Create a Ustream Account, Login & Stream Hints & Tips

These instructions will help you set up a Ustream account and log into Ustream so you can start

following channels (this means that this channel will show up on your Dashboard, either if they are

streaming live or you want to watch a pre-recorded show – this will become clearer later on).

Although you can use your existing account(s) to log into Ustream (if you already have an account),

otherwise the following information may help you to create a Ustream account.

1. Go to http://www.ustream.tv/ and you will be brought to the following screen

2. Click on the Sign Up link (if you don’t already have a Ustream account)

3. The following window will pop up and you can either select to log in using your existing

Facebook account or to create an account without Facebook. We’ll create a new account

without Facebook here:

4. A window will pop up asking you to sign up. Enter your details as follows:

1. Your email address

2. Your UserName (this will be your stream name and can be anything you

want – if available)

3. Enter a password (this will have to be at least 7 characters long and must

include at least 1 UPPERCASE alpha, 1 NUMERICAL eg: Abcdef1)

4. Re-enter your password

5. Make sure you TICK the box next to “I agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy

Policy

6. Now click the blue SIGN UP button

5. You will now be asked to confirm your email. Click the blue GET STARTED button

6. You will be taken to the following page. Click on the drop-down arrow and select

DASHBOARD

7. This is where you can update your profile, change your account settings, create a channel

and find friends’ channels

8. You can enter SCRAPBOOK into the search box and search for all channels devoted to

scrapbooking. Just play around and enjoy!

Once you start following a few channels you can go to your dashboard (refer to Step 6 on page 2)

and on the left of your screen you will see a mini menu where you can “Find Shows to Watch”

9. Click on Find Shows to Watch and you’ll see a list of recordings that your favourite

broadcasters have recorded. Please note I have set up this account as a test account to show

you how to create a Ustream Account so I haven’t joined any crowds as yet – only my main

Ustream account (this is what you’ll see here – my other account’s recorded streams)

You can click on any of the recorded streams to watch any time

Now let’s talk about the CHAT feature.

To the right of the video screen you will see a box with a heading labelled “Chat”. Below that is the

chat window where you will see that I have explained a bit about how the chat works.

Under the typed messages you will see a heading labelled “Audience” and under that is a cursor.

This is where you type your chat message prior to pressing ENTER on your keyboard or clicking

“SEND” with your mouse.

Points to remember:

Ustream will kick you out of the stream if you “spam” the chat – ie: type in too many messages in a

very short space of time and you will not be able to re-enter the stream for 15 minutes.

To ask a question directed to the broadcaster (person who is streaming) or to get the broadcaster’s

attention in the chat type q: then your question – eg:

q: What is your name

To clap in chat type (clap)

To smile in chat type :)

To frown :(

A heart is represented by <3

There are other emoticons but I don’t usually use any more than the above

Always log off before you close out of Ustream.

Now let’s talk about being a broadcaster and tweeking your settings:

1. Login to Ustream

2. Go to your “Dashboard”

Enabling Chat:

1. Click on “Channel” in the side bar on left

2. Click on “Chat”

3. Ensure you “tick” the box next to “Display Chat”

4. At this point, ensure you click “Save”

5. Now while you’re still in the “Channel” area you can “Add as moderator”. Click in the box

just above “Add as moderator” and start typing the username of the person you want to add

as moderator and you will see a list of people appear below, select the person you want to

add as a moderator, then click “Add as moderator”

6. Your “moderator” will now appear in your list of moderators box

7. Don’t forget to click “SAVE”. You will see a messaging saying your changes will take affect in

around 10 minutes, so don’t panic if it doesn’t do it automatically!

Going Live!

1. Log in to Ustream using your username & password

2. Click on the blue GO LIVE button

3. Wait until Ustream discovers your camera and you will see what your camera is picking up.

Don’t panic – you’re not live yet LOL, but you are “connected”

4. Before you click on the green START BROADCAST button, you might want to ensure you have

the desired webcam and microphone set up.

You can see just below the green START BROADCAST and START RECORD buttons the “Video

Source” and the “Audio Source”.

5. Select your preferred video source from the drop-down menu (only compatible video

sources will appear here)

6. Ensure you have ticked the boxes next to “Video Broadcast” and “Audio Broadcast”

7. Before you start broadcasting you should pop out your chat box so that you can see what

everyone’s talking about and if there are any questions you need to answer. So click on the

“Pop out chat” link

8. You will need to log into chat – when you type something and press SEND or ENTER on your

keyboard the following screen will appear:

9. Enter your Ustream username and password and click LOGIN

10. The following window will appear:

11. Now you have both your “broadcast” window and your “chat” window open, move them

side by side by clicking on the blue bar at the top of each window and position them where

you want them “move the blue bar by left-clicking and dragging into position”

12. Now you should be ready, click on the green START BROADCAST button, it will now change

colour to red and you can stop the broadcast any time

13. When you’re ready just click START RECORD and you’re now broadcasting live AND

recording!

14. When you’re ready to stop the recording of your stream, click on the STOP RECORD button.

You will then be prompted to save or delete your recording.

15. If you’re saving your recording, you will need to give your recording a title, description and

tags

16. Type in the details and click SAVE

17. Don’t forget to click SAVE to save your recording.

18. Now click CLOSE

19. You can now stop your broadcast by clicking on the STOP BROADCAST button

20. Finally, click the red X to close the broadcast window

NOTE: Do NOT go to your channel page during a broadcast unless you MUTE the sound – you’ll have

an echo otherwise.
