SOS – Save Our Supply – High School Scholarship Assistance Program

Eligibility Criteria: • Applicant must be a high school senior. • Applicant does not have to be a blood donor, but blood donor applicants, or applicants that recruit volunteer blood

donors will be given special consideration. • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident • Applicant’s high school must sponsor one blood drive with CBC during the school year (June, 2010 through May,

2011). • Applicant must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA or higher • Applicant must submit a letter of recommendation from a blood drive faculty member, teacher, or principal. • Applicant must include an official copy of the high school transcript including first semester senior grades. • Applicants must submit their Donor Recruitment Campaign: “As a blood-drive chairperson, your goal is to en-

courage your student body to donate blood for your annual high school blood drive. You are to create a campaign described in 300 to 500 words, and include at least 3 support materials, one of which could be an educational video that communicates why blood donation is important and what donors should do prior to the blood drive to help ensure a successful donation.”

• Applicant must complete and return enclosed application form. Applications can be downloaded on CBC’s website – www.givingblood.org

Deadline: • Application must be post marked no later than April 22, 2011 Additional Information: • All scholarship recipients will be notified in May, 2011. The winners will be posted online at:

at an accredited college or university. • Selection based upon: academic achievement, community and school service, and recommendations. Award: One $350 scholarship. _____ Vera DoLean Ginn Scholarship Application deadline: March 17, 2011 • A Shelby County resident pursuing a career in elementary education. A career in secondary education does not

qualify. • Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or greater. • Selection based upon: intent to pursue the field of elementary education, financial need, academic ability, commu-

nity and school service, recommendations.
