CAIR/UP Artificial Intelligence and Society Symposium Series 2018- Prof Ruttkamp-Bloem started a symposium series with the aim of establishing interdisciplinary networks among permanent academic staff and postgraduate students working on AI research at the Universities of Pretoria, Johannesburg, Witwatersrand, North West, St Augustine and Monash. Invitations go to all universities in South Africa however, and all are welcome. The first two symposia in the series took place at the University of Pretoria in 2018. The third in the series took place at the University of Johannesburg in March 2019 and was co-organised by Samuel Segun from the University of Johannesburg. The 4th symposium will take place in October 2019 and will be sponsored by Standard Bank. IXth Conference of the Spanish Society for Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science, Madrid, 2018 Member Scientific Committee The Semantics of Theories, Ludwig Maximilian University, Munich, 2016 Member of Programme Committee Forum for AI Research 2016 Prof Ruttkamp-Bloem was co-organiser of the 2016 Annual Forum for Artificial Intelligence Research under the hospices of the Meraka Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research, which will take place at the University of Stellenbosch in November 2016. I organised the keynote speaker, Roland Pöllinger (Munich Centre for Mathematical Philosophy). South African Philosophy of Science and Logic Colloquium 2010 - Prof Ruttkamp-Bloem has been organising an international annual/bi-annual Philosophy of Science Colloquium since 2010. (See a review of the 2011 colloquium in The Reasoner, Volume 5(2) February 2011at http://www.thereasoner.org/.) Intention: To promote philosophy of science (and logic) in South Africa. Format:

• From 2015, the colloquium is held over 2 days, with a day devoted to philosophy of science contributions and a day devoted to formal logic contributions.

o In agreement with the Association of Symbolic Logic (ASL) the additional day focused on formal logic remains from 2016 as part of the colloquium with the ASL’s participation, with the eye on future consolidation and active encouragement of research in logic in Africa.

New thinking about Scientific Realism Conference 5-9 August 2014 Cape Town, South Africa Prof Ruttkamp-Bloem organised a five day international conference in August 2014 focused on issues in scientific realism which included invited speakers with international standing. The aim of the conference was to reconsider and re-evaluate the status quo of debates about scientific realism and to investigate, articulate and open up the possibilities for realising promises of new directions of thought about scientific realism. Format of the conference: Our keynote speaker was Anjan Chakravartty from the University of Notre Dame. Contributed Sessions & Invited Speakers: Session 1: General Scientific Realism - Michael Devitt (City University of New York) Session 2: Truth, Progress, Success and Scientific Realism - Ilkka Niiniluoto (University of Helsinki) Session 3: Selective Realisms Session 4: The Semantic View and Scientific Realism – Steven French (University of Leeds) Session 5: Scientific Realism and the Social Sciences - Uskali Mäki (University of Helsinki) Session 6: Anti-Realism A unique feature of our programme: Symposia between leading international scientists and conference participants.

Dynamic Naturalised Neo-Realism 2016 - In order to define an epistemic neo-realism, Prof Ruttkamp-Bloem is working on an 'epistemic theory of reference' which is a time-indexed causal descriptivist theory activated by a specific application of epistemic logic. She is also exploring belief revision as a possible mechanism with which to represent scientific reasoning. Recent research activities:

• Current research: o Ruttkamp-Bloem, E.B. A Dynamic Naturalised Neo-Realism as an Active Epistemology of Science

Epistemic Justice in Health 2014 – (lapsed at present) This is a project in collaboration with members of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research at the CSIR. Past collaborators include Samir Chopra (Philosophy, City University of New York), Deshen Moodley (Computer Science, University of Kwa-Zulu Natal), Giovanni Casini (Philosophy, University of Pretoria & Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research, CSIR), Tommie Meyer (Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research, CSIR & University of Cape Town, Steve Reid (Health Sciences, University of Cape Town), and Chris Seebregts from Jembi Health, a not-for-profit company in the health sector, based in Cape Town. Naturalised Realism 2009-2015 Naturalised realism is focused on reflecting on the processes of science to inform epistemic stances towards scientific theories instead of focusing on the products of science as typically happens in traditional realist contexts. Model-theoretic Realism 1996-2006 Model-theoretic realism endeavours to use the best of the syntactic and semantic accounts of the structure of scientific theories in order to make the most of what Tarski's account of truth-in-a-structure promises scientific realists. 2.7 RESEARCH PROFILES Google Scholar profile: http://tinyurl.com/kljstp8 PhilPapers profile: https://philpapers.org/profile/282634 Academia.edu profile: https://up-za.academia.edu/EmmaRuttkampBloem Research Gate profile: https://tinyurl.com/ycrvup8q OCHID ID: 0000-0003-0299-6406 2.8 MEMBERSHIP IN NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL BODIES Member of COMEST (World Commission for the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology) 2020-2024 MemberofUNESCOAdHocExpertGrouponethicsofAI2020MemberofAfricanUnionAUDA-NEPAD High Level ExpertGrouponAI2019-2020 Elected corresponding member of the International Academy for the Philosophy of Science in August 2019 (http://www.lesacademies.net/en/) Member of the European Network for Philosophy of the Social sciences (ENPOSS) 2016- Alternate South African Representative at the IUHPS (International Union of History and Philosophy of Science) 2015 - Member of the European Philosophy of Science Association (EPSA) 2011- 2018 Member of the American Philosophy of Science Association, (PSA) 2010- 2018 Member of the Philosophical Society of Southern Africa (PSSA) 1995 -
