Moving SECA Forward

Since the establishment of this great school, it has lacked the basic necessities to fairly

provide for its students. Our party has seen how much work needs to be done to better provide

for the students. We know what it takes to ensure that the students are in an environment where

they feel happy, comfortable and safe. Our Party is designed to address the concerns of the

students. We Perrys take the initiative to go out and make this campus a better place.

This is a very important election because it’s not only a fight for who wins the

presidential seat, but a fight for SECA’s path. We Perrys offer this school a way to move forward

by providing the basic necessities of the students and more. A few of the necessities includes

serving students better lunch, making sure that there are school activities going on, and

promoting recycling which will better the surroundings of our campus and help the environment.

We acknowledge that there is a lot that needs to be done and that it doesn’t just take one

term of presidency to get everything done. Problems we face as a school will be addressed under

the government we are promoting. Our party will make sure that we are up to date with issues

and that we are aware of concerns the students of the school may have. We will conduct polls as

often as we can and personally approach the students of the school.

We believe that if we band together we can make this the greatest school anyone has ever

attended and heard of. We can do anything for as long as we work together. We can make the

changes for a better tomorrow.

We Perrys will play fair and square in this election. Our goal is to keep moving forward

and to address any issues the students may have. Our goal is to ensure that issues are addressed

properly and solutions are presented. We all need a government that can provide for the people.

We need a government that can advocate for fairness, equality and change. We need the Perry

Party to come into power. We plan to move SECA forward by finding solutions for the pressing

issues of the school.

Advocate for Better School Lunches

A survey has been conducted and it has come to our party’s attention that the lunch

provided by the school is non-appetizing. It is often burnt as well and looks inedible. The Perry

Party plans to create a partnership with organizations that advocates for better school lunches


that still meets the nutritional guidelines. We Perrys will fundraise to allocate enough money to

move forward with a partnership.

In the case that the partnership fails we will ensure that we have enough in our

funds to provide for the students for the entire year out of our own pockets. In order to collect the

money, our candidate will pull out money from his own pockets. We will also advertise this issue

and make sure we grab sponsors as well. The sponsors will become major contributors for our

project, which is the betterment of school lunches.

Increase School Activities for the Students

Addressing the lack of activities on campus is a main concern for many. To address this

pressing issue we will design a plan to make sure that we have an event going on every month.

We will set up rallies and events that invokes class competition to see who’s the best. We will

raise money for these events through fundraising as well. Penny wars would actually be a

fundraising we will hold and in turn it will promote the competition between classes. Upon

raising enough money, the Party will promote the events and hopefully gain enough support to

make the events happen.

Promote Recycling For the Betterment of the Campus

Our party understands the lack of recycling on campus and instead of everything being

thrown in the thrash our party will start a recycling program. We care for the environment and

we believe that a recycling program will give us an opportunity to show that we really do care.

We believe that students shouldn’t just throw bottles and other recyclable items in the trash. We

Perrys will address this issue and promote it for the understanding of the students. We will make


sure that our advertisement and tweets gives enough details on this issue. We are eco-friendly

and we advocate for keeping nature balance. Recycling is only a start of it.

During debates and assemblies we will make sure our candidate fully answer questions in

regards to any of the issues we are focusing on.

Campaign Manager (Jorelyn Calam)

As campaign manager I was simply in charge of making sure that the group got things

organized and finished the project. I also became in charge of compiling the information each of

our group members collected into a powerpoint. I ended up adding information for some of the

briefs just to make sure that we covered everything. I also tried to go through each of the briefs

to ensure that the information provided was accurate. I pulled much information from the briefs

and compiled it to make the party platform. I did help out in anyway I could with the group.

Though the assignment seemed a bit confusing, we ended up just going with what we thought

was right.

Step One - Political Advisor Brief (Karen Alvarado-Contreras)

The main job of a political advisor is to “develop campaign strategies and help candidates

refine their messages to prospective voters,” (Hall) (Edwards III, Wattenberg, & Lineberry,

Government in America: People, Politics, and Policy, 2011). The candidate for our campaign

will be selected through direct primaries. Direct primaries are when voters go to the polls to

“express their preference for a party’s nominee,” (Edwards III, Wattenberg, & Lineberry,

Government in America: People, Politics, and Policy, 2011). The methods and limits for raising


funds for our political party and candidate’s campaign will be through hard money so that

individuals, including interest groups, will not try to win over our candidates’ political agenda.

Hard money, unlike soft money, has a $2,500 limit of how much an individual can contribute.

Soft money is a way for individuals to donate money to the political party without having a limit

(Edwards III, Wattenberg, & Lineberry, Government in America: People, Politics, and Policy,

2011). Because we will be using the hard money and the soft money method, we will be

accepting any kind of public funding. Public funding is money we can use it to benefit our

candidate towards tours to promote the party platform and to gain more support. Our party plans

to make this a clean campaign so that which every candidate wins, wins fairly and for the right

purposes, not because the other candidates were always being attacked on policies they never

accomplished or never put into practice. Our campaign will be ran by touring around the campus

and giving speeches to students so they can understand that our main priority is to make this

school a better place to be at. We will do so by explaining our solutions to the school issues.

Since our main concern have to deal with problems students have to deal with everyday, students

will have something to identify with, giving our candidate more chances to win. Important issues

that this party focuses on is providing better lunches, creating more school activities, and to

Step Two - Treasurer/Fundraiser

The treasurer’s main purpose for the campaign is to manage the funds for campaign. For

this assignment I became responsible for finding out how much the campaign would costs the

candidate of our party and finding ways to raise money for the campaign. As a treasurer I am in

charge of making sure I have the list of donors and ensuring that everything in this campaign is

done in a legal. The average amount for a well ran campaign is indefinite. The amount spent by

each candidate since the 2004 election exceeds $300 million. In the 2004 election, Bush raised

345.2 million dollars, while Obama raised around $750 million in the 2008 election for his

campaign (Amazon , 2007). We estimate that the average cost for running in a well presidential

election is about $500 million.

Developed Strategy (Expecting to raise 650 million dollars):

Early Fundraising (starting 24 plus months ahead of time). Plans to have a fundraiser chairperson

and team, which paves way for a more efficient way to work and focus on bringing in funds for

the campaign. Assign areas for fundraising in greater mass. We are going to accept any type of


donations, small or big. We will also accept hard money (limited to $2,500 by individual). We

will also look at PACs for monetary donations. PAC stands for Political Action Committee and

they are groups that either support a candidate or are against them. However, we will only look

at PACs that our campaign may potentially benefit from such as KidsPAC and Human Right

Campaign. These interests groups typically give more than individual monetary support because

they are also fighting for the cause and if the candidate wins, then the cause is carried on and is

adopted. 527 groups and 501 groups will also serve as another source of donation. In addition,

our presidential candidate, Jarvis Fosberg, is very wealthy so he will also pitch in his own

contributions when our fundraising ideas fail and there is a lack of support. (Edwards III,

There are several factors that must be considered when raising funds for the president

campaign. The first deals with receiving public funds for the presidential campaign is federal

government funds to pay for valid expenses of our campaign in both primary and general

election. To qualify for public funding, candidates must agree to limit campaign spending to a

specific amount and must meet other requirements. The second has to do with candidates being

able to receive contributions from individual, but it is limited to $2,500 (hard money limit) to

SUBJECT: The three principles of the F.E.C.A.

We already know that the school issues involving school lunches, increased school activities, and

recycling are important issues we need to improve as soon as possible. These issues have raised

many concerns in the student population lately in the past few years since the establishment of

SECA and we see the necessity of having a solution at any cost. Because these issues need to

addressed as soon as possible, some things need to be taken into consideration before making

any kind of decision. The three principles that the Federal Election Campaign Act created to

make these campaigns fair are a big consideration factor towards decision making.

Public Funding of Presidential Elections

Public funds for the presidential campaign is federal government funds to pay for valid expenses

of our campaign in both primary and general election. To qualify for public funding, candidates

must agree to limit campaign spending to a specific amount and must meet other requirements.


Limitations on the Amounts Presidential and Congressional Candidates May Receive from

Contributions

Candidates are able to receive contributions from individuals, but are limited to $2,500 (hard

money limit) received from PACs.

With the three principles of the F.E.C.A. in mind, you can now carry out decisions legally and

can get going with reforms to make this school (country) a better place to be at for our students.

Step Three - The Media Advisor (Rita Valdez)

Being a media advisor means not really focusing on the tools, but on what tools can

achieve to get our message across, (computerweekly.com). In order to be a successful media

advisor, technology must be involved in the campaign. Technology can range from television, to

radio, to newspapers, to magazines, and the internet. Popular communication means everything

because the media advisor releases the main concerns of the public to the public. The goal for


media advisors is to influence the voters to vote for the candidate they are working for. The

advisor must make the candidate seem as appealing as possible to the public.

A key issue in the next election that our party will address deals with how school lunches

should have more variety, especially for the hardworking students of SECA. I plan to use

television as a source to address the issue of lunches in school because a majority of the

population watch television and it allows the viewers to see their candidates “up close and

personal” (Edwards III, Wattenberg, & Lineberry, Government in America: People, Politics, and

Policy, 2011). I chose to use television because as a media advisor, one must choose the best and

interesting way to get information out; television being one source that a majority of people have

easy access to. Commercials captivate the focus of viewers depending on how they come off. So

the commercial created would start off interesting, by showing weak, hardworking, and hungry

students with disgusting school lunch food. It would open the eyes to caring parents and urge

them to help change this situation. It would put our candidate in a positive light and allow

parents and students to see how sincere our candidate is and prompt them to vote for him as the

new president. Another media source I would use is the internet (Edwards III, Wattenberg, &

Lineberry, Government in America: People, Politics, and Policy, 2011). A Twitter account

would be a good site since the school lunches involve teenagers, Twitter is a social network most

teenagers use. It would post the concerns and ideas about school lunches and ways to make

changes possible. It is a way for many students to directly get concerns from the party and

perhaps persuade them to act upon issues. Twitter is also a quick and easy way to get responses

from the students and can also be used to promote our policies nationwide. If more people know

of the issues then more people can begin to work to gain more supporters. With more


recognition, our presidential candidate can have a better chance at winning the election. Another

way our candidate will gain more recognition among voters through television will be, what is

called, the “30 second fame.” The “30 second fame” is when the media, such as news channels,

show a 30 second clip reporting on the presidential candidate.There are more issues this party

will focus on and as the media adviser, I will focus on using advertisements and Twitter to

educate people of the issues this school is having. Our presidential candidate will participate in

the television ads and there will be some conferences held through Twitter in order for the

students to have closer connection to our candidate. (Edwards III, Wattenberg, & Lineberry,

Step Four - Pollster (Dario Morris)

As a pollster, my job was simply conducting an opinion poll of a selected few as a

representative to the whole population of our school. First, I conducted a poll to see where a

majority of everyone’s focus was at and how what issues were most pressing. After I saw where

a majority of the issues were, I created some follow up questions. The questions that were asked

as follow up questions were based upon the reactions that we received from a majority of the

people we interviewed in the preliminary polling and also from our political agenda which

addressed such topics as school lunches, school activities, and recycling. A main problem I had

with conducting the polls came with from the freshmen through juniors who really became

annoyed by people asking so many questions, so it was difficult to find people who would want

to cooperate. To make it easier on everyone I created a list of issues that I’ve heard others talk

about and allowed the people who I interviewed to determine which was the most important. As

for the follow up questions I created two separate lists of questions based on the stuff that was


promised in our agenda. (Edwards III, Wattenberg, & Lineberry, Government in America:
