Principal’s Report Curly’s Got Talent Art Show ‐ a wonderful new initiative for our school!
It was just delightful to be part of the ‘buzz’ at the Creative Space on Abbott Road on Tuesday evening this week for the official Opening Night of our inaugural Curly’s Got Talent Art Show.
The guitar and ukulele orchestra, conducted by Carlos Villanueva, played beautifully in the garden as guests arrived to view a total of 204 stunning art entries (from kindergarten to year 6 students) hanging beautifully in the Creative Art Space. Refreshments were served on the back deck before the night concluded with the official presentation ceremony of the winners in each category.
The artworks were judged by Nic Auton and local artist Fiona Verity. They had an incredibly difficult task and we would like to thank them for their fantastic contribution to the art show. The winners are:
Early Stage 1: 1st place ‐ Eden A. Highly Commended: Grace R, Lennox S and Caleb N. Stage 1: 1st place ‐ Jade A. Highly commended: Dolma T, Leon S and Sasha O. Stage 2: 1st place ‐ Charlie R. Highly commended: Teddy H, Georgie Y and Luke J. Stage 3: 1st place ‐ Kai C. Highly commended: Finley Y, Anya R, Tahn D, Petra J and Ellie C. Teachers: 1st Place ‐ Miss Sheerin Highly Commended: Mrs Connell, Mrs Fay, Mrs Carse, Mrs McCarthy, Mrs Travers
A huge thank you goes to Mrs Lyndel Connell, Ms Bec Sheerin and Mrs Michelle Brady for coordinating and organising this wonderful new initiative. Thank you also to a number of teachers who were in the Creative Space from 6am Monday morning to assist with the hanging of the art work. Mr Ballinger’s time and carpentry skills were much appreciated as well last Friday evening when he spent many hours attaching the right hooks to the backs of the art works in preparation for hanging. Thank you also to the very supportive parents, Erika
Alker, Carol Markram, Dianne O’Brien and Esther Hamburger, who have enabled us to have the art exhibition open every afternoon.
Please see more photos on page 3.

Parents of students in year 3, year 4 and year 5 receiving awards will receive a telephone call from the school if your child is receiving an award.
Schools Spectacular I was fortunate to be in the audience at the Schools Spectacular last Friday. The whole event was truly ‘spectacular’ and I was particularly proud of our girls performing in such a wonderful event.
Congratulations girls for your outstanding dancing, and thank you Mrs Auton for giving the girls the opportunity to be part of such an amazing and prestigious Public Schools NSW event! (Watch it on Channel 7 Saturday 3 December at 7pm.)
Anaphylaxis and nuts As you would be aware there are a number of children at our school who have anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis is the most severe form of allergic reaction and is potentially life threatening.
As tree nuts are one of the most common triggers of anaphylaxis, this is a reminder to all parents to avoid sending nuts or nut products with your children to school please.

Balgowlah Boys’ Campus Bands on Tour
Next week we look forward to two concerts on Wednesday 7 December by the Balgowlah Boys’ Campus Summer Tour Band. Every year the music teachers at Balgowlah Campus take some of their bands on either a Winter or Summer Tour.
Curl Curl North PS have a long association with Balgowlah Campus with many students attending and joining their music program after being involved with our Band Program.
The performances have always been high in energy and thoroughly enjoyed by our students.
On Wednesday 7 December, I am asking for a gold coin donation from every K‐6 student. This money will be used: 1. To provide lunch for the 56 growing young men who will perform the two concerts at our school. 2. To assist our Band Program to purchase new instruments for the Band Program. (We currently have ordered $11 500 worth of new instruments for 2017.)
Year Five Captains’ Elections
Next week Y5 students will be nominating and electing students to captains and vice captains of our school for 2017. I wish all students the best of luck and have every faith in our students, knowing that they will make smart
choices and elect students who will uphold the ‘Curly Code’ and bring credit to our school, themselves, their peers and also their families.
‘Musicale’ – 7 December
Every two years the Band Program organises a night of music at the Freshwater Senior Campus called the ‘Musicale’. We hold it at the Freshwater Senior Campus Performance Auditorium, as we got too big for our school hall due to its popularity.
On the night, the Recorder Band, the Training Band, the Junior Band and Senior Band and the Stage Band will all perform in that order. In addition, there will be some entertainment from individual students and the Geko Orchestra consisting of guitar and Ukulele Curl Curl North players.
Students who attend, are invited to dress in Christmas mufti and parents are encouraged to also attend this fun music night. We will ask for a $5.00 family donation at the door, which will be used to cover costs on the night.
The first performance will be the Recorder Band at 6.30pm and the evening will finish by 8.30pm.
A running order will be available from the office at the beginning of next week.
Band Photos
Band Photos need to be ordered in the next ten days.

Premier’s Reading Challenge 2016 The PRC certificates have been printed and will be going home with your child’s semester 2 report. Congratulations to all those children who have successfully completed the PRC this year. Children who have completed the PRC for the fourth or seventh year will be receiving very special gold and platinum
certificates respectively. A special congratulations to these students.
Premier’s Reading Challenge 2017 (Years 3‐6) The 2017 PRC starts on Christmas morning when your child takes a new book out of their Christmas stocking! In addition, all books read in the holiday period count toward the 2017 PRC. eBooks also count toward the 2017 PRC. I encourage all students to keep a list of their holiday reading and bring it to their first library lesson next year. These books will then be added to their 2017 PRC reading log.
Christmas Appeal We are once again overcome and overwhelmed by the generosity of the families at Curl Curl North PS. The food and toy items donated for this year’s appeal has been extraordinary. We are so lucky to have so many little children with such big hearts. Thank you to everyone who donated this year, it will certainly help to make Christmas a lot happier for families who are struggling.
The library staff would like to wish all the Curly kids and their families a very happy Christmas and also say many thanks for your support of the library programs this year.
Mrs Lisa Turner, Teacher Librarian
