 May 2012 For immediate release Creative showcase of student success Final year Creative Technologies students at Leeds Metropolitan University are set to celebrate as their degree projects are showcased. The event will take place from 2-4pm on Monday 21 May in the Jubilee Room at the University’s Headingley campus, giving the public and industry experts the perfect opportunity to view the studentsinnovative work. This year’s projects - by BSc (Hons) Games Design, BSc (Hons) Multimedia Technology and BSc (Hons) Computer Animation and Special Effects undergraduates, include graphics and web applications, games running on iOS, Android, PC and MAC platforms and animated short films. Matt Burnill, a BSc (Hons) Games Design student has created the game Jade’s Ransom for his final year project with fellow students Christian Harris, Adam Findlay and Richard Ullah. The game will be published on the Apple App Store and Android Play Market next week. Matt commented: “Jade’s Ransom is a clever game that will make the player think and strategise by taking away the all-guns-blazing approach to modern action-adventure titles, with timing and strategy key to completing the levels. Players must us e their skills to navigate in third person through the levels, solving puzzles and ultimately completing the adventure to reunite the heroine with her son. BSc (Hons) Games Design students Rachael Wilson, James Smithson and Steve Chambers have developed a smartphone game called Barrel Busters.

Creative showcase of student success

Final year Creative Technologies students at Leeds Metropolitan University

are set to celebrate as their degree projects are showcased.

The event will take place from 2-4pm on Monday 21 May in the Jubilee Room

at the University’s Headingley campus, giving the public and industry experts

the perfect opportunity to view the students’ innovative work.

This year’s projects - by BSc (Hons) Games Design, BSc (Hons) Multimedia

Technology and BSc (Hons) Computer Animation and Special Effects

undergraduates, include graphics and web applications, games running on

iOS, Android, PC and MAC platforms and animated short films.

Matt Burnill, a BSc (Hons) Games Design student has created the game

Rachael, said: “In the current market physics based games are king, with the

likes of Angry Birds and Cut the Rope topping the app store charts. With the

recent release of Draw Something which was a huge success we have

created a game that unites the best of these games. Barrel Busters is a

casual puzzle game, with 2d graphics. It’s a cross-platform application

available to be played on an Android, iOS or web player. It is suitable for all

types of gamers and our target audience are smartphone owners aged 15-

30.” 

Following the public showcase their will be a VIP reception for the students

and their friends and families.

Bal Singh, BSc (Hons) Games Design Course Leader at Leeds Metropolitan,

commented: “Our students have worked extremely hard to produce high

quality projects and we are proud to showcase their work.”
