Women and Child Development Ministry to move proposal to amend POCSOAct
Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 – for enhancing
punishment in cases of sexual assault against young boys, will be sent to the Cabinet in
two-three days by Women and Child Development (WCD) Ministry. As per this Act, death
penalty will be awarded to those convicted of raping children below 12 years

patients every year. The reason behind such happening is a rare combination of
advanced facilities, skilled doctors, and low cost of treatment. India currently has around
18% of the global medical tourism market. It has been estimated that by 2020, it could
be worth $9 billion, and account for 20% of the global market share.
Government sets up 4-member panel to propose measures on mob violence,lynching
The government has set up a four-member committee headed by Union Home Secretary
Rajiv Gauba to suggest measures and legal framework to effectively deal with incidents
of mob violence and lynching
WCD Ministry launches ‘Childline1098’ contest
The Ministry of Women and Child Development has launched a contest, ‘#Childline1098’
to mark the World Day against Trafficking in Persons on July 30, 2018.
The contest invites people to share images of the Childline 1098 logo that they spot at
unique locations and send it with a tagline.
Rs 1,754.14 crore sanctioned by Union Agriculture Minister Radha MohanSingh under the National Dairy Plan (NDP) to enhance productivity of milchanimals

The Lok Sabha passed the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2018
The Lok Sabha passed the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2018, that seeks
to punish bribe-givers and bribe-takers. The Bill provides for a jail term of three to seven
years, besides a fine, to those convicted of taking bribes and those giving bribes to public
officials. It extends the ambit of public servants who would be protected by sanction from
prosecution.
17 sites in the country to be developed as Iconic Tourist Sites
Ministry of Tourism has identified 17 sites in 12 clusters in the country for development
under Iconic Tourist Sites Development Project, pursuant to Budget Announcements of
2018-19.

Japan passed law to legalise casino gambling
Japan’s parliament has passed the Integrated Resort (IR) bill which will lead to the
opening of the country’s first legal casino. As per the bill, the casinos will be restricted to
three locations in the initial phase. Amid concerns about gambling addiction, the law
limits Japanese citizens to three casino visits per week and 10 per month, and charged
admission of 6000 yen ($53.4) per day.

Iran becomes India’s second largest oil supplier
Iran has overtaken Saudi Arabia to be the second largest supplier of crude oil to Indian
public sector firms during April-June quarter. Iraq remains India’s No:1 supplier of crude.
State firms that buy oil from Iran include Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd
(MRPL), Indian Oil Corp (IOC) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL). New Delhi
shipped in 7.27 million tonnes of oil from Iraq, while shipments from Saudi Arabia
totalled 5.22 million tonnes.

Mumbai to get ‘skyscraper bridge’ connecting Worli to Sewri
This is the first bridge in Mumbai to be built at a height of 32m (the height of a 10-storey
building) and at 4.5-km-long. This bridge costs around 1,500 crore and aims to connect
the Bandra-Worli sea link to the Mumbai trans-harbour line at Sewri. Five agencies- the
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), MMRDA, Maharashtra Housing and Area
Development Authority, Mumbai Port Trust and Slum Rehabilitation Authority- will be
involved in planning and execution. The aim is to complete it by mid-2022.

Goa will end its ban on imported fish on July 31
Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar imposed a 15-day ban on import of fish on July 18
due to the issue of the presence of formalin in fish. The ban is scheduled to end on July
31. Tests made on more than 116 samples drawn from various fish markets across the
State since July 14, indicated that no added formaldehyde was used.

Odisha CM launches Green Mahanadi Mission
A total of two crore saplings will be planted on the banks of the Mahanadi, Tel and Ib
rivers under the Green Mahanadi Mission. Launching the programme by planting saplings
at two locations in Subarnapur and Boudh districts, Mr. Patnaik said that the plantation
drive was being carried out in as many as 1,303 villages spread over 15 districts situated
on both sides of the Mahanadi.

Mobile app ‘Bijli Mitra’ for replacement of transformers in Rajasthan
Farmers in Rajasthan will soon have the ease to get their defunct transformers replaced
within six hours of registering a complaint through a mobile app. he process of replacing
transformers used to consume a lot of time, therefore, the government decided to
introduce mobile app ‘Bijli Mitra’ so that farmers can register their complaint.

Banks and Financial institutions in India signed Pact on Bad Loan ResolutionFramework
22 public sector banks (including India Post Payments Bank), 19 private sector banks, 32
foreign banks and financial institutions like LIC, HUDCO, PFC and REC signed the Inter-
Creditor Agreement (ICA) framework, which is part of project ‘Sashakt’, to take
concerted efforts towards resolving dud loans under Rs. 500 crore.
This Project is proposed by a committee headed by Sunil Mehta (non-executive chairman
of PNB). The new framework is applicable to accounts with exposures of over Rs.2,000
crore where lenders must implement the resolution plan within 180 days.
Lok Sabha passes Negotiable Instruments (Amendment) Bill, 2017
Lok Sabha has passed Negotiable Instruments (Amendment) Bill, 2017 to reduce the
number of cheque dishonour cases pending in courts. The bill amends Negotiable
Instruments Act, 1881 to primarily address issues of dishonor of cheques and deal with
unnecessary delay in disposal of such cases.
Interim compensation:The Bill inserts new Section 143 A in parent Act to allow court
trying offence related to cheque bouncing to direct drawer (person who writes cheque) to
pay interim compensation to complainant. This compensation may be paid under certain
circumstances, including where drawer pleads not guilty of accusation. It will not exceed
20% of cheque amount and will be paid by drawer within 60 days of trial court’s order to
pay such compensation.
Deposit in case of appeal:The Bill inserts another new Section 148-A in the parent act
specifying that if drawer convicted in cheque bouncing case files appeal, appellate court
may direct him to deposit minimum of 20% of fine or compensation awarded by trial
court during conviction. This amount will be in addition to any interim compensation paid
by drawer during earlier trial proceedings.
Returning interim compensation:In case drawer is acquitted during trial or by appellate
court, then court will direct complainant to return interim compensation (or deposit in
case of an appeal case), along with interest. This amount will be repaid within 60 days of
court’s order.

Bajaj Auto Ltd. has appointed Rakesh Sharma as its first Chief Commercial Officer (CCO).
Rajiv Bajaj, Bajaj Auto MD, said that the post of CCO was created to complement the
offices of the Executive Director (ED) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and informed
all heads of departments to report to the CCO.
Analjit Singh appointed non-executive Chairman of Max Financial Services
Max Financial Services has named its sponsor and founding shareholder Analjit Singh as
nonexecutive chairman of the company. Singh said his appointment on the board was in
consultation with current chairman Naina Lal Kidwai.

Swachh Survekshan Grameen launched in UP, Jharkhand and Maharashtra
The Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2018 (SSG 2018) announced by the Ministry of
Drinking Water and Sanitation on July 13 , 2018, was launched by three States this
week.
Under the SSG 2018, an independent survey agency will conduct the survey in all
districts from 1st to 31st August 2018, and the results will be announced in the form of a
ranking of all districts and States on the basis of quantitative and qualitative sanitation
(Swachhata) parameters.

Shotputter Dhanvir, hurdler Vishnu Priya set records in 15th National youthathletics championships

Kerala’s 400m hurdler Vishnu Priya and Punjab’s shot-putter Dhanvir Singh set new meet
records in the 15th National Youth Athletics Championships in Vadodara, Gujarat. In
women’s 400 metres hurdles, Priya, representing Kerala, crossed the finish line with a
season-best time of 1:02.52 seconds and erased the earlier set meet record of 1:02.58
seconds by PO Sanya in Bambolim in 2015.
In Shot Put, Dhanvir threw 19.69m in his fifth attempt and erased the earlier meet
record of 19.34m which was set by Navtejdeep Singh in 2011.
In the 15th National Youth Athletics Championships, Haryana won the overall title with
165 points while Kerala with 150 points finished in the second place.
Olympic Medalists To Now Receive Rs 20,000 Pension Per Month
Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathoreannounced that the rate of pension for
sportspersons who have won medals in international competitions and have retired from
active sports has been doubled from April 1. At present, the government gives lifelong
pension to 588 players under the scheme of ‘Pension to Meritorious Sportspersons.’
According to the revised rates, Olympic and Para Olympic medallists will get a sum of Rs
20,000 per month each,while gold medallists at World Cups and World Championships in
Olympic and Asian Games disciplines will receive Rs 16,000 per month.
World Junior Squash Championships Begins In Chennai
The Men’s team event of the World Junior Squash Championshipshas begun in Chennai,
Tamil Nadu. A total of 24 countries, divided into eight groups, are taking part. India,
placed in Group-E alongside Switzerland and Saudi Arabia, is seeded fifth.
