EvaluationAs part of my coursework, It is a requirement to evaluate the different stages for the production of my products including my CD cover(digipak), music video and also my website. In this PowerPoint, I am going to illustrate the different stages I undertook in my coursework including feedback from my intended target audiences and also identifying challenges which I faced with the production.

Q1. In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products

Comparing the music video with that of music videos which share the same genres (Ray J – One wish, R Kelly ft Usher – Same girl) I have identified that they share numerous conventions which makes our music video appear more accurate and realistic such as the mise-en-scene (including props and location) and also they share similar camera angles. The music video uses props similar to that of other professionally produced R&B music videos for example I noticed that a lot of these music videos feature props such as mobile phones which share the same connotations for example the central character speaking down the phone to a girl and this is the case in the above listed videos.Furthermore the music videos seem to share similar settings/locations which is another convention of mise-en-scene and evidentially another convention of the R&B genre; the videos seems to be located in a middle class setting which reflects the nature of the video and also reflects on the target audience; furthermore, this is an effective method of promoting the video as it is more likely to appeal seeing as this is the lifestyle many fans dream of. Furthermore, these videos usually share the setting of a bedroom which connotes of a ‘intimate/personal’ location which couples share and this also reflects the nature of the music video.

Also these music videos use numerous camera angles which are used to reflect ‘emotions’ of characters etc. •The close up was used in a similar way in all the music videos ‘central characters on the phone’ which Is usually used to reflect and identify the facial expressions of the characters•The long shot is also used in a similar way in the music videos and this is used to establish settings.

Q2: How effective is the combination of your main product (music video) and ancillary texts (the website & digipak)?

•What I particularly find effective with the main product and the ancillary texts is that it is not difficult for an individual to know that the products go together as I have specifically decided to use the same features within the products for example I used screen shots of the scenes in the video to include on the CD cover and also the website.

Using websites conventions from artists of the same genre such as Ne-Yo, I established that the combination of their products is also effective due to the fact that they use their products to promote on another for example the they use their website to promote their albums etc. I realised that another method in making my products recognisable as one is to promote them as a whole package .

Furthermore, although the quality of my products are not 5 star, I have identified that using the same colour scheme throughout all my products would help in promoting the products as one whole package rather than three separate products as from a combination of the same images and colour scheme, viewers are able to put together that the products go together. This is also a quality I have noticed and used from other world known artists such as Usher.

Clicking this takes visitors of the website to information about the CD.

Q3. What have you learnt from audience feedback?

The music video currently has 190 views and is increasing every week. This suggests that viewers are telling others about the music video which is a positive appeal as this is what would be expected for a music videos produced by international r and b artists such as Trey Songz.

The fact that there has been four ‘likes’ for the video and no dislikes reinforces the fact that the audience really enjoyed the music video.

According to the direct feedback given in response to uploading the music video onto YouTube, given the fact that the video has only been on the internet for a couple of weeks, it appears that the intended target audience (16-24) was reached as the comments are directly related to professional artists with the likes of Usher; as well as the success of the music video being able to reach the intended audiences, comments also suggests that audiences were able to identify the genre of the music video as well which means that with the production of the music video, the use of the mise-en-scene (props, costume etc) was effective.

Q4: How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Creating the Digipak , I used a software Known as Photoshop. This was the easiest product to create as it was fairly straight forward considering the fact that using Photoshop was a quality learnt in AS media. This software allowed me to edit the digipak as it suited me enabling me to upload images, and alter their variance in size, quality, colour etc.

Final CD Cover

Similarly to the CD cover, the creation of my website merely began on the Photoshop software based upon designs from my CD cover and this was that so users are able to distinguish that the products go together. afterwards, I used a software called Dreamweaver. This enabled me in turning my merely designed ‘links’ into actual functional hyperlinks enabling users of my website to navigate between pages.
