OBN Foundation’s Apprenticeship Program will be be a post-release apprenticeship program with one of it’s small businessincubator graduates, Prison Break Brewery. It will be a "earn &learn" model which means the apprentices will be paid a salarywhile going to school for free and attending on-the-job training ata real brewery with experienced mentors.

It will consist of a 6-8 week online instructional certified curriculumwith San Diego State University.

In addition to the educational portion of this program, theapprentices will receive 6 months of paid on-the-job training withboth Prison Break Brewery & Black Market Brewing.

After successful completion, each apprentice will be offered full-time employment opportunities with Prison Break Brewery, BlackMarket Brewing and other breweries located throughout the Stateof California.

The educational part of the Apprenticeship Program will be provided by San DiegoState University under their Professional Craft Beer curriculum.

Apprentices will be full time students and receive a certification under this programthat will allow them to apply for other employment opportunities within the craftbeer industry as well as provide them the ability to earn higher wages. All classes willbe given online.

Launched in the fall of 2013 in response to the city's burgeoning craft beer industry,San Diego State University's Professional Certificate in the Business of CraftBeer program reflects the explosive growth of the craft beer industry in San Diego —which ranks in the top 10 in the U.S. The program provides hands-on training forthose looking to enter or already working in the brewing industry on the businessside, rather than the brewing side of operations. This includes creating passionatelyknowledgeable management and staff in the hospitality industry to give customers afirst-class experience.

Apprentices will receive mentorship by experiencedpeople in the craft beer industry. Each apprentice willbe provided on-the-job training from experiencedemployees from both Prison Break Brewery and theirpartner, Black Market Brewing.

Each apprentice will be paid and work from 30-40hours a week at a craft beer brewery for 6 months.

Prison Break Brewery (PBB) is a social enterprise craft beer company that makes great tasting prison themed craft beer.

In addition to making great tasting beer, PBB provides those with a criminal past Second Chances through educational programs and employment opportunities.

PBB has made a public declaration to provide a percentage of their profits to organization like Angel Tree which provides support services to woman and children of men who are incarcerated.

Another organization PBB will provide a percentage of their profits is Prison Fellowship which provide support services to both men and woman who are incarcerated.

Founded in 2009, Black Market Brewing Company has focused on producing high-quality, handcrafted craft beer.

Soon after opening, BMB was awarded its first gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival in the Rye Beer category and silver for its Hefeweizen in 2014.

Since then, BMB has won numerous accolades and awards, including winning a gold medal for its New England Style Double IPA in 2018’s Great American Beer Festival.

BMB will provide on-the-job training as well as experienced and qualified mentors to PBB’s apprentices.

The apprentices for this program will receive on-the-job training for the position of Warehouse Manager for Prison Break Brewery. The overall purpose forthis position will be to ensure accuracy, productivity, and quality of all inbound and outbound material at the facility. They shall support a service-orientedwarehouse environment for internal and external customers, striking a balance between control and accommodation. Upholds accurate inventory levelsthrough diligent inventory management, reconciliation, and process improvement. Creates and maintains all department metrics and key performanceindicators. Leads by example and plays an active role in selecting, training and retaining a team of superior performers. Supports the packaging team withmaterials and additional resources, as needed.
