological way.

Customers can enjoy products made from through-dyed veneer for as long as possible. The colour penetrates through the entire thickness of the material, and the surface can be renewed by sanding without loss of colour.

Through-dyed veneer allows for a longer end product lifetime, thereby putting less of a burden on the environment.

CWP  PRODUCTS

Dyed veneers and colouring service

Through-dyed veneer can be used on its own as a surface veneer or to provide accent colours in decor and furniture, for instance. CWP also uses through-dyeing to give the desired colour to its own veneer or the customer’s veneer. Woods which respond well to colouring include birch, beech, ash, oak and maple.

Reconstituted veneer

Manufactured by gluing1.5 mm veneers into planks with the desired colour combination and by cutting these into veneers with a thickness between 0.35 and 1.0 mm. The veneer is compliant with the EN 717-1 standard for formaldehyde emissions of wood products.

Laminated blanks

Individual dyed veneers are laminated into blanks. The dimensions of a standard plank are 850 * 270 * 60 mm. Colours and dimensions can also be specified according to the customer’s needs.

CWP  COLOURS  AND  STRUCTURES

NATURAL  AND  RECONSTITUTED  VENEER

Colours are a good starting point when designing wood products. Birch is a very lightly coloured material which allows the colours of through-dyeing to clearly show through. Beech, ash and maple also respond well to colouring. The colours used by CWP are environmentally friendly. They do not affect the other characteristics of the wood.

CWP has created a series of ready-made colour families to help with creating the design. CWP provides colours from stock and on order *. However, colour is an individual choice. Customers can also create their own colour combinations by varying the colours of the veneer layers. Customers can also further increase the individuality of their colours by buying a combination that cannot be found anywhere else.

Different surface treatments on the veneer can be used to create different atmospheres – waxing, lacquering or high-gloss lacquering gives the space a rustic, modern or luxury feel.

Curved plywood

Reconstituted veneer is ideally suitable for products, which need bending. CWP can produce veneer with a width of 500 mm - veneers do not require seaming, leading to significant savings in material costs.

In three -dimensional products a fleece backing may also be used with the veneer.

The thinnest veneers (e.g. 0.35 mm) allow light to shine through if desired and can be used in light fixtures, for example.

How it worksWe use through-dyeing to give the desired colour to our own veneer or the customer’s veneer. Woods which respond well to colouring include birch, beech, ash, oak and maple.

Raw materialPeeled birch veneer 1.5 mm. Veneer is PEFC or FSC certified.

Surface treatmentAll agents available on the market are suitable for surface treatment. Testing the effects of the surface treatment material on the tone of the colour is recommended.

UV permanenceGood on surface‐treated product. With certain colours, the natural shade of the birch may show through. Testing is recommended depending on the area of application.

Manufacturing method of reconstituted veneerThe product is manufactured by gluing 1.5 mm veneers in the desired colour combination into planks and slicing it into 0.35 – 1.0 mm veneers. Complies with the EN 717-1 standard.

Curved plywoodReconstituted veneer 0.6 mm is ideally suitable for products, which need bending. In three -dimensional products a fleece backing may also be used with the reconstituted veneer.

CWP  RECONSTITUTED    THROUGH-‐DYED  VENEER  -‐  TECHNICAL  INFORMATION

Genuine wood - an easily renewable surfaceCWP’s reconstituted veneer is genuine wood, which has the feel and workability of wood. Because the entire thickness of the wood material has been dyed through, it can be sanded and surface finished several times without losing the original colour.

Manufactures - gluing, frame board, counter veneerAll adhesives available on the market are suitable for gluing. Testing of the spreading volume of the adhesive and the compression pressure is recommended depending on the area of application. Any material that is suitable for use with wood may be used as frame board (MDF, chipboard, batten board, flame-retardant versions of these, plywood, etc.). The counter veneer should be the same product or another natural veneer of a corresponding thickness.
