METAPHOR OF THE CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS

LET THERE BE LIGHT (FIAT LUX)

Author: Carlos Rivas Rojas/ 12 August, 2014/Lima-Perú

Page 2: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

In the religious tradition, God created the world and the phrase "Fiat Lux" (Let there be light) is associated with this momentous event.

In the contemporary world, the demand for more goods and services, the increasing number and complexity of needs requires all organizations to be as creative as a deity, only unlike God that created the universe, they should act without pause, so their universe or their "business environment", don´t be destroyed or return to chaos and disappear with thr firm itself.

Page 3: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

The adequate supply of goods and services to the new demand can not result from an immediate and mechanical reaction and, but from a creative, slow process, sometimes costly, timely and permanent. The delayed reaction does not work, the reaction does take into account only demand last as reference is ultimately useless and a waste of time and other resources.

Reactive organizations have little space in this scenario, the advantage belongs to preactive or proactive organizations.

STEP 1. VIEWING THE PROBLEM OR NEED

1

Page 6: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

There is a problem when a need is unmet, therefore it´s necessary to create a product or service demanded by customers, something that the company can not meet right now . If you sell statistical software, for example, ¿does it have capacities for Analytical or process large amounts of data in "the cloud”?

In a company, the ability to identify the problem and offer the solution is vital for competitiveness and continuity in the market. Can this software upgrade? Remember KODAK

Page 7: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

Positive (benefits) and responsiveness should be assessed when deciding to tackle the problem as well as negative consequences (losses) for the organization when it has the will or capacity to such a response.

We suggest a survey regarding the ability of competitors to provide or update the product or service. Who is the fastest in the race?

Page 8: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

STEP 2 SEARCHING FOR INFORMATION

2

Page 9: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

The search must be permanent from various sources regarding our products or services, and which relate directly or indirectly to them.

The bond or relationship, sometimes ignored or not provided, among other goods and services shows a reality that forces you to be more creative, more versatile

Our product or service is just not enough to satisfy the consumer at this time

Page 10: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

If the product or service a company is unique, with greater reason, creativity and constant alertness is required.

There will always be someone waiting for the opportunity to build on the success, technology, know-how and created to imitate, improve and eventually become a competitor. Which is resting on its laurels, wakes up and faces a nightmare. He is no longer alone in the market.

Page 11: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

The first search on internal sources or resources themselves directly accessible external sources; only is a perfectible form and an initial overview. It is impossible to have all data and complete information at hand, you better have something to start; everything is completed or perfected while advancing o seraching the solution of the problem

Who expects complete information and data only shows incompetence, lack of vision, passivity Antonio Machado: "Wanderer, there is no path, paths are made by walking"

Page 12: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

STEP 3. INITIAL SOLUTION

3

Page 13: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

The initial design of the product or service, the outline of the key features, the model or prototype is made. No matter what the format or medium, the alternatives must be taken into account, although they are seemingly nonsensical or irrelevant.

At the end there are no bad ideas, just ideas that do not conform to a specific problem; required but if you have a good initial design.

Page 14: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

Lateral thinking is useful, we must explore solutions from improbable angles that reveal the essence of this problem.

Avoid saturation or obsession with a solution, it is good truly think about other things, apparently not linked to our problem

The subconscious will identify what is relevant to our case; only needs material to search and anything to find.

Page 15: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

STEP 4. USE OF CATALYSTS

4

Page 16: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

A catalyst is a substance that is present in a chemical reaction in physical contact with the reactants, and accelerates, induces or promotes this reaction without acting on it.

A substance that makes it faster or slower the speed of a chemical reaction without participating in it.

He also figuratively referred to people or things that fuel and give impetus to something, or that attract and grouped forces, ideas or feelings

Page 17: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

Other media such as music, drawing even if you are not a professional artist help to explore the domain of the creative unconscious, thinking about issues that may be unrelated to the problem.

If you know play an instrument, do it, if you can draw or paint, I also do; if you can not play music or draw, listen to the best music of your choice, review art catalogs, stroll through a museum or look on the Internet where it reaches all world museums.

Read good fiction stories, comics, everything is useful

STEP 5. MORE INFO

5

Page 19: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

Further reading on the problem and related sources in other languages helps to release ideas, to find unexpected relationships issues. Reading topics like poetry reduce unproductive mental stress, create a state of creative euphoria (activated right hemisphere of the brain). Read your favorite books These activities are equivalent additional exercises that allow the athlete to be prepared for competition. And in a way, you are in competition: win who come first to market with a product or service that consumers expect

Page 20: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

The new data models (Big data, cloud) help to better understand the market dynamics, trends, create conditions of competitive advantage, the advance of competitors.

Now we have to continually stay one step ahead as competitive advantages are precarious, unstable, temporary, because change continuously market conditions.

You need to have customer information for important details (they want, how they want, where, when). The location of customers is important, because now they do not come to the company, the firm should look for, identify and approach them

Page 21: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

STEP 6. MATURATION

6

Page 22: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

The aging of good wines is equivalent to leaving the brain to process the original idea and use the information available. It leaves aside the issue completely, forget and do other things, is useful if activities are catalysts of imagination are also performed. Let cobwebs settle on the idea (as in bottles wine cellar).

After the appropriate time, you will have achieved a clear, well-defined, coherent and feasible idea.

Page 23: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

Roughly, the ripening process seeks to validate as many of these assumptions, and when necessary helps make adjustments or improvements to the product or service idea.

It is recommended to "mature the idea before the plunge", ie, although the first picture or sketch look perfect, keep in mind that not yet know all the facts or data relating to consumers at the time (step 3)

Page 24: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

STEP 7. EPIPHANY AND ACTION

7

Page 25: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

Epiphany means appearance, manifestation or phenomenon, and comes from the Greek epiphaneia. In the religious sense, liturgy of the Catholic Church, it is a manifestation or divine revelation.

In the philosophical sense is a deep sense of fulfillment in the sense of understanding the essence of things.

Is all that can be in the heart of things or people, ie, finding that now feels as if everything is resolved, solved, complete and previously very difficult to achieve.

Page 26: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

In more practical and broadly illustrated sense, epiphany can be a thought, an inspiration that seems to be a thing of God, and that only He would think of such a thing. The British use the term: "I just had an epiphany" indicating that they have had an indescribable thought, unique. What do you feel if you just found the solution to your problem market, if is well defined the service or product that consumers need?

Page 27: CREATIVE PROCESS IN SEVEN STEPS - METAPHOR OF CREATION

God rested on the seventh day, you will at the eighth step, when you notice that the left behind competitors, when you expand your market, when you has created or renewed competitive advantage and profit curve in time moves forward the northeast .
