This project is designed to help young girls enhance their experience of their stress-

relieving activity. The main problem is that many young girls, in their teens and

early twenties go through a lot of stress. We underestimate the amount of harm

stress does to us, ‘some teenage girls cut [themselves] because it helps relieve feel-

ings of depression, anxiety, or other emotions’ . The goal of this project is to help

girls relieve stress from their overwhelming lives. Especially girls that live in big

urban cities such as Hong Kong, New York, Tokyo and London, we are pressured

from every area of our lives: academic, social, extracurricular, and appearance. As

a girl, I feel that I have to work extra hard and give more effort to everything that I

do compare to males in order to achieve the same amount of recognition due to the

society’s sexist view towards females. The endless amount of work, responsibilities,

and future goals that we have add up to extremely great amounts of stress for us. I

hope that many other young girls like me can relieve stress in a more enjoyable way

through using a collection of functional and decorative lifestyle products that I am

going to design.

There are a few products in the market that introduces stress relief, but none is

designed especially for young girls. Although some products are widely used, yet

it lacks the intimacy of truly soothing and relaxing them. I will investigate on the

materials, pattern, color and design of the line of products. As a further exploration,

I will also look at the different sensations that young girls unconsciously desire

through; smell, see and feel, and incorporate them into the products to help intensify

the result of de-stressing. There are 3 areas that I will base the products on; sleeping,

listening to music and taking bubble baths as they are the most commonly per-

formed activities when girls want to relief stress. The products will be simple to use

to lessen the burden for them; therefore anyone from any age can use it.

Slippers:

1. Cotton slippers are for the simple life. Cotton slippers are comfortable, inexpensive, easier to clean than other materials, and available in a wide range of styles, designs, and colors. If you're looking for bunny or cow slippers,or slippers that bear the logo of your favorite sports franchise, you're going to be shopping for cotton slippers.

2. Suede slippers provide comfort and casual sophistication whether you're wearing them around the house or on a Saturday morning jaunt to the grocery store. Suede slippers can be worn year round, but you should avoid wearing them outside during damp or rainy weather. Because suede is manufactured from the less-prized interior split of a leather hide, suede slippers won't be as expensive as full-grain leather slippers, but they'll still require particular care when you're cleaning them. Pick up a suede cleaning kit when you buy your suede slippers and you should be fine.

3. Leather- When Oscar Wilde said that cultivated leisure is the aim of man, he must have been wearing leather slippers. Leather is a natural material for slippers, as both become more comfortable as they age. As your leather slippers mature, they will soften and conform to your foot, providing the most natural fit possible. To make sure your leather slippers last, remember to use proper cleaning techniques. Treating your leather slippers regularly with a good leather conditioner is also recommended to prevent the leather from drying or cracking.

4. Sheepskin- The unique combination of leather skin and wool fur is what gives sheepskin its appeal. Sheepskin and slippers are an ideal combination, providing warmth, comfort, strength, and beauty for your feet. Sheepskin slippers are frequently designed in a rural or outdoor boot style, and may feature a wool cuff that you can roll up or down for extra warmth as needed.

Types of slippers:

• Slip on slippers- open toe • Novelty slippers • Sandal slippers • Moccasins- leather slippers with cotton inside, used for outdoors • Closed slippers- closed toe • Soft sole/ soft sided slippers • Ugg slippers • Slipper socks- used on the bed to keep feet warm, thick but soft and fluffy

Flexible polyurethane foam (FPF). Polyurethane is the result of the chemistry of two primary materials used to make polyurethane products - methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and toluene diisocyanate (TDI). MDI and TDI are known to be stable in the environment. When disposed, they have not shown any adverse impact on municipal waste handling processes, landfills or incineration.

Materials for sleeping products:

Pajamas:

Cotton

1. The advantages of cotton sleepwear are numerous. Cotton is inexpensive and versatile. Cotton pajamas are lightweight, warm, soft, and breathable, qualities perfectly suited to the purpose of pajamas. Cotton provides a naturally textured visual appearance that makes even nightgowns and sleep shirts look stylish.

Cotton sateen

2. Cotton sateen is a very soft and luxurious fabric. The weaving technique used to make cotton sateen places most of the threads on the surface of the sheeting, yielding a sleek, satin-like finish. This process gives cotton sateen pajamas the comfort of cotton with a heightened sense of style.

Polyester

3. Polyester was once a cheap and uncomfortable material, but today's polyester micro fibers and polyester blends rival for comfort. Still, the greatest advantages of polyester men's pajamas or women's pajamas are their strength and durability. Polyester nightgowns are warm and wrinkle-resistant, a great choice for curling up on cold winter nights.

Silk

4. No other pajama material can match the luxuriousness of silk. Silk pajamas feel loose and flowing, a joy to sink into after a long day at work. Silk is the leading material choice of men and women who value beauty and quality, even in their pajamas. Silk pajamas will cost a little more than other materials, but they also offer unmatched comfort and endurance.

Flannel

5. If warmth is what you want from your sleepwear, flannel pajamas are the classic choice. Flannel is a wool-based fabric, which means maximum warmth. Flannel pajamas are often made from a combination of wool with cotton or synthetic materials. Flannel also wears well, which is why flannel kid's pajamas or adult pajamas become even cozier with age.
