Future Coalition Federated Mission Network (FCMN) Since 2008, CWIX has been actively involved in C4ISR interoperability testing with capabilities that have or are planned to reside on the AMN. With continued coordination from the Coalition Interoperability Assurance and Validation (CIAV) Working Group, CWIX is looking to expand Joint Fires testing with NATO and the Alliance. Cyber Defence Support the enhancement of NATO's overall cyber defence effectiveness by encouraging Nations and NATO Agencies to submit capabilities. Missile Defence In accordance with the Lisbon Summit, Missile Defence is likely to have a robust presence. Multiple missile defence related commands have expressed a desire to participate in testing. Additional Distributed CWIX Testing CWIX is exploring the possibility of ad hoc testing during the year to support specific focus area testing or support to the AMN CIAV working group. The ultimate goal is to provide a 24/7 capability. NATO Architecture Framework CWIX is linking the past testing results to the NATO architecture framework by mapping results to the Transformation C3 Classification Taxonomy. This will enable capabilities and associated test results to connect to the NATO architecture. Logistics/Movement & Transportation/Medical Building upon the successes in 2011, 6 or more Nations and NATO Agencies want to test in these areas. The ultimate goal is to test with Land Command and Control Systems. Civilian Military Interaction Expand the use of unclassified/internet networks to support greater coordination within the Civilian Military Community. Joint Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance (JISR) Plan is to test the interoperability between ISR and C2 capabilities using NATO Standardisation Agreements (STANAGS). The Coalition Warrior Interoperability eXploration, eXperimentation, eXamination, eXercise (CWIX) is an annual NATO Military Committee approved event designed to bring about continuous improvement in interoperability for the Alliance. Allied Command Transformation (ACT) provides direction and management to the programme, while NATO and Partner nations sponsor interoperability capabilities with specific objectives defined by ACT and National Leads. The CWIX programme focuses primarily on testing and improving the interoperability of NATO and national C2 capabilities, with particular emphasis on those that would be deployed within a Combined Joint Task Force or NATO Response Force. In addition to bilateral technical testing, CWIX provides a venue to conduct technical testing of fielded, developmental and experimental capabilities in the context of a coalition scenario. CWIX runs concurrently with several national venues, which share a common testing network. CWIX supports a broad audience of operators, technicians, and technology planners by providing a multi-functional environment: Ø Scientists eXploration of emerging interoperability standards and solutions through collaborative innovation activities. Ø Engineers eXperimentation with new interoperability solutions and assess suitability for near term implementation. Ø Testers eXamination of interoperability among fielded and soon to be fielded capabilities and generate scorecards. Ø Operational users eXercise interoperability capabilities using a relevant scenario. Planning The planning cycle begins each year with an Exercise Specification Conference (ESC). The ESC is an executive level meeting which sets the framework for the event year. The 2012 ESC takes place in Copenhagen, DNK from 20 - 22 Sep 2011. Three planning conferences follow the CWIX ESC Meeting. These planning conferences are open to all CWIX participants and serve as a way to coordinate interoperability eXploration, eXperimentation, eXamination, eXercise at CWIX Execution. Achievements

CWIX has compiled an impressive list of achievements over the years and is emerging as the interoperability testing event that encompasses all facets of a capability life cycle.

The below list is just a sampling of the notable achievements of the past years.

2011 ª Geospatial testing consisting of 7 nations

provided a single entry point to the Geospatial datasets and meteorological data through webservices based on open international standards. This testing validated the NATO Bi-SC Recognized Environmental Picture (REP) concept that could be implemented within the AMN.ªReal-time operational data was introduced in the

CWIX network. Live civilian convoy feeds from the Afghanistan Theatre along with Automatic Identification System (AIS) maritime feeds were used to provide a realistic operational environment and augment testing.ªACT sponsored the involvement of NC3A

developed logistics and medical prototype software tools to test the automated data transfer from national systems to the NATO prototypes and then to the JCOP.ªNATO HQ Message Text Format (MTF)

Capability Team was present for the first time. In depth and focused analysis of MTF use has provided valuable feedback to the trial teams to allow for the identification of problem areas to enhance and quicken problem rectification.

2010ª CWIX has become the major test event for

Tactical Data Link due to the large number of capabilities and the diverse testing of protocols such as Link 1, 11, 16, 22 NFFI IP1/IP2 and OS-OTG.
