Monday, the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother finally revealed the mystery contained in its title.

Creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas say they knew the plot for the final episode when the series premiered nine years ago.

The series has been a solid if not spectacular performer for CBS, and its average of 9.8 million viewers this season means it will likely be its most-watched ever.

weekend: Robin and Barney's wedding, where Tracy was the bass player in the wedding band.

The final episode skips through several years, where we learn that the marriage of Robin and Barney (played by Cobie Smulders and Neil Patrick Harris) splits up because of her success as a television correspondent.

Ted and Tracy get married after a long engagement and the kids, but she gets sick and dies, a development that many fans speculated upon in recent weeks because of a foreshadowing in an earlier episode.

The earthquake that rumbled off northern Chile on Tuesday night is a bracing reminder of the country’s vulnerability to seismic activity.  

As of Wednesday afternoon, official reports said six people died in the magnitude-8.2 quake, which was expected to unleash a tsunami that has largely failed to emerge.

Tuesday’s event is the most significant seismic activity in the region since a magnitude-8.8 quake and ensuing tsunami in central Chile in 2010 killed more than 500 people, destroyed 220,000 homes and produced an estimated $30 billion in damage.

national strategy to improve the ability of buildings to withstand quakes. It developed a seismic design code for new buildings, and homes and offices are now constructed to sway with seismic waves rather than try to resist them.

Experts say it’s largely due to the fortitude of the country’s buildings that the 2010 earthquake did not have anywhere near the casualty count of Haiti, where a lower-magnitude quake (7.0) that same year led to a significantly higher death count (an estimated 220,000).

Since 2010, the country has installed a more comprehensive tsunami warning system, with sirens set up in coastal areas. The sirens consist of a control panel and a battery backup, and can be sounded by the Chilean navy whenever it identifies a significant tsunami risk.

initially reported the quake at 8.0, but later upgraded the magnitude of the quake that struck 99 kilometres northwest of Iquique. More than 20 significant aftershocks followed, including one of magnitude 6.2.

The quake was so strong that the shaking experienced in Bolivia's capital, Sucre, about 470 kilometres away was the equivalent of a 4.5-magnitude tremor, authorities there said.

after an Iraq War veteran being treated for mental illness opened fire at Fort Hood and then turned the gun on himself at the same Texas military base where more than a dozen people were killed in a 2009 shooting, authorities said. 

Officials at the Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas, where the victims were taken after being processed at a hospital on base, said Thursday that the eight male victims and one female victim are current military personnel ranging in age from 21 to the mid-40s. 

A total of 16 people were wounded in the shooting.
