anberraWelcome to Canberra
Australia’s capital, Canberra, is a city described by The New York Times as having ‘big-sky
beauty, breezy civic pride and a decidedly hipster underbelly’.
While this evolving capital city may be better known as Australia’s political hub, it’s also the place to
discover Australia’s stories through an array of national attractions that hold and tell the nation’s story.
Canberra’s food scene is red hot and its people are laid back. You may need to dig a bit deeper to
uncover the city’s gems but you’ll be rewarded by discovering a thriving local arts scene, a city with
an abundance of outdoor activities, emerging precincts and plenty of family friendly attractions that
both entertain and educate.
You can get up close and personal with a cheetah at the National Zoo and Aquarium or be greeted
by some of the local winemakers and sample the fruits of their labour at a cellar door. This modern
city offers fun for the kids and a busy calendar of events and festivals — like Floriade, Australia’s
celebration of spring, where glorious spring blooms erupt in tune with bright blue skies.
If it’s the great outdoors that you’re after then check out the purpose-built cycling facilities at
Stromlo Forest Park or Canberra’s fantastic cycle path network. Take a self-guided walking tour of the
National Arboretum Canberra to learn about the 94 forests of rare, endangered and symbolic trees
from Australia and around the world. Discover nature and wildlife at Tidbinbilla or Namadgi National
Park right on Canberra’s doorstep.
So what are you waiting for? Delve in and explore the capital.
And if you want a local recommendation, tweet @VisitCanberra using #localscan.

Jamie’s Italian started with the meeting of two unique minds, when
a young Essex chef and an eccentric Italian met in the kitchen of
London’s Neal Street restaurant back in the early 90s. Jamie Oliver and
Gennaro Contaldo bonded while cooking the beautiful Italian food
that had inspired them both since childhood, and the seed of an idea
was planted.
Today, Jamie’s Italian is a popular food destination around the world,
loved for its focus on using local produce in fantastic Italian, rustic
dishes.
Centrally located, in Civic at 125 Bunda Street, within the Canberra
Centre, the restaurant is open seven days a week for lunch and
dinner. Designed by London’s Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, in
association with Australia’s pekvonhartel, Jamie’s Italian Canberra’s
twist on classic Italian features is complemented by subtle
contextual references. An eclectic mix of booths, colourful chairs
and vintage furniture all help towards creating the casual, buzzing
ambience that Jamie’s Italian has become renowned for.
