CSI: Meursault
Misunderstood, trapped, and mysterious. The image above embodies these three
conditions, as the man resembles what is the character Meursault in Albert
Camus’s The Stranger. As someone who is amoral and challenges societies beliefs
of right and wrong, Meursault is often misunderstood by society and condemned
due to his beliefs. As his beliefs do not conform to those of the society he lives in,
he is trapped in a place he does not belong. He is perceived by those around him
as unusual and perhaps even a threat to society. It is because of this that he is
discriminated in the novel… trapped and misunderstood.
Meursault is a character that seems somewhat mysterious and in the dark.
Darkness and mystery are the two most prominent features of the image above
and this describes my perception as Meursault. As Meursault lacks emotion it is
often a challenge to interpret his feelings and thoughts, thus, Meursault is indeed
a mystery.
