SPECIAL TRIPS

Klein Curaçao and East Point

Every week you can take an adventurous Dive Trip to Klein Curaçao and East Point on one of Ocean Encounters’ large and comfortable custom dive boats. East Point is the first dive site; an unspoiled, lush, and pristine spot, where turtles, rays, large fish, sharks and so much more can be seen.

During surface interval, the boat crosses over to Klein Curaçao for the second dive, “famous for its turtle population”. A light lunch is served on board with enough time for you to explore the island and take picture before your return to Ocean Encounters.

Mushroom Forest

This dive site has been rated as one of the Carib-bean Best Dives. The Majestic Star and Boulder cor-al rise up to form mushroom shaped domes full of underwater life. We reach Mushroom Forest for the first dive around mid-morning. After entering the wa-ter, you dive around large boulder coral formations, where critters hide under the ledge. Don’t forget to look into the blue to see the schools of bar jacks and yellow tails! During the surface interval you can snor-kel into the Blue Room cavern. After the second dive site a light lunch will be served on board.

Sign up for a relaxing afternoon snorkeling trip to Tugboat or Di-rector’s Bay. The boat will pick you up right at the pier at Lions Dive & Beach Resort or Sun-scape. Once on site your snor-kel master will guide you and show you all kinds of different fish, coral and other great ma-rine life around you. The Tug-boat is a little tugboat wreck that sits upright and is easy to see from the surface. The wreck is covered with corals and has lots of marine life around it.

Good swimming skills are required.

Certified Scuba Encounter

Klein Curaçao is a 1.7 km2 (170 ha; 0.66 sq/mi) uninhabited island south-east of Curaçao. The only structures on the island are an old lighthouse, a beach house, and several huts. It’s easy to spot colorful fish and sea turtles when snorkeling by the constant pounding of the waves.

Coral Restoration Foundation Curacao is non-profit organization supported by the Coral Restoration Foundation International and local businesses and schools.

What We Do

The main objectives of this program are the restora-tion of our shallow water reef system, educating the community (the youth in particular) and protecting and preserving Curacao’s natural ecosystem.

The Adopt A Coral (AAC) program is de-signed to engage the community in Curacao coral reef restoration efforts. When donating to Coral Restoration Foundation Curacao (CRFC) as part of AAC, you are directly fund-ing restoration efforts of local Curacao reefs.

With this adoption program you are contributing to produce and maintain coral fragments throughout the entire restoration process, considering the time taken to grow in our nursery to the final out-planting step and the monitoring.

Curaçao is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and includes the main island of Curaçao and the mostly uninhab-ited small island of Klein Curaçao.

The island measures 275 square miles (444km2) and is 38 miles long (61km) and a wide of 3 miles (5km) to a maximum of 8.6 miles (14km). The island has about

Curaçao has a stable climate. The year’s average maximum temperature is 88°F (31.2°C) and minimum temperature is 78°F (25.3°C). Constant trade winds from the east ensure a pleasant breeze over the island.

While Dutch and Papiamento are the official languages, English is widely spoken by the majority of the popula-tion.
