Match Report;

Wollongong Miners crush Perth

Cougars with 38-10 win

Wollongong,NSW- This was a tale of two teams going in

opposite directions. Wollongong have crashed back into

the play off hunt on the back of 3 straight wins whilst

Perth continue to fall further behind after losing 2 of

their last 3.

Wollongong got on the front foot from the beginning.

Perth have struggled to stop the run all year long and

today was no different. A quick 6 play drive featured a

couple of long runs and then Anthony Gonzales was on the

end of a 44 yard pass for the score. Perth bounced back

with their own drive but it stalled in the red zone and

Keiron Geia had to kick a field goal.

Perth needed a stop but the Miners again exploited the

run game and then when needed looked to the likes of

slot receivers Josh Boyce and Andrew Rogers. Yet the

score came from Nathan Jacks who beat out Chris Grey in

the end zone. The Miners then extended the lead to 17-3

and seemed to be cruising to victory. Then again they

too were struggling on defense. Lance Drayton rolled to

his right and after looking inside to Josh Piatek he

found Jarrod Crawford working his way open down the

right for the score.

Coming out for the second half the game was still very

much in the balance. But Drayton did not have a happy

day. He threw his second pick right off the bat and

Davis took just 6 plays to put Boyce away in the corner.

Another pick and then another long drive was finished

off by Shane Walsh who walked in on a toss sweep to the

right. The final score again went to Boyce in the corner

as Perth further fell into disarray and the big

Wollongong crowd urged their team on. The 38-10 result

was damming and it will be tough for Perth to rebound.

Wollongong are starting to come good and with Davis

healthy who knows just how far they will go.
