1. Woodland Using lots of texture and foliage is a must for woodland-themed weddings, great for a relaxed look. What says woodland more than moss! 2. Pastels Soft pastel tones are perfect for an outdoor wedding. Add a mixture of different blooms for a pretty feminine style. 3. Modern Thinking of bringing the outdoors in or are you hosting your wedding in an industrial space? Why not consider hanging flowers from the ceiling to soften the venue and add a whimsical feel. 4. Rustic Think about the different containers that can be used to house your flowers. Pots wrapped in hessian and customised bark vessels are perfect for a rustic wedding. 5. Glam Mixing gold and bronze tones with a splash of glitter and sequins creates the perfect combination for a glamorous wedding. Partner these with blush-toned roses for that luxe atmosphere. www.lilyandmay.co.uk

We all have that one best friend who’s always at the end of the phone armed with words of wisdom. When it comes to luxury honeymoons, Original Travel like to think they are 34 friends rolled into one! Over the past ten years Original Travel has

helped hundreds of happy couples. Drawn from this wealth of experience, their top ten tips for planning a honeymoon:

perfectlocation

Clayoquot Camp, Canada 08

Page 9: Country House Wedding Venues - 2016 Wedding Trends Guide

1. It’s good to be differentDifference of opinion? Don’t be put off if you and your partner’s honeymoon destination ideas aren’t a matching blueprint. This is totally normal. (I can feel tense shoulders relaxing already.) Original Travel’s honeymoon planners are excellent mediators; we can piece together the most original of itineraries that swing between the wild outdoors one day and deep relaxation the next. Phew!

2. Set the pace‘Marriage is the beginning of a lifelong adventure’. Excuse the cliché but remember that a honeymoon isn’t a race. You may be spending up to three or more weeks away but too many transfers and internal flights can be daunting. Save the hightailing destination hopping for future trips. Two or three destinations will be plenty.

3. Budget firstBefore you start replaying images of a private island reached only by super yacht, complete with resident harpist and a treetop canopy suite, hit the pause button. Try and lock down a honeymoon budget. This will really help manage expectations, and we won’t leave you short on inspiration.

4. Honeymoon VIPIt might seem like an obvious thing to do, but don’t forget to tell whoever plans your honeymoon that it is just that. The team have excellent connections around the world to ensure you get the upgrades you deserve. The Original Travel honeymoon gift list is also an excellent way of adding special activities to your trip.

5. Don’t rush!Romantic visions of being swept away to the airport before your feet can touch the ground? In reality you will be 100% more exhausted than you expected. Get some rest, even if it’s just a day, before heading off on honeymoon.

6. Booking business class……isn’t a necessity if your budget has reached its peak. Memories of vast leg room will vanish far more quickly than those extra nights of blissful sundowners.

7. Pack before the weddingGirls, I think we’ll have this covered. However, a gentle reminder to those husbands-to-be might be needed. Grooms: you’ve been warned.

8. Adventure to the (relative) unknownGo somewhere completely new to both of you and discover it together.

9. Recharge, discover, restThe secret formula. Regain your energy post-wedding, but don’t forget a few days’ R&R at the end of the honeymoon too. You’ll want to delay the return to reality for as long as possible! Leaving room for the juicy bit in the middle…

10. A luxury crescendoIf you’re budget-savvy, save the best accommodation until last; the other way round and you’ll always be harking back to day one.

A menu speaks a thousand words in our eyes, and what better way to

share with guests your favourite travel experiences as a couple than through

your food choices! Reinvented classics such as ‘Hot smoked fillet of salmon

with a spiced cauliflower purée, fennel, pickled radish and cucumber slaw’ work well to start, and fun, fruity

options like ‘Pineapple carpaccio with chilli and lime served with lemon

sorbet’ are a fantastic way to conclude your meal.

Get set to see plenty of exciting food and drink trends cropping up on wedding menus in 2016.

Below are a few of our highlights:

1. fusionfood

2016

The vibrant colours and wonderful fragrances of an Eastern-influenced

menu would make for an enticing evening food offering. With an

abundance of flavours to choose from, we’d opt for a Moroccan-inspired dish of ‘Spicy lamb with minted

couscous, warm pitta bread and garlic lime yoghurt’ carved to order

and devoured immediately.

2. eastmeetswest

experience

10

WEDDING MENU

Page 11: Country House Wedding Venues - 2016 Wedding Trends Guide

3. summercanapés

7. desserts

There’s an abundance of sumptuous ingredients in season during June, July and August: in particular salmon, sea bass, wild mushrooms and artichokes. We’re picturing ‘Applewood smoked salmon with pickled radish and watercress canapés’ served out on the lawn, then tucking into warm ‘Wild mushroom and leek tartlets with truffle oil and fine chives’, all served alongside the perfect summer cocktail.

5. supersofts

6. starterandmain course

4. seriouscocktailsChampagne cocktails for weddings will remain a favourite, but this year we’ll be seeing the emergence of some seriously stylish options – think the definitive ‘Gin martini’, or a smoky version with Scotch whisky. However, our favourite would be a ‘Fig and bourbon fizz’ with mint, brown sugar and ginger ale, served perfectly chilled.

Savoury flavours will feature as a key trend for drinks too – rosemary,

sage or even jalapeño! We’d pick fresh ‘Lavender lemonade’ as a

non-alcoholic alternative for guests, alongside ‘help-yourself’

fruit infusions.

Wedding menus will consist of lighter fish dish starters followed by meaty mains. Our choice would be ‘Seared sea bass with a Cornish crab crust, vine tomato and basil fondue’ and ‘Beef two ways – Scotch blade and fillet, potato dauphinoise, butternut squash purée, crisp horseradish’ as our ultimate foodie highlights.

Wedding Menu

There’s never a time that chocolate won’t be a popular option, but in 2016 we’ll see the addition of innovative ingredients and textures as well as exciting ways of serving these. We’d pick a ‘Dark chocolate tart and cherry sorbet on chocolate soil with a pecan salted crumb’ served to tables, or instead ditch the formalities and include a dessert station or canapés – to include mini ‘Chocolate cups of praline panna cotta with blackberries’.

2016 WEDDING TRENDS 11

If it’s a pretty and elegant colour palette you’re looking for, opt for colours such as rose quartz, serenity sky blue or lilac grey. Blush pink and grey reigned in 2015. While these colours continue to be popular, new tone trends are emerging for 2016. Great for barn venues, minimalist settings or any hotel or manor house with a romantic vibe.

Snorkel blue is a great colour to create the look of modern charm. The brightness in its tone will add a touch of energy and excitement to your day, while still giving off an elegant and sophisticated vibe. What’s more, it’s suited to all venues, from castles to rustic barns.

If you’re opting for a rustic or country-inspired celebration in one of our barns or country houses, don’t forget to weave in this year’s earthy shade of iced coffee. The neutral shade will complement greens, whites and even snorkel blue, adding a natural feel to your wedding day.

Coral and fuchsia pink are classic summer colours. But, if you love your summer brights, opt for a buttercup and fiesta red colour palette instead. Ideal for couples looking for something different, and outdoor or overseas celebrations, these colours evoke pure happiness.

Forget dressing in all white. Pastel, watercolour-inspired gowns are in for 2016.Think rose quartz or serenity sky blue to complement your chic, on-trend colour palette.

Femininity needn’t be expressed with the soft colours of pink, blue and lilac. Peach is another fantastic option for those looking to create a more vibrant and fun atmosphere. Add lots of fun touches such as peach ribbon streamers and chair ties, or even a pair of cheeky peach shoes to complete the look.

Combine sophistication with a touch of fun by pairing deep snorkel blue with a playful peach tone. This colour palette looks great in your wedding flowers, on your wedding table and contrasted throughout your wedding décor with cute pom-poms or paper lanterns.

For beach bliss, combine the pretty tone of limpet shell with the natural hue of iced coffee to resemble sea and the surrounding land. Style with natural materials, such as shells, and don’t be afraid to incorporate the trend of watercolour. Tranquil and dreamy, this colour scheme is perfect for beach weddings, waterside weddings and celebrations outside in a garden or marquee.

If it’s the popular boho look you’re after, anything floral is a must. Our favourite floral DIY has to be this stylish flower chandelier.

Ideal for all venue types, you have the option of going big, with one iconic piece, or hanging multiple chandeliers around the room – just like you would with paper lanterns. Essentials for this DIY include flowers, an embroidery hoop, ribbon and a glue gun. Pretty lace also finishes off the look.

Which colour will be trending in

2016? Blush for brides and grey, silver, charcoal and ombré for

bridesmaids will be among the most popular shades

in 2016. The “industrial glam” trend shows no signs of slowing down in 2016 as platinum grey continues to be a firm favourite with

brides and their maids. This beautiful silvery

tone is easy to wear and looks amazing with pastel

flowers.

Darker tones like charcoal or pewter are also becoming popular

for 2016 weddings. Team them with bright flowers

or a bold lip for a pop of colour!

WEDDING AT MYTHE BARN

Stylish

Having attended over 30 weddings

together, during the ten years they’d

been together, Emma and Lee

wanted a wedding venue that was

different from all the rest. A venue

that ‘had a real wow factor…

24

Page 25: Country House Wedding Venues - 2016 Wedding Trends Guide

After stumbling across Mythe Barn, in Warwickshire, Emma and Lee were won over. They knew their guests would have an amazing time at the venue, and it would help them leave

that lasting impression of their day. The staff were another huge factor in choosing Mythe Barn. The couple knew they’d ensure everything ran smoothly and that everyone enjoyed an unforgettable day.

GATSBY GLAMOUR Another selling point of the Warwickshire barn was its unique style. Emma and Lee wanted to channel the 1920s vintage look on their wedding day, and the venue’s style and décor was in keeping with their theme. Emma added a few extra wedding touches with candelabra centrepieces, accentuated with a pretty flower arrangement. An impressive arrangement was also made for the top table – wowing the pair’s wedding guests. “While I loved our centrepieces, I probably would have made them bigger with hindsight,” says Emma. “I recently went to a wedding where a bigger candelabra was used with big church candles and, they looked stunning,” she explains.

STATEMENT STYLE With a strong wedding theme in mind, Emma made sure to dress just right for the day. While her elegant, tight-fitting fishtail gown was relatively simple, she went all out with her floral headpiece. “For me it was all about my headwear. I wanted to make a statement,” explains Emma. Lee looked equally stylish in a one-off navy blue suit that cost almost as much as Emma’s dress!

SIMPLY PERFECT Getting ready on the morning of the wedding was easy. Emma took advantage of Mythe Barn’s facilities and got ready on location with her four bridesmaids. “I arrived early and took full advantage of what the barn had to offer,” laughs Emma. It wasn’t just the facilities that impressed the couple though; the wedding food was stunning too. “We had a selection of canapés that included goats’ cheese mousse and Parmesan crisp, and deep-fried pork belly,” says Emma. “This was followed by a three-course meal with a starter of pork and apple spring roll, roast rump of English lamb main and dessert of panna cotta and balsamic marinated strawberries.”

TRUE PERFORMERS With the hard bit of the day over, and guests well and truly satisfied after their fine feast, the evening celebrations could commence. The couple chose Bruno Mars’ Uptown Funk for their first dance – which offered a few surprises to their guests. “The first dance was a group dance with all ushers and bridesmaids. It was awesome!” smiles Emma. “Our best man had struggled with nerves during his speech and contemplated doing a runner halfway through. Thankfully this didn’t happen and he even managed to hang around for the first dance. It was perfect.”
