    (1) Our first presenter is Patrick McCulloch. Patrick is the friendly voice you have come to know when you call CRM AddOn U.S. He is our sales and marketing manager and has been with CRM Add ON US since its inception. He has an MBA and a Bachelors Degree in Marketing with Minor in Finance. Patrick will give an overview of Dial IT and what is required to use the AddOn.

    (2) We are pleased to have Ben Meredith, ACT! Certified Consutlant, today as our second presenter. With more than 20 years experience working with ACT!, he will provide some wonderful first hand experience using Dial IT.

    (3) And last, but not least, Ingo Lange will be providing us with an in depth demonstration of Dial IT. We are fortunate to have Ingo with us here in States hes currently working with Computime updating existing addons, developing new products and creating new ways to make ACT! work better.

  • What You Need- Running Dial IT for ACT!

    ACT! for Web (client)

    Phone with TAPI driver or Skype

    At least 1.5G of RAM

    ACT! 2005 - 2009

    Id like to being today by reviewing what you will need to run Dial IT.

    (1-11) Dial IT can work with ACT! version 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009

    (12) It also has the ability to work with ACT! for Web (on the client)

    (13) It does require a phone that is TAPI compliant well discuss what TAPI is and whether or not you have it, in just a minute. Dial IT will also work for SKYPE users.

    (14) As with most of our AddOns we recommend having at least 1.5 G of RAM to comfortably run Dial IT.

  • What is TAPI?TAPI - Telephony Application Programming Interface Developed jointly by AT&T and Microsoft Provides computer telephony integration running Microsoft WindowsInterface for dialing and disconnectingPhone system hardware provider provides driver

    Patrick(1) TAPI is an acronym for Telephony Application Program Interface it is a standard program interface that lets you and your computer "talk" over a telephone line or some other type of phone-connected.(2) It was developed jointly by AT&T and Microsoft for the Microsoft Operating Systems(3) Using TAPI through Microsoft, you are able to advantage of different telephone systems(4) It is important to remember that TAPI is what provides the dialing application Dial IT is simply taking advantage of this application and working within ACT!(5) Each phone system hardware provider provides a specific software driver that interfaces directly with the hardware and computer.

    Its helpful to think of the TAPI driver as any driver that must be installed on your computer to make a peripheral piece of hardware work like a printer. Each time you buy a new printer, you need to install that printers specific driver. When using Dial IT, its no different. Each phone hardware has its own specific driver that needs to be installed.

    Sowhat does all of that mean?

    This is a simple diagram showing how Dial IT works with ACT! and how TAPI integrates with the hardware.

    (1) You always start off with either ACT! or (2) ACT! for Web

    (3) Dial IT works within ACT! or ACT! for Web

    Here is were you make your decision between (4) a TAPI driver or (5) Skype

    If you choose to use the TAPI driver it will work between Dial IT and the (6) telephone hardware

    If you choose to use SKYPE, (7) you will use a headset to integrate between skype and Dial IT

    A TAPI interface can be used with both a single, one part link. (1) The switchboard or network is connected to the phone, (2) the phone is connected to the computer through the TAPI driver and then the computer has ACT! and dial it, ready to use.

    It can also be installed on a server level, to be used by multiple workstations through a network. (1) The Switchboard is still connected to the phones and (2) the TAPI server is connected individually to each workstation.

    Now comes the big question

    How do you know if you have a TAPI phone?

    The simplest way is to call your phone service provider and ask them. Theyll know right away if you are currently set up and ready to use TAPI.

    If you are TAPI ready, all that is needed is to (3) install the driver and configure the settings to your workstation.

    (4) If you are not set up for TAPI its not the end of the world.

    You have a few options (5) you may need to set up an upgrade to your phone system or you can explore the SKYPE option. Skype offers a great alternative to TAPI.

    Now that we know how Dial IT operates and what you need to make it work, the next big question is Why Do you Need IT.

    (1) Dial IT will (2) Identify incoming calls (3) Display a pop-up window with caller/ contact information (4) Use your PBX or switchboard to identify and record external and internal calls (5) Display a secondary contacts information as part of the Call Contact pop-up window if it has been associated with the primary contact.

    (7) What will Dial IT do to make youre days more efficient? (8) It has the ability to Create a Scheduled Call Lists (9) Automatically clear activities (10) Even allows you to Create activities for unanswered incoming calls

    (12) How will it improve my daily workflow? (13) Dial IT does this by giving you the option of sending it directly to your PDA if you have wireless synchronization (i.e. Blackberry handheld) or (14) Schedule Activities with a single mouse click and if that Activity is scheduled on a weekend Dial IT will prompt you for a confirmation and give you the option to reschedule for the next business day.
