What Drives YHow hardwork & dedication an impact on me.

    CROSSFIT IMPACT

    1882 Johns Drive

    Glenview, IL 60025

I come from a family of dentists and

physicians, and for a while I assumed

(as did my relatives) that I would fol-

low suit. But when it came time to pick

a career path, medicine wasnt really

calling my name. Then again, neither

was fitness. What I really wanted to do

    was run my own business.

Whether Im mopping the floor, or researching the latest

techniques, Ive always taken great pride in my work. Its

one thing to get the job done, but another thing entirely to

get the job done well. I was raised on hard work and dedi-

cation, but by the time I hit my adult years, I realized: its

all about finding what drives you in my case, my family.

I fell into medical consulting through my mother in fact,

she was my first client. I started the company because I

knew my mothers practice had a need for it, and I wanted

to help her out. She was, and is, a great doctor.

I had been following her tutelage for years, so I

was more than qualified for the job. Eventually

my aunt and brother signed on, followed by a slew

of new clients. My business grew, and with it my

    love for entrepreneurialism.

Running my own company gave me great pleas-

ure, but it was nothing compared to the pleasureI got from helping my family. And while things

seemed to be moving in t ecessarily the genre.

    Then it hit me fitness.

I decided to open CrossFit Impact because it

seemed to be the perfect blend of my two pas-

sions: entrepreneurship and fitness. My coaches

and athletes have since become a second family

How can you kick the pooch and bring on the power

without feeling like youre in an abdominal gulag?

You already know how yoga de-stresses, revitalizes,

and balances your body and mind, but bringing out

your inner pretzel can also twist your core muscles

into shape with outstanding results. Not to mention,

bending like Gumby and Pokey is way more fun than

a hundred crunches. Most importantly, for those of us

sitting a bit more than wed like, professionals agree,

building core strength through yoga helps nurture

posture and build a better back.

How does Yoga do a body good?

Yoga helps to enhance total body

    interconnectedness; plug-

    ging your core into your

    whole musculoskeletal

    system. Its one thing

    to have rockin abs,

    but its a whole other

bag of tricks to get that

    sleek, lean, and powerful core

strength. The efficacy of yoga in this has

even been embraced by the Mayo

Clinic, which recommends several core exercises

    that are basic yoga poses.

Since the yogis of the eastern hemisphere view the

abdominal area as the seat of great physical and

energetic power, special attention is paid to your

belly as the epicenter of each pose. That focus

delves deeper than just the superficial abdominal

muscles; after all, there is more to your core than

a six pack. Poses such as Utpluthih (yup, thats a

word), Navasana, or just a simple plank help to

make your core the envy of the gods!

If youre feeling shy about being on a mat in front

of a dozen or so strangers, awesome resources are

to be found on the net. Kino MacGregor, for instance,

breaks down core-centric practice in an easy to

follow YouTube series (added bonus: its totally

free). Her tutelage emphasizes the fitness aspects

of yoga - and she is but one of literally thousandsadvertising their expertise to the viewing public.

Unfortunately, finding qualified instruction is a bit

hit and miss, so be sure to proceed with caution.

On Friday, a man dressed as Spider-Man allegedly

made off with $6,000 from a tour operator on Hol-

lywood Boulevard, a place known to attract various

costumed people who usually pose for pictures in

    exchange for tips.

As a result, Los Angeles Police officers have been

detaining various men dressed as Spidey for ques-

tioning. So far, none have been identified as the thief.

Apparently Spider-man swung into action when hesaw an employee of Starline Tours walking away from

the companys Hollywood Blvd. location and helped

himself to a paper bag filled with the cash. I mean,

obviously because what else would a pretend

    super hero do?

Meanwhile, other people who dress up as superhe-

roes including Superman, Batman and Catwoman

have promised to keep their eyes out on the Walk

of Fame in hopes of capturing the rogue Spider-Man,

But just so you know, this isnt the first time a super-

hero on Hollywood Blvd. turned out to be a super

    villain.

In February, 2012, a woman dressed up as Catwoman

got into a literal cat fight with an Ozzy Osbourne

impersonator. She reportedly pepper sprayed thefake Ozzy and a Jack Sparrow character.

Its been said that healthy eating is 90%

preparation and 10% inspiration. Is that not a

saying? Well, now it is! Seriously though, once

you are hungry, you are going to grab what is

convenient. Here is a guide on how to have some

foolproof options at work so the take out menu

doesnt start calling your name come 11:00.

    Eating

    healthy

    cup uncooked quinoa

    cup uncooked black rice

    2 large eggs

    1 cup Vidalia onions, finely

    chopped

    1 cup dairy-free shredded

    mozzarella cheese3 garlic cloves, minced

    cup fresh basil, finely chopped

    1/3 cup grape tomatoes, diced

    tsp. sea salt

    tsp. freshly ground pepper

    1 tsp. chili powder

    2 chives, finely chopped,

    for garnish

    2 cups of homemade

    tomato sauce, for serving

    1. Cook quinoa and rice according to package

directions. Prepare muffin pan with nonstick

    baking spray.

    2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

    3. In a large bowl, combine cooked quinoa and rice

with remaining ingredients, except chives and

pasta sauce; mix well to combine.

    4. Transfer quinoa and rice mixture to prepared

muffin pan. Using a tablespoon, fill each muffin

cup to the top, then using a spatula, press down

on the mixture to create a flat surface.

    5. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove from oven; set aside to cool for 15 minutes.

Using a teaspoon, gently remove rice and quinoa

    snacks from the muffin cups.

    6. Transfer to a serving platter; serve with a sprinkle of

fresh chives and a side of tomato sauce for dipping.

How is this not a bigger thing?

At the beginning of the week,

you throw in some salad dress-

ing (always goes at the bottom),some sturdy veggies or add-ons

    (Im thinking shredded carrots,

hard boiled eggs and some ham),

put your lettuce on top and seal

your jar. You can make a few at

the beginning of the week and it

should keep fresh for 5 days! Have

fun making the different salads thatdelight your taste buds but Ive

    heard that tomatoes and cucumber

tend to get mushy so save those

    for just before.

    Spider Man Can Weave.

Making burritos for dinner tonight? Throw a few in foil and freeze them to

keep at work! How about chicken? Make some extra and put it in a Ziploc

to add to your salad or some pasta. Snack Stash

Make sure you have a stash of

    healthy snacks like instant oatmeal,

Greek yogurt, some of those frozen

    burritos, meal-replacement bars,

    string cheese, low-fat popcorn and

fruit canned in its own juice.

    Prepare Veggies

Prepare veggies to snack on ahead

of time I like to buy the petite

cut baby carrots and split a 1lb bag

between a few Ziplocs so they areperfect snack size! Broccoli, string

    beans, cauliflower (unless it would

do things to your bowels that would

leave your coworkers angry at you!)

and zucchini can all be sliced and

prepped the same way. This should

leave you satisfied with a crunchy

snack and not wanting to hit the

    vending machines!

    Eat your Breakfast!

Start your day better- having breakfast first thing, whether its a protein

shake, eggs and sausage, or cereal- breakfast before heading out will

make sure you dont feel starved by the time your good senses leave

you. It also boosts metabolism and brain power, so its a win-win!
