One of the best things about visual and creativestudies is seeing other people’s reaction to yourwork. To help you showcase your talents, the topfloor of our Art & Design facility opens out toprovide a gorgeous gallery space where ourstudents hold their end of year show.

Performance students can take advantage of ourfully licensed entertainment venue, the HexagonTheatre, to stage professional performances andexperience the thrill of being on stage as well asthe functional skills in planning, staging andchoreographing a public performance.

And our Graphics, Film & TV and GamesDevelopment students use our MAC or PC suites to show off their talents digitally or in the virtual world.

NEW MEDIA DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY /FOUNDATION DEGREE LEVEL 4Covering areas such as i-media production,computer graphics, creative & technicaldevelopment, Java script for interactive design,contextual studies, programming with action scriptand interactive production authoring, you’lldevelop a hybrid of design and technical skills foruse within interactive environments such as gamesdesign and web development. This qualification canbe ‘topped up’ to a full BA (Hons) degree with anadditional 1 or 2 years study at the University ofCentral Lancashire.

LET THEM EAT CAKE!Our Visual and Creative Studies students stage anannual show to demonstrate their talent and flairfor performance! This year’s extravaganza entitled‘Let Them Eat Cake’ took place in February andincluded live music performances, digital art, shortfilms and music videos as well as a catwalk showwith a difference! The fashion items, created by Art& Design students, were modelled by dancers onstage bringing the show to a fabulous climax.

MAKING AN EXHIBITION OF THEMSELVESOur students make the most of every opportunityto showcase their work, and rightly so. First yearNational Diploma Art & Design students exhibiteddrawings at the Ashton Memorial, Williamson’sPark, throughout December and January. Thedrawings were developed from the students’individual research on art movements andcontemporary drawing techniques. The range ofindividual responses to the brief resulted in adiverse exhibition which was well received by the public.

NEW RECORDING STUDIO

A brand new recording studio has been created in LMC's HexagonTheatre. This exciting new development will allow students studyingMusic to create professional quality digital recordings, and also givethem the experience in sound engineering and editing techniquesrequired to succeed in this competitive industry.

At the heart of the studio is a brand new Toft 32 channel analoguemixing desk; the recording takes place digitally on an Apple Mac Proequipped with Pro Tools - the most advanced recording and editingsoftware on the market at this time which is favoured by largeorganisations such as the BBC. There are a host of pro microphonesavailable including the Neumann TLM103 and AKG 414s as well asother associated recording equipment, compressors and effects units.

FIGHTING CRIMEFilm & TV Students have been working with the police to produceshort films for young people to target community safety issues,individual films were produced for dangerous driving, knife crime,drinking and fire safety. Local police communications co-ordinatorDerek Quinn commented on the quality of the students’ work; “Wewere looking for unique films that would get stark messages acrossin a way that would grab young people’s attention and possiblyinfluence behaviour in a format that young people are used to andthis is exactly what we got. The students have been first-class andtheir ideas have been an inspiration.''

STUDENTS TO PILOT ENERCITIES VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENTGames Development students will have theopportunity to take over the world in a newEuropean project, ENERCITIES. Using a virtualworld platform such as those demonstrated bypopular games SimCity and Travian, ENERCITIES will focus on the environmentalimpact of developments.

ENERCITIES is funded by the EU’s IntelligentEnergy for Europe Programme and will develop agame-based learning platform where young peoplethroughout Europe can experience energy-relatedimplications while developing their own virtual world.
