June 2010 – present (3 years), contract with CMCC (Centro Euro-Mediterraneo per i Cambiamenti Climatici; Lecce –

Italy) within the ERC project “AFRICA GHG - analysis of plant biomass and soil samples for the radiocarbon content”.

Scientific direction: Prof. R. Valentini. Main activities: Chemical pretreatment, combustion and graphitization of wood

samples for radiocarbon analysis with AMS (work performed at CIRCE – Caserta, Italy).

March – May 2010 (2 months), contract with Dendrodata s.a.s. Scientific direction: Dr. O. Pignatelli. Main activities:

Chemical pretreatment, combustion and graphitization of wood samples for radiocarbon analysis with AMS (work

August 2009 – February 2010 (7 months), contract with Second University of Naples, department of Environmental

dendrochronological curves with wiggle-matching AMS (work performed at CIRCE – Caserta, Italy).

preparation for Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry; III) Tree-ring project about the dating of dendrochronological curves

with wiggle-matching.

December 2004 – May 2005 (6 months), contract with IID (Italian Institute of Dendrochronology, Verona – Italy).

Scientific direction: Prof. L. Fasani. Main activities: I) Dendrochronological analysis of archaeological, historic and

modern wood; II) Macroscopic identification of botanic wood species; III) Sample cataloguing of the Institute

xylotheque.

TRAINING

April 2012 (1 month), stage at CEZA (Curt-Engelhorn-Zentrum Archäometrie, Mannheim – Germany), in the

framework of the PhD course. Scientific direction: Dr. B. Kromer. Main activities: I) Pre-treatment of wooden samples

for radiocarbon dating with AMS; II) Calibration of radiocarbon dating.

April – July 2011 (3 months), stage at Landesamt für Denkmalpflege (Hemmenhofen – Germany), in the framework of

the PhD course. Scientific direction: Dr. A. Billamboz. Main activities: I) Dendrochronological analysis of

archaeological wood (dating of the wood and identification of the construction phases of the settlements); II) Sampling

of cores from living trees in the forest; III) Wood species identification of archaeological deteriorated wooden materials.

November – December 2008 (6 weeks), stage at Landesamt für Denkmalpflege (Hemmenhofen – Germany). Scientific

direction: Dr. A. Billamboz. Main activities: I) Dating of the wood and the context finding; II) Paleo-environmental

reconstruction; III) Reconstruction of the forest resource management of ancient populations.

October – May 2007 (2 weeks), stage at the University of Salento, Lecce, department of Cultural Heritage (Italy).

Scientific direction: Prof. G. Fiorentino. Main activities: Wood anatomy studying and microscopic identification of

charred wooden materials.

February – April 2007 (3 months), stage at Dendrodata s.a.s. (Verona – Italy) and CNFB (National Centre for the Study

and Conservation of Forest Biodiversity, Mantova – Italy). Scientific direction: Dr. O. Pignatelli and F. Mason. Main

activities: I) Forestry studying; II) Tree coring for dendrochronological analysis; III) Sample stereomicroscopic

analysis; IV) Dendrochronological analysis of archaeological and modern woods.
